Comedy/Politics: Jon Stewart Blasts GOP Over U.S. Government Shutdown on ‘The Daily Show’ (Video)
The Daily Show With Jon Stewart taking it there – to the heights of satire – addressing the government shutdown, and calling out the House Republicans for doing all they can to scuttle the Affordable Care Act, including forcing a government shutdown. “It’s a f**king law” that all three branches of government have thus far upheld. Then Stewart sacked the the Republicans, scrambling to down President Obama’s hallmark legislative achievement, with THE hardest hit:
“Did you see the Giants game on Sunday? They lost 31-7. Do you know what the Giants didn’t say after that game? ‘If you don’t give us 25 more points by midnight on Monday, we will shut down the f**king NFL.'”

MSN hit the nail on the head: ‘Jimmy Fallon + The Roots + ‘Sesame Street’ cast = pure awesome!’ Check out this version of the “Sesame Street” theme featuring Jimmy Fallon, The Roots, and a host of Muppets from the PBS Television series. With The Count counting it down at the start and a verse from Black Thought…nice!

Former U.S. Labor Secretary On Creating A ‘Win-Win’ Economy: Change The Rules (Video)
Robert Reich, U.S. Secretary of Labor during President Bill Clinton’s administration, puts forth a simple premise in his documentary “Inequality for All” (see the trailer after the jump) – our economy should be capitalism checked by the rules of a SENSIBLE democratic society. The above was clipped from his appearance on Moyers & Company (great PBS television) recently. Reich and host Bill Moyers discussed how CRAZY things have gotten… the insanity of economic, political, and day-to-day reality in America… and straight talk on the most direct route out of the madness.

BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge: “Shake Your Body (Down To The Ground)†With Justin Timberlake (Video)
Justin Timberlake covers the Jacksons’ “Shake Your Body (Down To The Ground)” in the BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge. As Michael Jackson is the King of Pop, an icon like Justin – who’d be heir to that throne – should rock a Jackson hit whenever opportunity presents itself.

Kendrick Lamar on Ice Cube’s Influence & Comparisons To Bob Dylan on ‘The Arsenio Hall Show’ (Video)
It’s kinda of wild to see Kendrick Lamar on The Arsenio Hall Show because when the show was poppin’ back in the 90s Kendrick was probably just a toddler. It’s rather special to see Arsenio Hall’s return to late night television & one of his first guests just so happens to be a ‘g.o.o.d. kid’ from the ‘m.a.a.d. city’ of Compton California. Check out video of his performance on the show with Schoolboy Q after the jump below….
Comedy: Members Of U.S. Congress ‘Representing’ In Egypt (Video)
VOTE DAMMIT! Okay… no this is not going to turn into a PSA by @ojones1 (this time). This Daily Show with Jon Stewart clip is a comedy post (but watching ELECTED members of our U.S. Congress “represent” us could send me off on a rant). What’s really funniest though is the portion BEFORE the comedians (Samantha Bee, David Cross, Bob Odenkirk) come in. Just watch…

Contestant Lillie McCloud Stuns ‘X-Factor’ Judges And Brings Kelly Rowland To Tears (Video)
TV talent shows aren’t our usual fare on here. They seem to thrive on celebrating everything BUT talent (including Simon’s scorn and scowl). Moreover, I cannot claim any expertise in contemporary gospel music AND it may even be a bit blasphemous to say this BUT… SHIIIIID! Lillie McCloud can GET IT! And she got chops, too?! Watch this clip floating around the Interwebs showing Lillie rock that CeCe Winans song “Allabaster Box.†Age ain’t nothing but a number. And if you got her number, you are a lucky sonuva…

60 Minutes: The Legacy Of Michael Jackson (Video)
It’s been four years since Michael Jackson’s passing. The late King of Pop is the subject of the above segment on CBS television’s 60 Minutes. The expose focuses on the talent he possessed (up to the end), his material possessions (all left in the warehouse), his debt (cleared by cash from investments and sales of music and other assets); with extensive conversation with John Branca, executor of MJJ’s estate.
(Damn. Michael Jackson’s estate has made $600 million in the four years since his passing. He’s the King even after going to the hereafter!)
After 19 Years, Ice Cube Appears On ‘The Arsenio Hall Show’ (Video)
Have you been watching Arsenio Hall’s show this debut week? You should be. Every show so far has historical significance, but this one – with Ice Cube sitting on the guest couch – no doubt sent shock waves through the Hip-Hop universe. Cube promo’d his coming movie projects… dropped some names (Dr. Dre, F. Gary Gray, Kendrick Lamar) … but that’s not what the real hubbub is about. If you KNOW your Golden Era Hip-Hop history (and the lyrics that documented it) you’ll recognize Cube’s words from ‘The N!gga Ya Love To Hate’:
You know, back in the day, Arsenio passed on Ice Cube appearing/performing on his original 90s show. Think he might have taken that snub to heart? Well, nearly 20 years later, reconciliation comes with an incredible story. See, a young hot-headed Cube showed up to Arsenio’s set to give the host a piece of his mind for dissin’ the OG. He didn’t see Arsenio… but he did run into a young intern on the show who had just penned a movie script. The intern: John Singleton. His script: “Boyz In The Hood.”
Singleton convinced Cube to play the character that would become known to the world as ‘Dough Boy’ but there’s more… Cube always credits John Singleton as the man who got him to write his first screenplay (“Friday”)… and the rest is cinema (and Golden Era) history!
Arsenio has a hot show going so far. Check your local listings and check for it.

