‘White Squad’ Helps People Of Color Enjoy White Privilege (Video)
Mm hmmmm! This is going to enlighten some, sting others, and make most of us laugh. Good! Saw MTV coming with something truly bold and provocative (no, not a ’16 & Pregnant’ spin-off) – a biting satire called “White Squad.” Part of the network’s Look Different campaign against prejudice, it features a ‘consultancy’ that offers advice and provides stand-ins to help clients of color get fair treatment in situations where being lighter (read: White) is an advantage.
As the “White Squad” site says, “White privilege is real. White Squad is fiction.” So, in a way that respects our intelligence (and sometimes may have us forgetting that it’s just TV), “White Squad” brings up and faces down uncomfortable societal issues. While being tongue-in-cheek funny, it makes us ALL think about how people of color are treated. Now, if MTV’s broaching topics they should ‘leave alone’… that is, if “White Squad” content threatens to make folks uncomfortable… then those folks should should watch. “White Squad” and the Look Different campaign was meant to reach them; not just so-called ‘offenders’ but those who have accepted being ‘offended’ as part of being part of society, too.
Fair is fair for everyone; not just the fairer-skinned. That’s what this site says. Watching you MTV. VERY interesting…
Opinion: Andrew P. Napolitano Asks “What if…?” (Video)
Full disclosure: This message is offered from a Conservative on a Republican-leaning network that caters to Conservative audience. Heck, even the tube poster advertised the Tea Party website. But don’t let that stop you from watching, even considering thoughtfully, what is being said. Just use your big adult brain. Realize that everyone has a “slant” – that all commentators color their analyses in some way.
As it applies here, look past the coy shots at the Obama Administration and such, and ask yourself the ‘What If’ questions that Andrew P. Napolitano poses. Might make you think…differently. And that’s okay. Just look for your own angle to examine things; find your own truth, as an independent thinker.
Very interesting, especially given the timeframe of this broadcast (about four years ago) and today’s realities.

Respect! More of the Hip-Hop Ambassador of Realness – 1/2 of Run The Jewels – making the media rounds. Talk show host Tavis Smiley has Killer Kill From Adamsville in for a sit-down. Captured in two parts: Start with the first above, then continue with the second after the jump.
‘Beast Mode’ With The Ultimate Dive Play And More With Conan (Video)
Sure Marshawn Lynch has appeared on ‘Conan’ before. We posted on it here. But that doesn’t mean this appearance is just more of the same… unless you mean the same I-can’t-believe-that-happened-but-glad-I-saw-it awesomeness…
Then yeah. More of the same. No need to watch then, right? Shiiiiid! Two things: (1) Dude dove, literally, into a tank full of Skittles AND (2) dished on that last $%$! play of the last Super Bowl. Unh hunh. You’re already watching aren’t you? Keep watching after the jump below, too!
Flashback 1984: Jools Holland Covers The Jamaican Music Scene (Video)
Hahaaa! Guess he could not wait to try out his ‘wet suit.’ Back, back in the day, a budding band-member-turned-TV-personality, Jools Holland, did a documentary for Jamaica that aired on UK Channel 4 in 1984. Jam packed this half-hour clip with Jamaican music noteworthies – Dennis Brown, Black Uhuru, Wailing Souls, Yellowman, Mutabaruka, Sly & Robbie… Take a look!
Marshawn Lynch’s ‘Beast Mode’ Fish Tank (Video)
Above: All custom, all “Beast Mode”… Marshawn Lynch’s fish tank. In Lynch’s words, “That thang SAUCY!” See what the builders on the Animal Planet thought about the experience of creating Beast Mode’s fish tank after the jump below…
Did You See Maya Rudolph’s Impression Of Rachel Dolezal? (Video)
Skkkrrrrr! Screeching halt to everything! Rachel Dolezal gets the Maya Rudolph treatment. Maya has done some epic comical impressions (on NBC’s Saturday Night Live back in the day); but this timely gem…WOW! Nothing formal, a ‘spontaneous’ demo at the request of host Seth Meyers. Well, the wig was there; so why not??
Killer Mike Dishes On Dolezal With Larry Wilmore And Guests On ‘The Nightly Show’ (Video)
Killer Mike is hilarious! Still clever in this clip though. Joined across the table by comediennes Natasha Leggero and ‘The Nightly Show’ regular Robin Thede, the show discussion focused comedic fire on Rachel ‘I still consider myself Black’ Dolezal. Clever conversation with bite, but not vicious. Funny, but they do get to some cultural fine points brought up by the former NAACP official’s Blackishness making front page news. Don’t know if they really nailed down an answer to the “Does Rachel get a pass?” question… Then again, who says that was the point? Watch, enjoy, ponder a bit.
Great bonus footage after the jump.
Akon Talks To Al Jazeera About His Art, Philanthropy And Impact On The World (Video)
Senegalese-American recording artist Akon comes onto Talk To Al Jazeera about U.S. race relations, “rebranding” Africa, and his music. Some poignant moments with punch in this interview, but it all comes from the right place. Perspectives from an African living in the U.S., who has drawn a conclusion that native born Americans of African descent have reached time and time again: “America was never built for Black people.”
