And the award for the best news segment for a Men’s based hip hop & music blog goes to…… The BLITZ! ****Applause*** . Well we can’t exactly lie & say we watched the Academy Awards. Unlike Sidney Poitier’s historic win back in 1964, there weren’t any significant African American performers nominated for anything so our focus was on the NY Knicks & Miami Heat battling it out down in sun soaked Miami. I agree with Idris Elba that the Oscars aren’t designed for African Americans. J Is For Junkie is a documentary directed by Corey Davis following the lives of people in the streets of Atlanta who are battling crack addiction. From the director:
“Greedmont TV and Creative Control presents J or Junkie. This is my first serious attempt at film making… Growing up I never had a father, because he was out running the streets getting high… Right around the time I was born, the mid 80′s, African-American communities across the country was struck by the crack epidemic. Which robbed us our prideful culture and instantly perverted it into a counter-culture where playgrounds became warzones and families were destroyed.
Growing up, I never really respected junkies… I Just always knew they couldn’t be trusted and they made fucked up decisions… But one day in October, I decided to start filming a group crack addicts in Atlanta who live outside in a small cove behind a Texaco, infamously dubbed as the “Living Room†who share their stories and tell us what it’s like to battle a deadly addiction to crack-cocaine. Their stories would change me forever… [Directed by Corey Davis]”

NFL Draft: Who Ya Got?

After Monday’s BCS National Championship a lot of attention has turned from Auburn’s victory to which one of its star players should be picked first in the NFL draft in April. Both players have until Friday to declare for the draft or return to Auburn for another run at the title. Both are expected to turn pro and are sure to be first round picks. But who should go first?
