Chris Brown – “Die Young” feat. Nas
Put a hand up, make a fist. Now keep it there and hold up two fingers for peace.
Yes, indeed. We are still getting powerful music to inspire us to fight against violence… to fight for life… to keep the fallen in our hearts & minds and keep hope alive! Let no more “Die Young.” Solid work from two of the best: Chris Brown and the G.O.D.M.C. Nas.

Anderson .Paak – “Come Down†(Remix) feat. Ty Dolla $ign x ScHoolboy Q
Been official that “Come Down” was a hit. But remixxing it somehow makes us wanna say it’s official… again! Guess that is what a remix is s’posed to do, huh? Haaa! Check it out. This one includes Ty Dolla $ign and ScHoolboy Q in on the jam.

The Making Of “Strength Of A Woman” (VH1 Trailer)
Watching the trailer for “The Making Of: Strength Of A Woman” (debuting on VH1, May 2nd at 11pm EST) you get a sense that Mary J. Blige is laying it all on the line in a few ways. First, she mentions a couple of times that this “Strength Of A Woman” project she is dropping is about healing herself; sharing her struggles, not prescribing or preaching for anyone else. That more than infers a second; Mary putting her business all the way out there (which she has done before, but that “that’s my Becky With The Good Hair” line implies some SCANDALOUS storytelling is in store). Third, The Queen Of Hip-Hop Soul declares that this LP is the ‘real Mary‘… almost like a love-it-or-leave-it decision point will be laid out for the fans who cop. Risky, but hey, it’s Mary J; so folks will likely love it.
Now, we’d be pound foolish not to mention the coup of leveraging Mary’s brand in pushing an ‘album documentary’ timed around the release of “Strength Of A Woman” on VH1 where her target audiences (longtime fans of hers AND longtime fans of reality show level DRAMA) will be watching. Plus, peep all the contributors’ cameos, from Diddy to DJ Khaled.
There’s a reason the Queen is the most powerful attacking piece on the board. The Queen Of Hip-Hop Soul is on the move, starting with tomorrow’s release of “Strength Of A Woman” followed by this tell-everything documentary on May 2nd.
Faith Evans x The Notorious B.I.G. – “Legacy”
Bit of semisweet memory lane traveling at the start and end of this. Not together, but cool with wifey Faith Evans. This is her and Biggie together again on track. Here’s “Legacy.” Posted earlier on here, “The King & I” is linked below.
Robert Glasper – “The Cross” feat. Lianne La Havas x Common
If Jesus died on the cross why I gotta carry it?
– Common
Wow. The mark of good instrumentation… the levels to which it pushes accompanying vocalization. Like, just LISTEN to what that music Robert Glasper put down for “The Cross” pulls out of Lianne La Havas and Common. The singing. The lyrics!
Might have to watch that “Burning Sands” this weekend just because of this.
This song was written by Robert Glasper and Karriem Riggins, and Common for the film “Burning Sands” on Netflix now!
R&B: Musiq Soulchild – “Start Over”
You know, and I know, no one else could love you like the way you know that I could.
Yooooo! What is Musiq trying to do with this? Extend ‘cuffing season’ … maybe “Start Over” like it’s late fall on y’all? Not saying don’t play this for her, player, but BE CAREFUL! She WILL fall in LOVE. Don’t hurt ’em Soulchild. It’s Spring Fling time; not Fall in love time.
On second thought, hurt ’em! We always need dope music. And this = DOPE music!
TLC – “Way Back” feat. Snoop Dogg
TLC taking a page from the De La and getting their funding up front, en masse, straight from the fans (read: instead of some ‘label’). They did a Kickstarter for the LP joint they are jumping off in June (the 30th to be precise). And to all the purists, don’t worry. TLC is T-Boz, Chilli, and Left Eye (RIP); no replacement singer from reality TV or otherwise. This album will be their last, so savor it. For a taste of what’s to come, start with this “Way Back” (featuring Snoop Dogg).
NxWorries (Knxwledge x Anderson .Paak) – “Scared Money†(Video)
NxWorries with a visual for another single slated for the “Yes Lawd!” remix LP.
“Scared Money†– directed by Calmatic – is a homage to the film Paid in Full, set in the year 1988. The section part of the video contains a remix of “Best One,†produced by Knxwledge, from a forthcoming, full-length Yes Lawd! remix album.
Chris Brown – “Privacy” (Video)
Baby I promise I won’t tell nobody, as long as you let me hit it… like every night.
New single. New sexy video. Straight forward, with not much left to the imagination about where the video is headed; and about the head C Breez is gone be getting. But that probably will not bother you. Because EYE CANDY GALORE in this “Privacy” vid’jo yo!
BJ The Chicago Kid Is Asked, “Why Does Future Mumble?” And More On ‘Arts & Raps’ (Video)
BJ The Chicago Kid said Future has a sippy cup… aaaand that’s where we get started with some serious snapping!! Then the kid (not BJ, one of the others) disses Hov… Yoooo! This video is hardcore, funny and more.
Rising and soulful singer, BJ The Chicago Kid, joins the show to answer, “Why Does Future Mumble?” See an interview of a lifetime in this week’s episode of All Def Digital’s Arts and Raps!
Plus, the kid can carry a tune. Great episode of Arts and Raps.
(And c’mon Hollywood. Make that ‘Equalizer’ sequel and cast BJ as the star; defending the hardware store against another gang of bad guys. Call it ‘Equalizer II: Security And Justice For All!’ Cut the check, and send it here. The kids’ll love it!)
R&B: Victoria Monet – “Ready” (Video)
Keep your mind right, your body tight, and be everything you want to see in him… Victoria Monet’s musical treatise “Ready” is talking directly to the ladies. BUT this visual presentation is for the fellas. Plenty to see, more to love. HOT candy. That hot, sweet cinnamon candy. And even though the song says it’s better to do it (get “Ready”) while you are single, you and your baby can watch this together. Affirmation, and ideas, delivered in the sexiest way by Victoria Monét!
DJ Yogi – “The Brunch Mix 04 08 2017” (Mixtape)
Time for some more dopeness from the homie DJ Yogi! Says it’s a “Brunch Mix,” but with AV8, KRS-ONE, Eric B. & Rakim, Xzibit, Peedi Crack, Freeway… must be planning an amped brunch. Click play. Start jamming. Protect that neck! Heavy nod factor.

