Jill Scott Talks About Her New Movie ‘Baggage Claim’, Future, A$AP Rocky, & Reflects On Her Start In Music Business (Video)
Jilly From Philly! Peter Rosenberg (and DJ Cipha Sounds) recently welcomed soul songstress Jill Scott to sit and chat on Hot 97’s The Juan Epstein Show. During the chat Jill plugs her upcoming movie “Baggage Claim,” reveals that she has actually been acting for decades, that she thinks Future and A$AP Rocky are beautiful, that she wrote the hook for The Roots’ “You Got Me” (uncredited, sang by Erykah Badu), ultimately getting her real start in music while staining wood at DJ Jazzy Jeff‘s studio… Great interview. The above video is only part of the interview. Audio for the full interview is available for streaming below.

R&B/Alternative: Superhumanoids – ‘Bad Weather’ (Scoop DeVille RMX)
Scoop Deville refixes the Superhumanoids’ track “Bad Weather” (original version available on the Superhumanoids’ LP “Exhibitionists”) to give it an alternative soul-meets-Hip-Hop feel. Check it out. Pretty dope.
R&B/Soul: Salaam Remi – “Makin’ It Hard For Me†f/ Corinne Bailey Rae
Salaam Remi lets UK singer Corinne Bailey Rae lace lovely soul vocals all over this track. This “Makin’ It Hard For Me†is from his forthcoming LP “One: In The Chamber” (due out September 30, 2013). You can pre-order that LP at iTunes now.

Sexual Healing: The Marvin Gaye Story (Extended Trailer)
This trailer is a stirring first look at the Marvin Gaye biopic “Sexual Healing.” Jesse L. Martin – remember dude from ‘Law & Order’ (without any letters after it)? He’s starring as Marvin Gaye… and on that ‘Law & Order’ vein, Martin’s former ‘L&O’ cast mate S. Epatha Merkerson plays Alberta Gaye. A host of other players put in good work; but the actor playing Marvin’s father – Dwight Henry as Marvin Gaye Sr… whew! The tension!
The biopic video was set to be released April 1, 2014, but funding issues have halted production since June 2013. No word heard on the finishing of this flick yet. We can only hope this work gets done, in the can, and onto the screen soon.
R&B/Soul: IAMNOBODI x Stacy Epps – “Lovelite†(Video)
“Lovelite” is a prelude a collaborative effort on the way from IAMNOBODI and Stacy Epps. Directed by Chad Hess, these warm visuals cradle the song featuring Stacy’s silky singing so well. Very nice. Enjoy.
R&B/Alternative: BOSCO – “Black Bookâ€
Atlanta’s own soulful songbird BOSCO is back with a nice track, “Black Book.†The Interwebs note nothing of a project from BOSCO on the horizon. But bob and sway with this for now. It’s good. It’s FREE by the way.

R&B/Soul: Emeli Sandé – “My Kind Of Love†(Red One x Alex P Remix) [Video]
Emeli Sandé with visuals for the Red One & Alex P Remix to “My Kind Of Love.†Original version appears on her LP “Our Version Of Events” (out now on iTunes).
R&B/Soul: Chrisette Michele – “Love Won’t Leave Me Out” (Video)
R&B/Soul: Denitia x Sene – “Feel Better” (Prod. By Sene x Nolan)
New music from Denitia and Sene entitled “Feel Better.” The Sene and Nolan tag team production yielded a track that could very well ease souls… and make you feel better. Chanty, echo-style vocalization over the track… mo’ better. Enjoy!
R&B/Alternative: Yuna – “Falling” (Prod. By Robin Hannibal)
This is dope!!!
Yuna is dropping what promises to be a hot LP on October 29, 2013, entitled “Nocturnal” (available for pre-order now at Amazon). But check out this single “Falling†(produced by Robin Hannibal of the soul-pop group Rhye).

R&B: Robin Thicke – “Give It 2 U” feat. 2 Chainz x Kendrick Lamar (Video)
Robin Thicke having more fun on the set. This “Give It 2 U” video is on the same vein as that “Blurred Lines” video (which we posted on here) – lotta a sexy (shout out to the Alabama State University Dancing ‘Stingettes’ featured in the video) mixed with a liberal amount of Hip-Hop. 2 Chainz and Kendrick Lamar rode along on this party track. Respect to director Diane Martel for another great vid: first, “Blurred Lines” and now this one!
Asante – “Prototype” (SanteJazz Remix) [Prod. By Atu]
Asante blowing over an airy refix of Andre 3000’s “Prototype†done up by producer Atu. The track will be on Asante’s forthcoming release “Trilogy: The SanteJazz Trifecta Remix Series.” Is that beatboxing on the track, too? Gotta listen.
Raheem DeVaughn – “Ridiculous” (Video)
We posted the audio for this slow jam perfection by Raheem DeVaughn a while ago. This is the video for “Ridiculous†off the LP “A Place Called Love Land†(due out September 3, 2013).
Lorde – “Royals” (Weeknd Remix)
The first time I heard this song I played it back like a hundred times. This joint is gangsta! This is joint is extremely dope to me musically & lyrically. The Weeknd has a mix of New Zealand songstress Lorde’s track “Royals” with the shots and eagle screeches in there over a nice beat. Don’t know where the original mixing ends and The Weeknd’s remixing begins, but who cares. Press play and rock with this.
R&B: Estelle – “Be In Love” feat. Jeremih
As a fan of reggae/dancehall & dub music I can really appreciate when good singers get together over this type of island breezy production. British singer Estelle enlists fellow R&B singer Jeremih to get down with her on this “Be In Love” track from her upcoming “Love & Happiness: Vol. 2 Waiting To Exhale” EP that will be released on her own label imprint New London Records. I’m feeling the latest push by a number of true R&B/Soul singers taking chances with more island style production in their music.
R&B/Soul: The-Dream – “Too Early” feat. Gary Clark, Jr. (Video)
R&B/Soul: Sunni Colòn – “Templeâ€
You’re going to want to chime in with “Your Body Is A Wonderland” (by John Mayer) right at the start of this “Temple” joint by Sunni Colòn. But don’t do it. Respect this groove! Easy Sunday slow listening courtesy of the talented, versatile L.A. emcee/singer/songwriter. Enjoy this as you ride out…
“…windows down, no A/C in the whip.”
– Sunni Colòn
Denitia x Sene – “It’s Your Fault”
Sunday morning-style soul compliments of Sene (on the beat). Denitia and Sene laid silky sound down for “It’s Your Fault.” Shhh. Just listen.
R&B/Soul: Sola Rosa – “Promise” ft. Olivier Daysoul (Tall Black Guy Remix)
Tall Black Guy remixes “Promise” from Sola Rosa’s forthcoming album, “Low and Behold, High and Beyond.” Another silky smooth remix recommendation magically delivered to my inbox courtesy BamaLoveSoul. Love the A-State staple for good music for putting us on to good work like this.

Terrace Martin – “No Wrong, No Right†feat. Robert Glasper x James Fauntleroy
Here’s a single from Terrace Martin’s forthcoming LP “3ChordFold” (due out August 13, 2013). “No Wrong, No Right” (featuring Robert Glasper and James Faunleroy) expresses how ‘sometimes in relationships, no one wants admit when they are wrong….and men have a hard time admitting when they are right, for fear of the backlash.’ In advance of the LP’s release, this single is on iTunes today.
