Top Five (Trailer)
Written, directed and… well… that’s enough extra duty for a man in his own movie, right? Chris Rock stars in “Top Five” – his story of a comedian going for acceptance as a serious comedian after years of success as a mainstream actor. All-star cast includes Rosario Dawson, Tracy Morgan, Kevin Hart, Whoopi Goldberg, Michael Che, and Cedric The Entertainer. Scored by Questlove (of The Roots). Executive produced by Jay Z and Kanye West.
Comedy: It’s The Fallon Family vs. The Roots On ‘Tonight Show Family Feud’ (Video)
Any and everybody has probably had a good belly laugh watching Steve Harvey host the long-running syndicated game show Family Feud. The clips on the Internet alone crack me up every time I see them. Well, as Jimmy Fallon’s guest on The Tonight Show, Harvey hosts a mini-version of the game with Fallon heading one fam against Questlove and his Roots crew. And comedy ensues!
Of course, performers with a natural silly gene will really go for the funny; but some go overboard and mess it up. Not this though. Hilarious stuff. Never thought ‘ding dong’ could be so funny. C’mon, it’s late night TV… so they could go there a bit. Watch this bit (above).

Black Thought & Questlove of The legendary Roots crew stopped by the ‘Breakfast Club’ to speak upon a variety of topics while promoting their new album “…and then you shoot your cousin.”  This is one of those interviews where the answers were more interesting than the actual questions asked. Questlove & Black Thought managed to touch upon their history & the new album while provide their perspective on contemporary soul & rap music. The Roots also spoke about the sometimes uneasiness when meeting their idols, stressed the importance of not having ‘Yes Men’ in their camp, the social significance & challenges of bringing back ‘Soul Train’, & more.

Events: The 2013 ‘A3C Festival’ Blasts Off in Atlanta This Week!
A3C, the largest Hip-Hop festival in the United States, is this week (starting Wednesday, October 2nd)! That’s a reminder for the two or three of you who are not already amped about it. Have you got your passes yet? If not, a word… HURRY (and get the all-access, five-day pass…best value)!
Have you SEEN the lineup of events, appearances, and happenings for this year’s A3C? I mean, besides the dopeness that will be the True School Cypher hosted by our own JayForce & Fort Knox (see earlier post), A3C encompasses a spectrum of entertainment and cultural experiences – education, film, style, pro-audio, art, technology, gaming, sports, break-dance and more.
The lineup? Oh, I dunno… just the likes of Ghostface Killah, Questlove, Bun B, Too Short, ScHoolboy Q, A$AP Ferg, Talib Kweli, Meek Mill, DJ Premier, 9th Wonder, Young Guru… (more). Man, enough said. We’ll see you there; in person if you’re coming to the True School Cypher or any number of events from Wednesday through Sunday.
Vinyl Destination | Ep. 19: Vancouver, Canada… That’s A Wrap… Season Finale With The Magnificent DJ Jazzy Jeff (Video)
Man. Even with your bros, even rolling in a luxury tour bus… the road can get old. And too long a trip across the Canadian outback, it can get COLD! Same crappy food… crazy sound setups… gotta ask why a deejay does what he does sometimes. Then, take another look… at the beauty everywhere. The people partying everywhere. It is what Jazzy Jeff, Skillz and the crew were meant to do. Wrapping Canada in Vancouver, with quick stop in Seattle to get the mixer fixed… then a New Year’s Eve extravaganza featuring a drum and DJ set (none other than fellow Philly native Questlove on the drums). THAT’s a season finale! Watch.

Black Thought Speaks On Acting Career, Lifestyle Changes, & Working On A Blues Album (Video)
It’s rather rare to catch Black Thought aka Mr. Tariq Trotter doing solo interviews. The talented Mr. Trotter is visually known as the lyrical frontman for the Legendary Roots Crew but compared to Questlove’s omnipresence in the media you would almost assume Tariq was nothing short of a hermit. It’s not everyday you get some interviews where he speaks on upcoming solo projects & what’s going on with his life. Check out the interview with Uber Urban as they catch up with Tariq as he speaks on doing a hip hop blues album, lifestyle changes, & more.

Comedy: Love & Hip Hop Atlanta Parody (Video)
This is the most I’ve watched of that minstrel television show Love & Hip Hop Atlanta. I just flat out refuse to watch that garbage show, but I have to agree with The Roots’ Questlove who mentioned via his twitter page that it’s safe to assume this comedic spoof is what the show is really all about. Check out this comedic spoof of the TV show Love & Hip Hop Atlanta starring Miguel Nunez, Verne “Mini Me” Troyer, Lunell, Essence Atkins, Buck Wild, Reginald “Bra Man” Ballard & many more directed by Devin Hampton.

Naughty By Nature: Who’s Fault Was It On The Tour? (Video)
“While most of the shows that Naughty By Nature perform are usually packed to the ceiling. Every now and then, a promoter falls short and fails to bring a good crowd. Even after 20 years of performing, they still argue about ways to make the show tighter and who’s at fault when things go wrong. Backstage after a show, VinRock, Trigger Treach and DJ KayGee sit back and discuss what was wrong with that nights show.” – Naughty118
DJ Premier – Black Fist Friday Mix on Hot 97 NYC (2/17/12)
I saw massive amounts of people tweeting about DJ Premier rocking on Hot 97 in NYC at noon for their Black Fist Friday series in celebration of Black History month. At the time I wasn’t in a position to listen in live & as a matter of fact I still haven’t gotten around to fully listening to the mix that Questlove did in honor of J Dilla last week, but I’ll get to that eventually this weekend. After a few hours I noticed DJPremierBlog had it up on Primo’s site as well as MissInfo who works at the station. Had to download it & peep it once I had time like now…. I like how DJ Premier started things off with Jeru Tha Damaja’s underground classic “Frustrated N*gga”. Dopeness…

Classic Clips: The Roots and A Tribe Called Quest Freestyle
Illadeph meets QB in this freestyle featuring Rahzel on the beat, with Black Thought, Consequence and Phife Dawg on the mics. As usual, Rahzel kills the beatbox while Ali Shaheed Muhammed and Questlove chill and groove to the beat. Would’ve been nice to hear what Q-Tip had to say, though. Guess time was up on Lorna’s Corner.

The Roots & Jimmy Fallon continue to broadcast from Indianapolis during the Super Bowl XLVI festivities & many stellar guests have been stopping by. The ‘Doggfather’, Snoop D.O. Black Thought Speaks on his past Selling Drugs & Being Kicked Out Of School (Video)
Black Thought spoke on some of the rough times in his life from a brief period selling drugs in Philly & being kicked out of school. Knowing Tariq Trotter he’s never been one of those types of cats to glorify that part of his past & even admits he wasn’t the most successful in that business. Black Thought also explains why some people assumed he was also from Detroit at one time. More video below from the interview with Questlove & Black Thought under the hood as they promote the new album ‘unDun’ which is available now…..