ESPN’s E:60 takes on the life journey so far of one Darrelle Revis. “Revis Island – The Darrelle Revis Story” takes us from Revis’ small-town upbringing and career beginnings in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania… to entering the nearby University of Pittsburgh… to joining the NFL and playing for the New York Jets… to tearing his ACL… and to getting traded to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers… all in the short clip above. Of course, Darrelle’s story is still being written.
Kanye West Performs ‘Bound 2’ With Charlie Wilson & The Roots on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon (Video)
“Brandy’s little sister’s lame & he know it now” – Kanye West
Kanye West stopped by Jimmy Fallon’s show last night & performed his new single & my favorite song off of his new album “Yeezus”. I like the audio of this live version just as much as the original & this version isn’t without minor controversy as Kanye provides a funny jab at Brandy’s little brother Ray J in the opening line. Dope song, dope performance. Great setup for when Kanye’s upcoming ‘Yeezus’ tour that’s slated to kick off in October. You know Kanye does great live performances so I know many people will be waiting for this tour along with Kendrick Lamar.  BOUND!!
Teaching Old Drug Dogs A New Way To Sniff? Washington ‘Weed Heads’ Beware (Video)
In Washington state, changes in law enforcement procedures – especially allowing for legal marijuana possession and use – has come with unique challenges. Unique for now… I’m sure other states will eventually have to go through challenges like this: How do you get a dog to respond differently when sniffing for weed in Washington – to let “personal use” ride but still alert handlers to “intent to sell” situations? Some of Washington’s law enforcement agencies have an answer: Stop training drug-sniffing dogs to alert for marijuana.
WHAT??!! Is that a round of applause I hear? Wait. You know I have to posit the downside on stuff like this. But I am not alone this time: My worry is ACLU’s worry. Not all law-enforcement agencies are changing procedures for training or using narcotics dogs, as the possession of marijuana is still illegal under FEDERAL law. That’s one thing, but not the MAIN thing. Holcomb has a concern that
Hate stop and frisk? Try stop, SNIFF, frisk, and DETAIN UNTIL COPS FIND SOMETHING TO ARREST YOU FOR.

Pro Football’s Calvin Johnson Has a ‘Bad Boy’ Alter Ego Handling His Business In This Nike Commercial (Video)
Calvin: Wow, Johnson looks a lot like…
Johnson: Nah, I’m Johnson.
Professional Football is a business… like selling athletic apparel. Those who play for a living operate in two halves; football and the rest. Gotta take care of the football, Calvin Johnson. And, Calvin Johnson, you gotta handle the business of being… well, Calvin Johnson.
It’d help Calvin to have an alter ego that could handle rest of his biz. Enter Diddy Johnson.
Classic Clips: Rare Throwback Footage of DMX & Elephant Man Performing In Jamaica (Video)
DMX going in at Fully Loaded in Jamaica back in 1998. While filming for the movie “Belly” he dropped in to do a little something at the island’s annual party. Elephant Man (performing as part of Scare Dem Crew) was there, too. Classic stuff.
Morgan Freeman Covers ‘Twerking’ On HLN (Video)
‘Twerking’ has been added to the Oxford Dictionary. That’s bad. Having Morgan Freeman ‘reporting’ it as part of a morning broadcast… REALLY bad. He was wide awake at 5 AM to read this mini-story on ‘twerking’ … Now, if you read our last post related to Morgan Freeman, you know he could have been doing something… ANYTHING… better. Like catching up on sleep.
In the clip, he admits he hadn’t even HEARD of ‘twerking’ until HLN Morning Express had him reading about it that day. Should’ve gotten Miley Cyrus to read the bit. She could have covered other slang – like ‘pop the Miley molly’ or something. No sweatin’ (woooo). Hahaaa!
VICE: Chicago’s Gang Problem & The Inequitable Sharing Of Nigeria’s Oil Resources (Video)
YES! Damn smart move by VICE: posting its HBO shows online for their fans who don’t have premium cable.
“Don’t nobody wanna talk no more. It’s so easy to get a gun out here. Everybody wanna shoot it out.”
Wow. Remember how we posted on ‘Chi raq’ (Chicago being a war zone akin to Iraq)? Well, VICE addresses that in this episode’s first half. For the last half, VICE documents Nigeria’s oil industry – oil theft, financial and social costs, and more.
Kanye West Opens Up About Being an Artist, Love For The Kardashians and Being A Father To His New Daughter ‘Nori’ (Video)
Not really into keeping up with the Kardashians, but mom Kris Jenner did a solid interview with Yeezus here. Check it out on what’s being billed as the ‘finale’ (series or season finale? not sure) episode of the Kris Jenner Show. Insight and exposed inner feelings of Kanye West are brought front and center during this sit-down.
Speaking on being able to turn his ‘star quality’ off and on, Kanye shares, “When I’m walking down the street… I’m a bit more shy and nervous.”
Kris responding with understanding, relates fans’ demanding expectation that stars be stars ALL THE TIME: “When people see you, they just expect you to break into a performance.”
Interesting… The two go on to talk about Kanye’s love affair with Kris’ daughter, Kim Kardashian, their brand new baby girl (North West), his relationship with the press and more.
