The Wind Games 2017: Footage From The Freestyle Finals (Video)
Yeah, yeah, yeah… something about music and dancing is grounds for good competitions. We get it. But focus! This is skydiving, inside, without the plane, or parachute, and better ‘noise’… so when can we get a turn??
Oh, they have a wind tunnel place in Marietta now, too. Indoor skydiving near Cumberland Mall where the new Atlanta Braves stadium will be? Um… excuse please. Y’all can watch this clip above. Someone around here has to get ready to get ready for some indoor skydiving of his own!!
Classic Clips: Stevie Wonder – “Superstition” (Live On ‘Sesame Street’) [Video]
Stevie being the genius that gave us “Superstition” is enough. But seeing him do it live… Okay, that’s incredible; and enough, to be certain. But what will make your Sunday and New Year wonderful is that Stevie Wonder rocked ‘Sesame Street’ live with that joint!
It was like a funk & soul clinic for the kids: Talk about a Children’s Television Workshop!

Cuba’s Skate Culture (Trailer)
When you look at the parallels between cultures, you learn more about yours as well as theirs. Cuba’s burgeoning skate culture came about as the poor people there becoming practioners, doing their thing in the park, with other people there loving and nurturing something of their own right where it is happening, and the outside world recognizing its beauty and coming to partake. Sounds like Hip-Hop’s beginnings, right? Cuba skate culture is evolving in a way we recognize. Salute! They did not ‘invent’ skating per se, but this is their own flavor. Get a taste of Cuba’s skate scene with the trailer above from VICE SPORTS.
Cuba’s skate scene has no funding, very few resources and not much to speak of in terms of a skate park. But despite those obstacles scene is growing, thanks in part to organizations like Cuba Skate and the kids that want to see it furthered. We travelled with Ishod Wair, Lucien Clarke, Andrew Reynolds and special guest photographer Arto Saari to see the best skate spots that the country has to offer and take note of a vibrant underground skate scene on the verge of change.

The School To Prison, Explained (Video)
Damn. Vox breaks it down… how schools are breaking us down. Surely, you’ve heard of the ‘school-to-prison pipeline.’ Officers in classrooms, abundant and extreme zero-tolerance policies, Black students way more likely to be disciplined. In effect, our children are being set up, prepared even, to go to prison at some point. And it all starts in preschool. Watch the clip explaining it above. To get deeper in depth, check out Vox’s full write-up (linked below).
Kicks (Trailer)
“Kicks” earned honors at the 2016 Tribeca Film Festival, and this trailer more than lets us know why. Justin Tipping directs this story of a 15-year-old teen that felt ostracized until he got some cool kicks – Jordans. Then, just as he was finally feeling cool, he gets thrown a beating and the shoes get taken.
Damn.
Then the teen and his friends (one of whom is Biggie’s son) spend the rest of the time trying to get the sneaks back. Director Tipping lifted the themes for this incredible coming-of-age film from his own teen years.
Candid Camera Classic: Ali Meets the Kids (Video)
If it is possible to run across an ‘Ali hater’ in this time of remembrance of The Greatest, SHOW THIS VIDEO!
Muhammad Ali made several appearances on Candid Camera. In 1974 he visited a school and allowed kids to “discover” him. Allen Funt narrates.
The Louisville Lip had no chill…larger than life, but accessible and obviously not shy about cutting up for the kids. Incredible classic TV clip that you may have seen. Worth watching [again].
Smile!
The Rich Kids Of Instagram (Cutting The Edge) [Documentary]
Pictures speak like a thousand words…
Hear what this moving picture is saying. Richie Rich kids putting it all into the lens. A trip to Fiji – just because you’re bored – is rich! And these kids are that bodacious, audacious, in-your-face rich. And they want to share… on Instagram… suckers! Watch and ache with hate, or ‘aw wow’ with amazement (or a little of both, most likely).
Interesting documentary.

