Talib Kweli Speaks On His Times Meeting President Obama, Relationships With Other Artists And Much More (Video)
Tell the truth, we ‘never thought that Hip-Hop would take it this far’…
According to Talib Kweli (above), President Obama got his favorite artists together in a room to share ideas on and declare his desire for criminal justice reform to be part of his administration’s legacy… and ask for their inputs & help. Talk about a work-play moment! Imagine a concert featuring Talib, A$AP Rocky, J. Cole, Busta Rhymes, Pusha T and others? Why not? It’s the White House! But nah, country first. Still sounds like a cool meet-up.
(The story about his Grandma though… wow!)
Kweli also speaks on his next project (with Styles P), Yasiin Bey, the experience of working with Q-Tip and getting on the A Tribe Called Quest album, Jay Electronica and more. DOPE interview!
Erykah Badu – “Hello” feat. Andre 3000
The heat! Erykah and he ex, Andre 3K, can still bring it on a track. Exhibit A: “Hello” is embedded below. Tried to find an active link to the “But You Caint Use My Phone” mixtape on which this appears; but it has been snatched from EVERYWHERE… including iTunes for some reason. Keep an eye/ear open for it though. Worth it.
(Another ex, the “Exhibit C” emcee Jay Electronica, also features on the mixtape. Seems like they all remain cool. Good.)
PRhyme Speaks On Hip-Hop, Battle Rap, Favorite Album Tracks And More (Video)
Final (Part 3) in the HardKnockTV interview series with PRhyme (DJ Premier x Royce da 5’9). Nick Huff Barili getting insight from Royce on life changes he has gone through.
“I felt like there was a dark cloud over my head for a long time. So when I was rapping about death, I was just rhyming about things that were imminent. Stuff that was happening around that time, it was just a dark time for me.”
– Royce da 5’9
Now sober two years, he is grateful for having made it through that period alive and without major jail time. Offering thoughts on where Hip-Hop should be going, Preemo and Royce talk about expectations for the greats. Royce also declared a urge to step into the [Battle Rap] arena and wrap with their favorite tracks on the “PRhyme” album (out now) – including tracks with Jay Electronica and Common.
DJ Premier And Royce da 5’9 Talk About The Formation Of PRhyme, The Album, Guru (RIP), Eminem And More (Video)
Royce da 5’9 and Preemo, see, formed this new duo PRhyme and are set to drop a self-titled debut on December 9, 2014. Besides themselves, the plate will be loaded with goodness from Ab-Soul, Mac Miller, Jay Electronica, ScHoolboy Q, Killer Mike and Slaughterhouse. in a word: Damn! But before all that, hear the two talk about the formation of PRhyme, the LP, and much much more.
DJ Semi x Nas – “Reanimated” (Mixtape)
Producer/DJ Semi offers us his mixtape, hosted by Nas, entitled “Reanimated.” Semi reworks the QBoro emcee’s emceeing with new production, guest features, and his turntablism. Guest vocals dropped onto the plate come from the likes of Jay Z, B.I.G., Eminem, J. Cole, Jay Electronica, and Big Punisher. Check it out for the FREE here. Then check after the jump for words from the DJ.

Comedy: Hitler Responds To Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Control’ Verse (Video)
The chatter surrounding Kendrick Lamar’s verse on Big Sean’s “Control” record with Jay Electronica has been slowing but the responses are just coming in. Ironically Hitler was the first to vent his frustration with many rapper’s delays in striking back back at the self-proclaimed new King Of NY. Hilarious.
Just Blaze Speaks On The Rampant Overreaction To Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Control’ Verse By Other Artists (Video)
I agree with Just Blaze’s assessment of what Kendrick Lamar was doing with his highly controversial verse on the ‘Control’ record with Big Sean & Jay Electronica. Great emcees are supposed to challenge other emcees to be better but it clearly wasn’t a diss record.
Yasiin Bey – “Re:Definition” (Mixtape) By DJ Dub
Anyone who knows me is well aware that one of my favorite hip hop artists is the emcee formerly known as Mos Def. Looks like I’m not the only one as DJ Dub links with FreeOnsmash to deliver this brand new Yasiin Bey – “ReDefinition” mixtape. Listen, download & check out the tracklisting plus additional information below….