Watch.
‘Stephen B. Smith’ Joins Mike & Mike In The Morning (Video)
Imitation is the highest form of flattery. Been said before. But a Stephen A. Smith commentary impression like this? Nah, we have NOT heard anything like this before. The ‘call in’ to ESPN’s Mike & Mike In The Morning was done by Frank Caliendo as ‘Stephen B. Smith.’
Icing on the cake… Stephen A. approves! Watch above – hilarious!
I LIKE him better than Stephen A.! @FrankCaliendo IS MY MAN!!! http://t.co/xu5x20OTku

The Daily Show With Jon Stewart Reveals The ‘Progress’ In Police Relations In McKinney (Video)
Not sure what Comedy Central is going to do when Jon Stewart leaves his 11pm ET time slot in August… Not sure what the world of political satire is going to to. In truth, in the news cycle at large, he is one of the few consistently bold enough to even bring viewpoints like this to light.
Sure, lots of folks have been talking about the police-raided pool party in McKinney (Texas, USA); about the way-too-far response of the police called for what was mostly a misunderstanding. The above clip puts a bit of comedy sauce on top of the crap sandwich that is another instance of law enforcement’s general disregard for Black people. But it provided a framework for correspondent Jessica Williams’ frank commentary about the so-called ‘progress’ we have made in police relations in the U.S. Start above with Stewart’s lead in and finish with Jessica’s report after the jump.
Awkward! Jimmy Fallon And Aziz Ansari Read Some Of The Worst First Texts Ever Sent (Video)
Aziz Ansari is already dead funny, but put him on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon; and best believe some laugh-out-loud moments are about to happen. Aziz was on talking about research he did for his book of insights about online dating. Great show, but check out this particularly funny bit that features Jimmy and Aziz ‘analyzing’ some text fails de amore.
“Ballers” Featuring ‘The Rock’ Premieres Sunday, June 21st (Trailer)
Almost time. That “Ballers” series, featuring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, we posted on back in April debuts this weekend (June 21, 2015). Just in time HBO lets loose another trailer. Check it out.
Jamie Foxx & Jimmy Fallon Play ‘Wheel Of Musical Impressions’ On ‘The Tonight Show’ (Video)
Jamie Foxx is a fool! Great clip from The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Fallon invited Foxx to play the Musical Impressions Generator: where Foxx is given the name of an artist to impersonate and a quirky song to sing in their voice. Foxx got the likes of John Legend and Jennifer Hudson cold. Fallon did his mimic thing with Barry Gibb and Bruce Springsteen. Hilarity all around!
John Amos Discusses His Life, Career And The Story Behind The Death Of ‘James Evans’ (Video)
John Amos was Dad (aka James Evans) to a generation (way more if you count the re-runs). Here he talks about his upbringing and career; including, of course, details about and behind his all-too-short time on the network television dram-edy ‘Good Times.’ So much more in there, too. Compelling viewing. Got the entire interview embedded above.
Judge Lynn Toler: Be Careful What You ‘Pray’ For (Video)
No… NO… NOOOOOOO! This #$%&*! right here. Someone PLEASE say he did NOT say, ‘I asked God to send me a White girl with a big booty.’ And he said that to Judge Lynn Toler, strong black sister/lawyer/judge to the TV nation (on Divorce Court).
Damn! No matter what his ‘reasoning’ is, dude is gonna get READ!
Extant – (Season 2 Trailer)
Hey, Halle. Over here… We would NEVER wanna shut you up.
Oh, sorry, having a moment with Halle Berry. Now, let’s talk about her show Extant; with its 2nd season jumping off July 2015. The trailer (above) shows action and drama by the bucket load, but not really giving up much in the way of storyline. Good thing there are interviews and story leaks online. Berry returns as astronaut Molly Woods, realizing that humanity is in bigger trouble than ever. The story thus far supported and built to such, but Yahoo TV had an interview that shed light on a significant turn in the show’s direction.
(WARNING: The rest might spoil some of it for true fans of the show already. Watch the trailer now, and go with our blessing.)
“I think Season 2 is a little sexier, a little soapier…It’s a substantial reboot, in that we’re going to come in, in this time and place, several months [after the Season 1 finale], and that puts Molly in a completely different head space. Her mental stability is potentially in question, and we’re going to find out how that happens. There is a significant amount of new casting that changes the landscape of what we’re doing, and it’s less about Molly as mom, and more about Molly as warrior. Molly as a sexy warrior.”
– Liz Kruger, Producer
Okay… so are we talking ‘sexy warrior’ like Storm of X-Men… or is she going to go all ‘Pope’ on us like that show on ABC that we will not mention because, well, we just won’t (but shout to sexy Kerry Washington). Well, the trailer doesn’t show the Woods character flexing any mutant powers. And given the addition of Jeffrey Dean Morgan (playing J.B. Richter), known for his role on Grey’s Anatomy, CBS might be trying to win over some of ABC’s ‘Gladiator’ fan base with some romancing. Either way, check out the Season 2 trailer; and get ready for the Summer premier.
