Trying To ‘Stay Melo’ In New York: Speaking On The State Of The Knicks and The NY State Of Mind (Video)
“New York is the greatest city on the planet, I think. But you’re not a New Yorker if you don’t wake up some days and be like ‘man, f#ck this place.’â€
Toto Melo, we’re not in Kansas Cuba Puerto Rico anymore. We’re back in the NYC for this ep; and we may as well get used to it…
In the third episode of Stay Melo we stick around New York City and hit Melo’s personal gym at Terminal 23 to see him get ready for the season with former teammate Iman Shumpert. Then we head to Red Hook, Brooklyn to track down Melo’s childhood home and visit the studio of street artist Swoon. Along the way Melo dishes on his relationship with New York and struggles with the media.
Art & Music: The “787 Graffiti Ball” Visually Captured By Atlanta’s ‘Hometown Heroes’ (Video)
One thing about Atlanta is the range of events that happen here. Whether it is a Hip Hop Show, EDM or the Ballet & Symphony. Or it could be a Falcons, Hawks, Braves game or NASCAR event. Besides those well known events you have cool niche events like BonFire ATL, Elevated ATL and 787 Graffiti Ball. The 787 Graffiti Ball recently went down here in Atlanta at 787 Windsor St. An event where the first 250 people who RSVP’d got a free spray can for the event.
What is Graffiti Ball ? Well it is a night dedicated to the art of Scribbling, Scratching, and Defacing. Not only is it a chance for the everyday person to do some graffiti without having to look over their shoulders for cops. Some of the biggest and emerging aerosol artists are brought together ranging from NYC, Miami, and of course here in Atlanta. One of the well known ATL artists represented was DR. DAX whose amazing work can be seen all around Atlanta. This video recap was shot by HomeTown Heroes make sure you check out their site hometownheroesatl.com

Carmelo Anthony Goes To Puerto Rico, To ‘Stay Melo’ In The Hood To Do Some Good And More (Video)
New Stay Melo ep on VICE Sports for y’all. Last one was about Cuba. This time it’s Puerto Rico.
Carmelo Anthony recognizes, like most looking outside in, that Puerto Rico is currently in economic decline. But to Melo it’s a place of family, opportunity and a growing sports culture. He goes to chill (Melo out, if you will) but also to do some goodwill and good work. Spent a few days training with a group of fellow Knicks, seeing the stadium that will house his Puerto Rico FC NASL team, riding out to La Perla (one of Puerto Rico’s most notorious hoods), hanging out with reggaeton legend Tempo (home after a 12 year prison bid) at one of the b-ball courts Melo has refurbished for the community and more stuff.
Sure, ballers are in the League…balling. But with all that wealth, if you aren’t doing something…you got nothing! Just saying. Now, watch and listen as Melo does something; and shares and wrestles with his vision for what he’d like to accomplish in PR.