“Some artists in the hip-hop genre are so confident in their natural talent, that they can do whatever they please on the mic. The Mighty Mos Def, I’m sorry, Yasiin Bey is one of those people. Being able to flex his acting chops, serve as a conduit for the spirit of Ali by way of Louis Vuitton and not miss a beat on the microphone, is an amazing feat by any standard. DJ Dub brings portions of his vast catalog to life mixing classics, b-sides and his infamous Dub mixes to create a listening experience that should not be missed. Consider Re:DEFinition as your official introduction to the artist known as Yasiin Bey.”

Styles P – “GhostBlaze” (Exhibit A Freestyle)
About a month or so back Styles P dropped this freestyle on twitter over Jay Electronica’s “Exhibit A” track produced by Just Blaze. Now here comes the visuals to this mixtape jawn. Styles P also dropped another freestyle video that just hit the web a few days ago as that I put after the jump! That’s wasup! SP The Ghost! DEEEEEE BLOCK!!
Styles P – “Ghostblaze”
Styles P dropped this little gem as an appetizer to his upcoming collaborative track with Just Blaze. To get the fans ready for it, SP the Ghost rocks over the Jay Electronica “Exhibit A” track that Just Blaze crafted & creates his own “Exhibit G” if you will. The “G” is for “Ghost”. Looking forward to hearing the brand new joint that Styles P & Just Blaze have in the works, but this will do for now…
BONUS: STYLES P – FLOAT GOOD (OVER FRANK OCEAN’S – SWIM GOOD)
It’s In The Name with Young Guru (Video)
In part 1 of our interview with Young Guru we talk Roc Nation. First we talk about the creation of Watch The Throne and the part he played, what he worked on with J. Cole, and if Jay Electronica missed his moment.
Ski Beatz: Back To The Future (Video)
“Even the most casual of Hip Hop listeners should be aware of Ski Beatz as, at the very least, the producer of iconic Hip Hop anthems on Jay-Z’s 1996 debut, Reasonable Doubt, and several albums for Camp Lo, having also gone on to produce for Lil Kim, Foxy Brown, Fat Joe and others.
15 years on and the digitally inclined will have caught last year’s excitable wave of activity leading up to the release of the North Carolina hailing producer, DJ and former emcee’s own album, 24 Hour Karate School, released in September 2010, which saw Ski working with a mouthwatering spread of Hip Hop talent established and new, including Curren$y, Smoke DZA, Jean Grae, Jim Jones, Jay Electronica, Joell Ortiz, The Cool Kids, Stalley, Tabi Bonney, Ras Kass, Camp Lo and Wiz Khalifa.
On a mission to find out more about the man behind the beatz, SoulCulture TV sat down with Ski Beatz at Damon Dash’s creative base of operations in New York, DD172, and asked the producer about his beginnings in Hip Hop — as a rapper first.
Watch below as Ski talks us through his journey from the mic to the boards, from getting jaded by the industry and moving home to North Carolina to more recently returning to New York to work with a new breed of emcees and how his initial passion for rapping gives him the edge when producing for top rappers.” – SoulCulture
Erykah Badu Spending Late Hours In The Studio (Video)
Check out this rather random looking video of Erykah Badu in the studio with her new child & a sleeping Jay Electronica…..
Saigon Gets Love On Atlanta’s V-103 With DJ Greg Street (Video)
In preparation for his new album ‘The Greatest Story Never Told’ dropping this Tuesday February 15th, Saigon visits Atlanta for the first time in 5 years & was surprised to discover people in the ‘A’ have love for him. In this recent interview with Greg Street they also discuss the new album, working with Just Blaze, his thoughts on Jay Electronica & run through a few songs.
The Beatz & Lyrics Show – Best Of 2010 Show Winners
So we had a little technical difficulty getting the show started last Saturday on time due to the Atlanta roads & weather condition, but we still managed to finish the show completely on air all the way up until 3:30am. Murphy’s Law is always in effect, but mission accomplished. Just a little later than normal. Check the full list of award winners for ‘The Beatz & Lyrics Show – BEST OF 2010 Awards’. The Podcast Of The Radio Show is up now!