Syd – “Treading Water” (Prod. By Steve Lacy x Flip Colson)
Fact. Syd can’t do anything but win with us. That’s not favoritism, that’s her constant persuit of next-level realism and lyricism and all things dope in what she delivers. In whatever we come across, the genuine nature, talent and care come through. Which is why we had to come through and put up this latest post on her. “Treading Water” didn’t make her “Fin” album, but that’s okay… it made it here.
R&B: Trey Songz – “Animal†(Video)
Thinking anything other than Trey Songz is on a roll and Tremaine The Album is gonna be a MONSTER… is plain ol’ hater talk! You just saw “Playboy” on here, now Songz is bringing out the “Animal” on y’all! Check out the video if you need proof, or if you like feasting your eyes on some thick Honey-coated Eye Candy!
Oh and the music’s pretty good, too.
Skillz – “Cheesesteaks & Tastykakes” (Mixtape)
Nice! Can’t tell us that you don’t pick up things from folks you are around. Traveling the globe for years with a Philly mixmaster like DJ Jazzy Jeff (check out all their Vinyl Destination stops posted on here) will let you pick up some stuff from pure osmosis. But this here, this is some training! Nice work from Skillz on this tribute mix to Philly he’s dubbed “Cheesesteaks & Tastykakes.” Dope!!
Did a live broadcast yesterday playing some of my favorite music from one of my favorite cities, Philly!! I have a special place in my heart for Philly, its like a 2nd home to me! A few people asked me for it, so here it is…. hope yall enjoy this jawn! Cheesesteaks and Tasty Kakes! Shout to all my Philly fam! #215
R&B: Eric Bellinger – “Make You Mine”
Does your father know you’re a bad, bad, bad girl… Girl I wanna make you mine!
Damn. No hesitation on the “Make You Mine” track. Eric Bellinger gets straight to the business! Trying to envision the video, g’wan rude b’woy on a bad g’yal… dutty wiiine! Up-tempo fun track ought to give you all some ideas for setting off the weekend sweating. Good choice of a single to drop from his “Eric B For President: Term 2” EP (out now). Maaaaybe you wanna grab a download. Just saying. The link’s right there.
ERIC BELLINGER – MAKE YOU MINE | ERIC B FOR PRESIDENT: TERM 2 (EP)
Unsung: Jon B (Full Episode)
Long Island’s (NY, USA) own Jon B was the subject of ‘Unsung’ in the above episode. Once again, great stuff… this time, on the forerunner for later ‘White chocolate’ crooners (like Justin Timberlake and Robin Thicke) in the Soul/R&B genre. Produced and pushed to excellence by Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds, Jonathan “Jon B” Buck had a good (albeit short-lived) run last century. Learn about his coming up and blowing up back in the day. Watch.
Miguel – “2 Lovin U†(Prod. By DJ Premier) [Video]
Man hellyeah, HELLYEAH! Miguel and DJ Premier HAD to do a video for that “2 Lovin U†banger! Straightforward shooting in its approach and its messaging. Not subtle at all. It’s like if Michael Jackson (RIP) consulted on the video and said put some it don’t matter if it’s “Black Or White” (or gay or straight or Muslim…) in there. Get into this and groove with it. You KNOW you want to!
The Weeknd – “I Feel It Coming” feat. Daft Punk (Video)
The Weeknd has this new jawn “I Feel It Coming” that was produced by & features Daft Punk. Before hearing the song you already know it’s going to be the business, right? You are correct! Reward yourself by watching the visuals for the song.
Now.
This single came from the “Starboy” LP that dropped Novemeber 2016.