Japanese Sword Master Isao Machii Slices Through A 100-MPH Fastball (Video)
Above: Poised and ready to strike is Guinness World Record-holder Isao Machii, a master of Laido (a Japanese sword-based martial art). The latest demonstration of craft mastery from this “modern-day samurai  oh… just cutting a baseball, flying at him at 100 mph, in half while standing about 30 feet away from where it was fired. That’s all. You do know that a baseball mound is over twice that far from a major league batter at home plate, right?
Watch reeeeallly close in the clip above. The slice so deadly precise happens in the blink of an eye!
Hopsin – “No Words” (Prod. By Don Cunana) [Video]
Hahahahaaa!!!! Nothing better than a bit of biting satire to kick today in its azz! In this case, to kick folks putting out that bullsh!t (as well as those that believe what they do is cool) dead in their azz… For all those weirdos (as Stro might call them – “Skrrr”), there are “No Words.” Hopsin (er… ‘Hash Brown’ …is here to say so, to laugh AT them (not ‘with’ them); and he will get a laugh out of you, too.
Thing about it though: You know Hop is telling the truth here.
You can get this hot ‘Hash Brown’ banger (on the low…make it your secret shame…HA!) by grabbing a copy of Hopsin’s album “Pound Syndrome” (out on iTunes now).
Carmelo Anthony Goes To Cuba To Cover Soccer, Soak In The Culture and Scoop Some Cigars (Video)
Very dope. And the time is right. Soccer (e.g. football, futbol) being the world sport it is, America being a leading sports nation, and Melo being a leading sportsman from America…
Throughout the NBA off-season VICE Sports and Carmelo Anthony are exploring street sport cultures around the world. In our premiere episode, Melo travels to Cuba to explore the rise of soccer in a nation synonymous with baseball, ride a 1950s drop top in the rain, and grab some fresh rolled Cuban cigars along the way.
Carmelo was a good choice for a correspondent, too. This VICE Sports piece felt more like interesting leisure than intense learning; enriching experience captured on video either way.
Yasiin Bey Versus… Any Emcee? (Video)
No doubt you’ve heard (and seen) the shots let off in the video of Yasiin Bey (the artist formerly known as Mos Def) declaring on camera that no one can test or best him, Black Thought or King Los in a rhyme fight… that anyone who thought different could meet and settle the beef for big charity dollars and bragging rights. You heard about that, right? Well if you didn’t, you can play the embedded video above.
Raw, right? Started thinking about who might step to? How about Lupe Fiasco?
Hells yes! Lupe threw down the gauntlet like, “Once again…It’s ON!”
BUT… hold up… wait…
Take It Personal: Ghostface Killah Still Has Beef With Action Bronson (Video)
When ur wrong ur wrong and I was wrong. I apologized for the comments. I’ll always be a stand up human. Much love.
— MR. WONDERFUL (@ActionBronson) July 20, 2015
It has come to our attention that some of y’all may not be aware of the near-nuclear-launch tension between Action Bronson and Ghostface Killah. Here is what has come to pass, and why Ghostface put out the above visual getting in Bronson’s azz:
- Bronson goes on a show on ESPN, and near the end, kinda goes in on Ghost (see after the jump).
- Ghost hears about the shot Bronson took at him on TV, and the two talk it out via phone, AND Bronson apologizes via Twitter…AND deletes those Tweets (per the Ghost vid above).
- Ghost goes the f#ck off (the video above…daaayyyuuummmm)!
- Bronson apologizes on Twitter (and leaves the Tweet up, see below the video above).
This just in… Ghost does NOT accept Bronson’s apology. See?
NOW, in case you keep up with such things, you are up on things.

Jon Stewart Calling Bullsh!t On Media’s Baltimore Protest Coverage: ‘Kids Blowing Off Steam’ Versus ‘Urban Kids Rioting’ (Video)
This episode of The Daily Show, hosted Jon Stewart, takes some funny-but-true shots at CNN and Wolf Blitzer’s coverage of ongoing protests and riots in Baltimore. Blitzer said the events there are “unbelievable†and never-before-seen…Really? What about the RECENT events in Ferguson? And unbelievable? C’mon… college kids do much damage after big games. Of course, the Baltimore situation is not a game; and indeed there is more to the outbursts in Baltimore (if only the news would cover it).
The heavier coverage of the annual White House Correspondents’ Dinner compared to the riots in Baltimore (sparked by the death of 25-year-old Freddie Gray, who died days after suffering a spinal cord injury while in police custody) was more than fair. The governor calling in the National Guard, properties and cars were set on fire citywide…all less than an hour’s drive away??? Yeah, CNN [and Today Show and other news media], you’re slipping. And blowing on the flames on the fires now, to keep your ratings stoked, instead of fanning out and covering the fullness of the story (including root causes like poverty, lack of economic opportunity in the community, issues related to youth disenfranchisement) is not helping.

