Bill Maher Tells The Real Truth About The So-Called ‘Sharing Economy’ On ‘Real Time’ (Video)
Really hope that you watch the dude Bill Maher from time to time. Biting commentary on the world today, mixed in with a lot of laughs – almost always at some dummy’s expense. In the clip above (case in point), the “dummy” is a bunch of “dummies” …US (as in United States)! Our so-called American Dream has historically featured so much greed that things got ugly. It still does – ever-increasing costs of living that stifle even the most modest attempts of most to make a life for themselves. We used to labor under the illusion of work-hard-so-one-day-you-can-play-hard. Not anymore. What’s worse is that we are no longer ‘in the streets’ trying to scare the 1% into some sense of fairness. Nope, we just got really smart about doing without; which in turn supports the rich’s pursuit of happiness… all while giving up our pursuit of anything like it. We now have a ‘sharing economy’ – in which we share rides (Uber) and vacay living space (Airbnb) – built on a vast number of us choosing to fake it since we’ve given up on ever making it to the ‘good life.’ See above, where Bill takes aim at the ‘darling’ Olsen twins; who’ve gone from playing with dolls to playing their workforce. A billion-plus dollar empire; and you can’t pay your interns even a little something?
The one thing we’re not sharing are the profits. Somehow they forgot to create an app for that.
– Bill Maher
Damn.

Spike Lee Speaks On The Basis Of His New Film ‘Chi-Raq’ & Elaborates on Chicago, Sex Strikes (Video)
Interesting. Spike Lee and Stephen Colbert discuss the dire straits of Chicago’s war-like violence and casualty rates, the foundations/inspirations for “Chi-Raq” (a spin off the Ancient Greek satire “Lysistrata,” in which Athenian women vow to withhold sex until their men end the The Peloponnesian War), and the possibility of sex strikes on campus in the coming semester after his movie drops.
“I think that a sex strike could really work on college campuses where there’s an abundance of sexual harassment and date rapes. Second semester it’s going to happen. Once people come back from Christmas, there’s going to be sex strikes at universities and college campuses across this country. I believe it.â€
– Spike Lee
Gun control. Police brutality. So much in a short clip to watch. And you must!

60 Minutes: Football And The Brain (Video)
Well… with Frank Gifford’s post mortem diagnosis of Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE), we get yet another headline and reminder that football – like it or love it – is a dangerous COLLISION sport wrought with injuries…when playing and for the decades beyond. Try and try as American football’s flagship (the National Football League) might, no one has been able to reengineer injury out of the game. Look no further than comments from the NFL commish Roger Goodell in the 60 Minutes clip (embedded after the jump, or click the pic above) for a dose of football-injury reality.
Steve Kroft: You think the game is safer than it’s ever been before?
Roger Goodell: I do. I’m convinced of it. I think the changes that we’ve made have had real results. And we’re seeing that.
Steve Kroft: But do you believe it’s safe?
Roger Goodell: I do believe it’s safer. But injuries are part of active sports and they’re certainly part of football. Football is a contact sport.
Or you could boil it down to retired Ravens’ linebacker Ed Reed’s response…
Steve Kroft: Can you take the violence out of football?
Ed Reed: No.
Truly engaging treatment of the the topic in “Football And The Brain” on CBS News’ 60 Minutes.
Comedy: Stephen Colbert Speaks Out On Police Brutality (Video)
Black Lives Matter. You know it. We know it. Stephen Colbert knows it. And the problem is not ALL cops. Stephen knows that, too. But there is a ‘but’…
“These days there are a lot of people out there talking about the use of excessive force by the police, and without courting any controversy I want to say that police have a very hard job putting their lives on the line. And the vast majority are good people. On the other hand, Black people aren’t imagining this stuff.â€
– Stephen Colbert
Great to see that Stephen did not lose his Comedy Central-born boldness to go tongue-in-cheek (or maybe sharp-tongued criticism with witticism) on important social matters of the day now that he is on big network TV. Bringing levity while shedding more light on police brutality. And still stay hella funny. Kudos to Colbert!

