Big Boi Politics: 1/2 Of Outkast Speaks On Why He Didn’t Vote For President Barack Obama (Video)

If you follow Big Boi on twitter like I do then you should already have an idea of his political views. Personally I find myself having more in common with Big Boi’s political views than most people which is one of the primary reasons I do follow him on twitter. I don’t follow many artists on twitter unless they do have something significant to say or if they are able to bring my attention to something important other than “entertainment”.   I’m an independent & I agree with many of the views of the Libertarian party although I don’t have any political affiliations with ANY political party. In the last presidential election my views fell in line more with candidates like Jill Stein or Gary Johnson more than President Barack Obama, but unfortunately the way the American political process works it was clear to me Jill Stein & Gary Johnson didn’t have a shot at actually winning.  Although more independent voices are cropping up over the past decade the reality is until there are significant campaign reforms, independent candidates many never have a real shot.  In an ideal world I would have voted for either of those two, but I feel wasting a vote on a candidate that is unable to actually win played a huge part in my personal decision & voting for Mitt Romney was entirely out of the question.  In a recent interview on HuffPost Live, Big Boi sets the record straight for people who “assumed” he voted for President Barack Obama in addition to a few other hot button topics. Check out more of the interview in the videos below after the jump…..

Politics/Law: ‘So I Tweeted a Pic of My Ballot. Why Are You Mad?’

I was as excited as anyone to see that so many proud voters showed up at the polls.

[Not as many as for 2008; but that’s another discussion…stay focused!]

But what soured my mood… was that that enthusiasm sparked a craze of voters Tweeting pics of their ballots. While I usually reserve my opinions, I must say that that was NOT the move for two reasons:

  1. Because in this country we campaign in public, then vote via SECRET ballot; and
  2. Because that sh!t is AGAINST THE LAW in many places!

Now, laws do vary from state to state, but penalties for sharing your ballot with the world can be stiff. Violators could be convicted of a misdemeanor in Colorado, being hit with a fine of not more than $1000, imprisonment in county jail for not more than one year, or both – according to the ProPublica article by Lois Beckett. Elsewhere, like in Michigan and Hawaii, voters who show their ballots risk, at the least, having their votes thrown out!

By now, you may be thinking, ‘Damn… @ojones1 sure does get uptight about some not-a-big-deal *ish. Why does it matter if voters Tweets ballot pics… stupid or not?’ Check it…

Laws against displaying your ballot are motivated by concerns about vote buying, since voters being bribed might need to be prove they voted a certain way.

– Lois Beckett, ProPublica

In other words, among other risks… folks could very well be Tweeting receipts of votes that have been BOUGHT by those who wish to BUY elections!

Bottom Line: Why risk it at all? JUST DON’T DO IT. Tweet a pic of your ‘I voted’ sticker instead… if you just gotta. Okay? Okay, don’t ranting.

READ THE FULL PROPUBLICA ARTICLE HERE.

Will Ferrell Will Do Anything To Get You To Vote For President Obama (Video)

Actor & comedian Will Ferrell never ceases to get more than a few laughs out of me even when dealing with situations as serious as this very close 2012 Presidential Election. Clearly President Barack Obama is the best candidate with a shot to win at this time in my opinion. It’s apparent that Will Ferrell feels the same & wants to make sure you laugh your ass to the polls on November 6th & re-elect the President for a 2nd term.

Comedy: Chris Rock – “Message To White Voters” (Video)

Chris Rock records and drops a ‘special message’ on Jimmy Kimmel Live: White voters, if you’re looking to vote for the white candidate, Barry is a guy you can trust…He’s whiter than Snooki, ‘The Tanning Mom,’ and Tara Reid! Hahahaaaa! So vote to re-elect ‘Barry’ (Barack) Obama for U.S. President. Also if you have time check out this interesting article below by Tom Scocca of SLATE.COM addressing why some white people will refuse to vote for Obama even against their own best interests.

Stephen Colbert Offers His Own ‘Ballsy’ Challenge To Donald Trump (Video)

By now, you’ve probably heard (and seen video) of Donald Trump’s challenge to Barack Obama: $5 million to any charity the President chooses IF he surrenders his passport and academic records for review by 5 PM on October 31, 2012. Mr. Trump says he will THEN be satisfied.

Well, on The Colbert Report, host Stephen Colbert issued a counter-challenge to Mr. Trump: $1 million to let him have the satisfaction of ‘dipping his balls’ in Mr. Trump’s mouth! Bwaaahhhaaahahahahahahaaaaa! Do it, Stephen. Put ’em in his mouuutthhhhh!

Hey… it’s for charity. And remember, Mr. Trump, it’s not polite to talk with your mouth full.

The ‘Internet Radio Fairness Act’ – A Win for Web Radio & Indie Music

The Internet Radio Fairness Act of 2012 is a bipartisan bill (e.g. proposed by team Democratic and Republican members of the U.S. Congress) set to level royalty rates for streaming online music; bringing what internet radio stations pay in line with what terrestrial (land-based local) broadcast stations pay to play music. Now, there are other elements of the bill that are important; but like most bills, the text is wordy and complex. I have done a bit of research, and here is what you need to know if you are an artist or have a stake in helping artists or internet radio stations.