The Rise of MMA in Jordan (Documentary)
“We went to Jordan’s capital city of Amman where Palestinian refugee and Brazilian jiu-jitsu master Samy Al-Jamal teaches Jordanians and Muslim seekers from around the world the secrets of mixed martial arts. Then we met Rana Qubbaj, the first female Arab woman to win an International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation tournament. With a smile perpetually on her face, Qubbaj works to overcome both her opponents and any number of familial, social, and cultural issues raised by a woman doing combat sports in the Middle East.”
Meet ‘The Hulk’: A Massive 175-Pound Family Pit Bull
“A TODDLER hangs off the back of a super-sized pit bull – that could snap a man’s arm with a SINGLE bite. But despite being a banned breed in the UK, breeders Marlon and Lisa Grennan say monster dog ‘the Hulk’ is 100 per cent trusted with their young son. Despite the lethal potential of 12-stone Hulk and the couple’s many other dogs, three-year-old Jordan has grown up with them within arm’s reach. The couple’s company Dark Dynasty K9s supplies animals to high-profile celebrities, billionaires and wealthy professionals – as well as law enforcement around the world. They are trained to have ‘no fear’ and some specialist dogs can even run up the side of fences and walls to reach second-floor windows. Many their dogs share their house on a sprawling 150-acre ranch in New Hampshire, USA. The dogs include more than a dozen highly trained pit bulls – and a single chihuahua.” – Barcroft TV
Common ‘Keeps It 100’ on Black Women & Fatherhood on ‘The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore’ (Video)
Common recently appeared on the panel revolving around Black Fatherhood on ‘The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore’ that airs on Comedy Central. New York Times columnist Charles Blow, founder of the Center for URban Families Joe Jones and comedian Mike Yard also take part in this discussion that began with the simple statement that ’72 percent of black children are born to unwed mothers.’
Although they tackle serious issues in this discussion, things get hilariously uncomfortable fast as Larry poses questions about whether they’d play in the Super Bowl instead of witnessing the birth of their first child & their opinions on whether or not black women are too domineering in relationships. Check out more video from the discussion below……

VICE: Korean Poo Wine (Video)
Korean rice wine mixed with the fermented turd of a human child (yeah, that kind of “poo”)? Ummmm… that’ll be a hell no from me, Alex. But you can take a look at VICE International and see if you like the sh!t they’re pouring.
(Is the VICE reporter crying and laughing while she is upchucking? Damn.)

Comedy: Kevin Hart Explains The Difference Between ‘White’ & ‘Black’ Strip Club Culture (Video)
I agree with Kevin Hart 100% on this & have even said the same thing on my Twitter page. All strip clubs are not created equal. I don’t discriminate when it comes to women, but I do tend to avoid the “white strip clubs.” Hahaaa
How-To Eat Live Octopus (Video)
The people over at Munchies sent their correspondent Sydney Chun to a Seoul, Korea restaurant to report on the controversial practice of eating live octopus. Before watching the video I immediately recalled a previous incident of a South Korean woman eating cooked squid & she still became impregnated with 12 baby squid in her mouth. Doesn’t exactly look & sound appealing in addition to those type of risks, but every culture is different around the world. In the video above they have Head chef Kim Sang Jin show viewers the proper way to how to prepare the Octopus for human consumption. If you’re gonna eat Octopus you better pay careful attention, because getting impregnated in the mouth is the least of your worries. You could actually choke & die. Sheehz!

Yasiin Bey Enjoys Hypnotic Melodies In Morocco (Video)
Yasiin Bey chills in a restaurant halfway ’round the world; bobbing heads with natives and appreciative travelers to Gnawa jams. Originally introduced to Morocco by Sub-Saharan slaves sounding off and singing their aches away, this is definitely a music form under-appreciated by Westerners. But if you are going to do music for the world, you gots to be all in it and around it. Respect to Yasiin. Best believe the brother is taking in the entertainment and the influences. It’s what artists do. Watch.
