Technology: Disney’s Robot Stunt Doubles (Video)
Nice! With this tech, moviemakers could very well get realistic action shots, of some pretty daring (read: potentially dangerous) stuff, without having to risk human lives.
The robot acrobats can flip through the air and stick a landing every time.

Catch Me If You Can: Frank Speaks With Google (Video)
Late pass but this is interesting. Yep, words from the guy that was the focus of the “Catch Me If You Can” movie starring Leonardo DiCaprio and the USA series “White Collar.”
For Google’s Security and Privacy Month, we are honored to present the real Frank Abagnale, Renowned Cybersecurity And Fraud Prevention Expert, Bestselling Author & Subject of Catch Me If You Can.
His transformation from one of the world’s most notorious con men to an international cybersecurity expert trusted by the FBI has been mythologized in film and literature – but the takeaways he shares are the real deal.

Watch The Spider Mower In Action (Video)
Soooo… am I officially OLD because this video of [what in effect is] a big azz’d lawnmower cutting grass has me geeked AF??? Maybe. Sorry, but not sorry. Check it out. Be an old nerd like me.
Cutting the grass with this heavy-duty lawn mower won’t feel like a chore anymore.

On top of that, I really hate yard work. Full disclosure.

Portland Water Pipes Bring Water And Power To The People Around The Clock (Video)
Like any reasonable person needed another reason for the country to invest in upgrading its infrastructure.
These awesome pipes generate power from drinking water.
– Our Planet
We need our pipes replaced anyway. Replace them with pipes that generate power while moving that water better. Brilliant!

The U.S. Wants To Have A Word With You: A Plasma Effects Weapon Is In Development Now (Video)
The government and military use drones already. Man do they use drones! Imagine giving them lasers, too. But not just ‘pewn pewn’ ray gun lasers; though surely those are in development, as well. However, this tech is a new kind of way to weaponize with lasers.
The U.S. military’s Joint Non-Lethal Weapons Program, or JNLWD, is inching closer to a weapon that alters atoms to literally create words from thin air. It’s called the Laser-Induced Plasma Effect and, fingers crossed, they hope to be able to say intelligible words within the next three years.
– Patrick Tucker
Creating words from thin air! Think about it: Within three years, we are thinking that they will be able to aim a beam or something into a room and create a voice that sounds like someone is in that room. An enemy combatant is sound asleep, and they put a ghost voice in the room – no body, no drone, just a voice – to tell them something startling like, “There is nowhere to run. We’ve got you in our sights. See the red dot on you? Do… NOT… move!”
Scary, right? Especially if ‘they’ decide that YOU are the enemy.
Technology: Whirlpool Turbines Designed To Provide Renewable Energy For Small Communities (Video)
We’ve seen this work on a large scale… Hoover Dam and others… where you wall up a huge reservoir of water and then let it go; the force of the waterfall spinning a turbine that generates electricity. It is all about turning potential into kinetic energy and harnessing the power.
So what if we could do that on a smaller scale? Oh wait, this is no longer a ‘what if’ thing. This is a ‘why not’ thing. And it is awesome!
Clean, renewable, no harm to inhabitants (including the fish), and only one moving part. Genius!

Technology: Boston Dynamics’ Latest Dog-Bot Prototype Can Open Doors (Video)
Boston Dynamics has done some of everything in the field of robotics. Even dog-bots like this one. But this one… can open doors! When will they go ‘too far’ you wonder? Who knows? Especially if they keep topping the last robo-tech feat with the next.
(Extra creepy bonus points for those bots working together. Wow!)
Cover Story: How Falcon Heavy Will Change Space Travel (Video)
Did you catch SpaceX’s Falcon Heavy rocket launch from Cape Canaveral, Florida, the other day? Wonder what all the fuss was about? And maybe why it carried a red Tesla roadster into orbit? Well, watch and learn, friends. Watch and learn.
Smart Glasses With A Normal Look & Feel (Video)
Know how folks want to rock some tech bling that stands out; that actually ‘blings’ and gets noticed? Like a really nice watch? Well, you don’t want that in a pair of smart glasses, do you? Nahhhh.
Intel’s Vaunt smart glasses won’t make you look like a Glasshole. Dieter Bohn got an exclusive look at Intel’s latest gadget. By shining a low-powered laser into your retina, the glasses can get all sorts of information without pulling out your phone.

Can Prosthesis Give An Opponent Power? Yes! About 8,000 Pounds Of It (Video)
Prosthesis is an 8,000-pound, 15 foot tall, 18 foot wide, exoskeleton that is completely controlled by a human operator. It’s the world’s first racing “mech” (a class of tech that includes robots or machines controlled by people). Built by Furrion.
I mean. I know it’s tech. But it’s a BEAST, too!

Uno Bolt: The Electric Unicycle (Video)
This is cool commuter/recreation travel tech all by itself, but I am going to embed some “Spiral Zone” after the jump so that y’all might understand why this has me so geeked up!
This is the Uno Bolt, the first electric unicycle with built-in stabilizers. You can turn by leaning, accelerate by leaning forward and leaning back to slow down. The top speed is 22 mph, has a 25-mile range and fully charges in 45 minutes. An LED display shows distance, speed and battery percentage. It is equipped with an all-terrain tire and can climb hills up to 45 degrees. The lever can be used to reverse and break instantly. The LED lights can light up the night. A Kickstarter campaign is underway for Uno Bolt. One can be yours for $1,000. Now go explore, one wheel at a time.

Science: Checking Out The Scene, On Mars, With Footage From The Curiosity Rover (Video)
‘White-balanced’ eh? Okay, so the video was touched up a bit. Still, imagine: There is an Earth vehicle roaming Mars… now… looking around… for topography and perhaps proof of life.
Curiosity Project Scientist Ashwin Vasavada gives a descriptive tour of the Mars rover’s view in Gale Crater. The white-balanced scene looks back over the journey so far. The view from “Vera Rubin Ridge” looks back over buttes, dunes and other features along the route.

Science: How Far Have Our Spacecraft Traveled So Far (Video)
New Year’s… on these occasions we usually look back and look forward at the same time. How about we do something like that here: As we boldly go into 2018, let’s take a look at how far we have boldly gone, into space as a human race, already.
2017 marks the 60th anniversary of the launch of Sputnik, the first satellite to orbit Earth. In those 60 years, we’ve gone much further, reaching new planets and even the edge of the solar system. Watch as the human race explores the galaxy around us.

Technology: Tesla’s New Semi Truck And Roadster (Video)
Aw c’mon maaaan! Real-life Tony Stark (aka Elon Musk) had his company whip up a couple of new future whips… and one is a TRUCK????! A damn SEMI??! Wow!
Elon Musk unveiled Tesla’s new Semi truck and (in a surprise) a second-generation Roadster. The truck is supposed to get 500 miles per charge, while the Roadster is said to achieve 620 miles.
– The Verge
That’s 500 miles, at maximum weight, at highway speed… which Tesla’s truck can get to faster than today’s diesel models. Yeah. Musk’s truck can kick our trucks’ asses.