‘This bipartisan bill will end royalty rate discrimination against internet radio and bring greater fairness to our industry. Today, the discrimination is extraordinary. In 2011, Pandora paid over 50% of revenues in performance royalties, while SiriusXM paid less than 10%. Internet radio brings millions of listeners back to music, plays the songs of tens of thousands of promising working artists, enabling them to build their audience while receiving fair compensation.’

– Get Amped Magazine

Plain and simple: Alongside noncommercial (college and community) radio stations, Internet radio stations have been welcoming independent artists’ music for years. The cheaper it is for them to spin, the greater the chance we all win. Good (e.g. NOT commercial) music in mass quantities. I’m in! Support this legislation y’all (House Bill HR 6480 and Senate Bill S 3609). Ask your Congressperson about it.

The Political Nightmare Scenario: A Romney-Biden White House

Okay, the U.S. Presidential debates are over. Now, American voters are left with a clear choice: the Obama-Biden ticket or the Romney-Ryan ticket… or maybe there will be a Romney-Biden administration.

Wait… WHAT????

That’s right. I was watching Current TV’s Viewpoint with Eliot Spitzer the other day, and host and former Governor Spitzer laid out a chilling doomsday scenario that could very well put Willard Mitt Romney (above, right) in the White House as U.S. Commander in Chief. However, instead of being joined by his Vice Presidential running mate (Paul Ryan), President Barack Obama’s Vice President Joe Biden (above, left) may be Romney’s second. Scared yet? Maybe. Confused? I was! Let me just share the highlights here.

‘If Mitt Romney continues picking up votes in the swing states, we are looking at the possibility that whichever way the popular vote goes, the Electoral College will give 269 votes to Gov. Romney and 269 votes to President Obama… If that happens, [t]he decision for the next president would get thrown to the House of Representatives, where each state gets just one vote apiece. [T]hat’s bad news for Obama. The underpopulated [Republican] states outnumber the overpopulated [Democratic] states. So… the president could be expected to lose. [However] the House doesn’t choose the vice president. That decision goes to the Senate, with a decision by a simple vote. The Senate is — and is expected to remain — Democratic.’

– Viewpoint with Eliot Spitzer, Current TV

So, in this scenario, that means Democrat Joe Biden would be the likely VP with a new boss (Republican Mitt Romney). Crazy right? Well, it is currently set up in the U.S. Constitution this way. Don’t let it come to that though. Take your a** to the polls (now, if your state offers early voting); and cast your vote!

For a more complete explanation, see the full ‘My View’ transcript for the October 19, 2012, broadcast in the Viewpoint blog at Current.com.

Politics: Conservative Economist Ben Stein Tells FOX News Taxes On The Wealthy Are ‘Too Low’ (VIDEO)

If anyone would endorse Fox News’s no-new-taxes stance, it would be well-known Conservative economist and friend of the Fox network Ben Stein, right? Probably in most cases… but truth is truth. And Stein declared, on Fox & Friends, that the truth is… we need MORE taxes to get the economy growing and reduce the national debt… especially on wealthier Americans’ incomes.

“I hate to say this on Fox — I hope I’ll be allowed to leave here alive — but I don’t think there is any way we can cut spending enough to make a meaningful difference,” said Stein. “Taxes are too low.”

– Harry Bradford, Huffington Post

Uh oh. Fox and the Conservatives cannot be happy about that commentary. I hope Fox and Stein can still be ‘friends’ after this. Hahaaaaa!

Politics/Comedy: Jon Stewart Calls Bullsh** on Paul Ryan’s Budget Plan (Video)

Trust them. Republican candidates for U.S. President and Vice President, former Governor Mitt Romney and Representative Paul Ryan, have a budget plan. What’s that? You want details and numbers? Come on, we don’t have time for them to explain his numbers. Just trust that Mr. Ryan has run them, and they are sound. Sound good?

Well, on The Daily Show, host Jon Stewart more than implied that that sounds… smells… like BULL-to-the-SHI… er… MALARKEY (as Vice President Joe Biden said)! Do you, American citizen, trust – without any disclosure or independent review of the numbers – that the Romney/Ryan budget will do all that they promise? DON’T! Take a lesson from history… and the video above.

(Oh, and by the way, ‘that guy’ did win. Watch the video.)

Former ‘Reading Rainbow’ Host Levar Burton Speaks on Romney’s Promise to Cut PBS Funding (Video)

Levar Burton is not alone in his outrage over U.S. Presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s debate declaration – that he would cut funding for the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) – but Burton went a step further in expressing it. Burton says it was, in effect, a declaration of war on underprivileged children!

On Soledad O’Brien‘s “Starting Point” (video from CNN above), Burton continued:

“I couldn’t believe the man actually fixed his mouth to say that. I interpreted it as an attack on children, Soledad…an attack on children who come from a disenfranchised, you know, background.”

To Burton, PBS shows, such as ‘Sesame Street,’ provide lower-income children with access to education and information that they normally wouldn’t have access to.

Now, I enjoy PBS programming; but I am a full-grown, educated, man. I can ‘do without.’ But when Burton focuses on the impact to children’s access to educational programming…well, it should give us all pause. Now, in the interest of fairness, see for yourself what Romney actually said the night of the first Presidential debate after the jump.