Jalen Rose Speaking On Trash Talking With Jimmy Kimmel (Video)
Hahaaa! It’s like the ‘crack’ commandments… as in cracking jokes and talking trash to opponents. Somebody get word of this to Kristaps Porzingis. Word is, he has an interest in trash talk. Jalen Rose is hilarious; but he admits Gary Payton’s got skills, too.

I just remember seeing Rocky [and] Apollo Creed just being jacked, and I was like, “You know what, I gotta be close.”
Hoping this movie is the brother’s proper re-up …since the “Fantastic Four” reboot …you know. “Creed” ought to be good holiday movie watching though.

Julie Walters Feels 50 Cent’s Tongue (Video)
Are you kidding? If anyone can not only keep his “9 Shots” story lively, then turn it into a song that’s funky, then turn it into something funny, then have the whole thing turn into something freaky, it’s 50 Cent.
Rapper 50 Cent talks about taking 9 bullets in the horrific shooting incident that nearly cost him his life. Julie Walters is only interested in feeling his tongue.
Talk about tongue-in-cheek… well, this is cheeky Julie Walters’ finger in 50’s mouth (saying, “Oh yeah, I can feel it”). Whaaaat?! Only in the UK. Only on the Graham Norton Show.

Ricky Velez Confronts Racism… In The Ring! (Video)
Wow! It’s been forever and a day since we’ve seen WWF’s WWE’s Virgil, muscle and manservant to The Million Dollar Man Ted DiBiase. Whoa wait-a-minute. Manservant? Isn’t that pretty much another term for slave? To get the answer, The Nightly Show correspondent Ricky Velez goes to the former WWE wrestler and former ECW wrestler Tommy Dreamer for some real answers…and some real training…enough to fake it and make it in an actual match…and dares to expose the truth about racism in professional wrestling. Oh, and the answer to that ‘manservant’ question? That’d be a ‘YES.’
“Wrestling is racist as f#ck, Larry.”
– Ricky Velez
Let’s start there.
And watch the two-part story, starting with part 1 above, for the whole story, exciting ‘finish’ (part 2 and bonus clip, after the jump) and discussion with host Larry Wilmore.

ESPN’s 30 For 30: Chasing Tyson (Video)
Plain and simple, in boxing’s mid-1980’s to mid-1990’s, Iron Mike Tyson was that dude! The ‘Baddest Man On The Planet’ was trained and became known for throwing ‘punches with bad intentions’ that left opponents destroyed and fight watchers astonished. Tyson was a star gone nova who cast a commanding shadow over boxing. Meanwhile, there was Evander Holyfield… the man who captured the heavyweight title when he knocked out Buster Douglas, the only dude to date who had knocked Tyson out… the man long-considered a mild-mannered champ, a legitimate champ, but never a truly great champ. In that era, when there were several who might ascend to that status, the way to it ran through Mike Tyson. To be the man, you gotta beat the man; and Iron Mike was that man. Holyfield was ready for that status, ready to take on ‘the man’ in 1991, but Tyson had to pull out due to injury. Rescheduling of the fight of destiny was further delayed when Tyson was convicted of rape later and had to spend time in jail. Even when he was in prison, away from the sport, people overwhelmingly considered Tyson the best of in heavyweight boxing.
All the while, Holyfield was fighting for titles and standing – dramatically gaining, losing and regaining the heavyweight crown. He was fighting. Tyson was sitting. And still, no real respect as a champ on his own… until November 1996. Holyfield, then 34, would finally get his shot at the heavily favored and four-years’ younger Tyson. Truly, this would be when Holyfield could earn the title, not just a belt, but undisputed status as ‘the man’ in heavyweight boxing. Yeah, ’96 gone be that year, when Holyfield was really considered the ‘Real Deal.’ After spending much of The Golden Era “Chasing Tyson,” Holyfield would do it.
Twice.
And that second time… maaaan! Yeah, another incredible 30 For 30 by ESPN. Watch above.