Education: Ronald Nelson Chose To Attend The University Of Alabama… Over EVERY Ivy League School (Video)
This hits, and hits ME, hard!
I was once a high school senior with eyes on an Ivy League acceptance prize. I was this close…THIIIISSS (like three out of seven admission board votes) close to getting in, too. However, I fell way below Merit-Based financial aid thresholds; and with out-of-state fees, had I been accepted to Cornell University, I might have been even further in college debt than I am now.
(Spoiler Alert: I’m DEEP in that debt sh!t, yo. So deep that my poor Tuskegee, Alabama accent just went BK NY. Even though I’m 4-6 ’til the deep-six… son! And before you ask, homie, hometown Tuskegee University’s fees got higher than folks on the best Cali Bud just when I was ready to apply there. I definitely would’ve got gaffled with that debt, homie… Oh no, my accent just went ’90s West Coast Hip-Hop… poorly. Haaaaaa!)
But I did not get accepted to the one Ivy League college I pursued, unlike Ronald Nelson – an incoming Freshman to The Capstone (aka The University Of Alabama). Ronald, wise beyond his years, has made a bold decision to turn down offers (and aid) from EVERY Ivy League school that accepted him (ALL of them), and several other colleges, to attend UA.
Ronald did the math, and he kept the faith about his post-graduate future which will be rife with so many options.
“With people being in debt for years and years, it wasn’t a burden that Ronald wanted to take on and it wasn’t a burden that we wanted to deal with for a number of years after undergraduate,” Ronald Sr. said. “We can put that money away and spend it on his medical school, or any other graduate school.”
Plus, though I do not know Ronald’s overall ‘tude at his current age, I would have been SUCH an Ivy League azz-jack. I believe I am a better person for going Crimson Tide (UA) instead of Big Red (Cornell). An Ivy League a-hole in the hole financially. And noooo, going Ivy League does not make folks ‘holes (ex: our hella cool U.S. President went to Harvard)… I am just talking about me.
And to Ronald, who I praise for exhibiting such wisdom at such an early age: Bravo, sir… and ROLL TIDE!

The Kids Ask Royce Da 5’9, “What’s A Sidechick?†On Arts & Raps (Video)
You got a favorite pair of shoes? Well, a sidechick is like the other pair of shoes…that you leave by the door.
– Royce Da 5’9
HA ha! Never heard it put that way, but excellent! This whole video is Royce on some real talk at the level the kids can understand; not watered down, just broken down. Interesting how a talk with the kids (DJ and Zay Zay) can cover such adult-oriented material. Clever. Worth the watch.
Kids React To 2016 Presidential Candidate Donald Trump (Video)
“Wait… a small loan of a million dollars?”
Wowwww. Even kids know what a majority of the Republican voting base (so far) doesn’t seem to get: Donald Trump is a rude, mean man with a terrible sense of humor, who is not in his right mind, who would NOT make America great (he’d make it worse)!
Watch. Just watch.
(Oh, there is a kid in there that kind of stands up for Trump. So, um, there’s that.)
The Kids Ask B-Real, “What’s a Bong?” On Arts & Raps (Video)

Brother Ali and A Class Of Denver 5th Graders ‘Hang Out’ To Learn From Each Other (Video)
This is so dope!!! Part of what we love to do here is bring you coolness that just does not get to see the light of day elsewhere…but should.
5th Grade Students from Denver, CO interview Brother Ali to discuss names and their importance to the individual.
– Paul Clifton
This Google Hangout interview features Mr. Clifton’s students asking questions to guide informative discussion that enriched the speaker and the audience. Ali thanked the kids for teaching him as he was signing off. In the beginning Ali was asked, “What kind of person are you?”
Ali answered, “Well, I try to be a good person… [v]ery connected to The Creator, to myself, and to my heart and other people, and to my community.”
(Note that he did NOT reply ‘the dopest emcee’ – or anything me-me-ME centered – Brother Ali showed up and showed respect and love to those children and they showed it right back. Hip-Hop is the culture. Ali is an example of how we’d love those in the Nation to live – reaching, teaching, uplifting youth… partnering with others (i.e. Mr. Clifton)… giving of self and offering to do it again and again when called up… with a spirit of thankfulness.)
In a word: DOPE!
