Last Week Tonight: John Oliver And Michael Bolton Sing The Praises Of The IRS?
They say the only things that are certain are death and taxes. Correction: Death, taxes, and this Last Week Tonight “IRS” performance with host John Oliver and guest power balladeer Michael Bolton KILLING it!
Oh, and you know he has a point… Hate it or love it, John says we need the IRS. Do you agree? Watch.

Comedy Central’s Larry Wilmore On The Shooting Of Walter Scott ‘For The Record’ (Video)
The Nightly Show With Larry Wilmore slid right into The Colbert Report’s 11:30 PM Comedy Central slot. And doing so like a boss! Great tongue-in-cheek political satire. Gotta say though, Larry is starting with a lot more bite. Watch his do-you-see-this-sh!t commentary on cellphone video showing a South Carolina police officer (Michael Slager) fatally shooting an unarmed black man (Walter Scott) in the back.
“I’ll stop talking about this sh!t when it stops happening.”
– Larry Wilmore
Damn right. Damn shame. Damn.

John Oliver On Government Surveillance (Video)
Last Week Tonight With John Oliver is good TV (every Sunday night on the “Not Just TV” channel). Think about how funny dude was when he was a correspondent on The Daily Show With Jon Stewart. Now, take away the censoring Comedy Central puts on Stewart’s program. Dangerous! Sure the language is saucier; but the punch Oliver can deliver on his much freer HBO series lets him let loose on socio-political topics. On a recent episode of Last Week Tonight, John Oliver gave his tirade on government surveillance; which included a trip to Russia to talk to famed-and-in-hot-water-with-the-U.S.-government Edward Snowden. Google NSA and leaked documents if you need to catch up.
Content too heavy? Alright, they break it way down…all the way down to dick pics (o…kay… overshare).
Damon Dash Shares How He fights Custody Battle Without Lawyer (Video)
In interviews Damon Dash has been making the headlines for the topics he discusses. Â Some agree some don’t but most of the Blogs and Gossip sites love to use his words to stir traffic not really investigating his true talking points. Â Well Dr. Boyce Watkins has reached out to Dame Dash allowing him to discuss issues on his platform. Â This is not a pair of people you would expect to partner up but I am happy to see it. Â In this video Damon Dash explains how he is fighting for custody of his daughters without a lawyer. Â He gives some detailed facts on what fathers can and must do to see their children in custody battles. Â He is upfront with the fact that the courts will frustrate you but you must have patience and remember that your child is the ultimate prize. Â I am not saying that Damon Dash is who you should pattern your legal battles after but if you took the time to watch interviews with him yelling at someone how about watching a video where he is imploring men to fight to see their children legally!
MMA: The Underground Fighters Of Cuba (Video)
Fighting mixed martial arts in Cuba is not easy. Not just because MMA is demanding, or that life in Cuba is hard in many ways in general. It’s also hard because the fight is not just with the in-ring opponent; it’s with the government.
The Cuban government hasn’t legalized MMA for fear of losing its best boxers, so the fighters on coach Evelio Padron Ferrier’s team wrestle on concrete floors, use the ocean for endurance training, and practice techniques pulled from memory and bootlegged DVDs.
Nothing goes in or out of Cuba without facing obstacles. Freestyle fighting is no exception. Want to know more though? Follow VICE Fightland in to the den then.
Dr. Boyce Watkins talks Finance, Black Masculinity, Racism & More on The Breakfast Club (Video)
There has been a lot of talk about Black ownership and financial freedom sparked from the Damon Dash interview he did on The Breakfast Club. Â It set off a firestorm on social media some people being inspired and some comical moments with the hashtag #TweetLikeDameDash. Â With all of that said Dame brought up some good topics and Dr Boyce Watkins helped to bring some perspective to the conversation. Â He has a PhD in finance and owns his own business Financial Juneteenth. Â Dr Boyce discussed obstacles like Racism & White Supremacy that play a part in blacks becoming financially independent. Â He does not make excuses though and agrees with Dame Dash in regards to Black Men & Women having the be their own Boss mindset. Â Overall it is a great discussion between Angela Yee, Envy, Charlagmagne & Dr Boyce Watkins a breath of fresh air rather than mindless gossip talk.
Hidden Colors 4: The Religion of White Supremacy (Trailer)
Well when it comes to movies or documentaries about Black History a majority of them deal with the same Civil Rights struggle or blacks in slavery stories. Â Both are part of Black history but not the only story and the Hidden Colors documentary series has done a great job covering information/history. Â The first three have been critically acclaimed with subtitles like “The Triumph of Melanin” & “The Rules of Racism” with the latest installment titled “The Religion of White Supremacy” that should be released later this year. Â Tariq Nasheed the creator & director of the Hidden Colors series has already confirmed speakers like Dr. Umar Johnson, Dr. Francis Cress Welding & Phil Valentine who have all participated in the first three. Â He has promise some new speakers with this upcoming edition. Â If you watched Hidden Colors three you saw how he surprised us by having the rappers Nas & David Banner discussing Racism. Â Who know he might have them back and other surprise rappers. Â Here is a link to a kickstarter that he has for the funding of volume 4 Click Here.
Common ‘Keeps It 100’ on Black Women & Fatherhood on ‘The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore’ (Video)
Common recently appeared on the panel revolving around Black Fatherhood on ‘The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore’ that airs on Comedy Central. New York Times columnist Charles Blow, founder of the Center for URban Families Joe Jones and comedian Mike Yard also take part in this discussion that began with the simple statement that ’72 percent of black children are born to unwed mothers.’
Although they tackle serious issues in this discussion, things get hilariously uncomfortable fast as Larry poses questions about whether they’d play in the Super Bowl instead of witnessing the birth of their first child & their opinions on whether or not black women are too domineering in relationships. Check out more video from the discussion below……
The Daily Show’s Senior International Correspondent ‘Trevor Noah’ Reports On Boko Haram…Because Somebody Should! (Video)
Watching our posts from The Daily Show, you are probably familiar with the way Jon Stewart and his people dance along the fine line political satire – the one that separates comedy and tragedy. Trevor Noah (repeat ‘contributing reporter’) files this report on happenings in Boko Haram – with an all but in-your-face jab at the West’s lack of media coverage of such.
“Africa Is The Vegas of Islamic Terror: What Happens In Africa Stays In Africaâ€
That’s the punchline of the night, but you can tell that the audience was struggling to find it’s funny bone. Is it that we are that under-informed… or insensitive… or desensitized… or suffering that much from an attention deficit disorder, being crippled by news media currently chasing down leads on ‘deflated balls’ in the NFL or…
Yes… yes… okay dammit… YES!
Watch this report. We have to get our political and current affairs news from somewhere… even if Comedy Central is in the lead reporting it… AGAIN!
The 15 Project By ‘Fahamu Pecou’ at the ‘High Museum Of Art’ (Video)
Fahamu Pecou is an Artist, Scholar, Father, oh and he is also known as THE SHIT! He recently had another edition of his Artist Live Talk Show The 15Project (Andy Warhol was famously quoted as saying “…in the future, everyone will be famous for 15 minutes.â€) The 15 Project facilitates that claim as an irreverent fusion of pop culture, fine art, sketch comedy, musical entertainment and much more. The show was co hosted by Fabian Williams with DJ Kemit on the 1’s & 2’s and this went down at the renown High Museum. “We are being faced with economic annihilation!”
Wow! Anybody not awake yet? Well, wake them up and make sure they don’t miss this @ArtByOdell recommended documentary. It’s not about lack of jobs. It’s about lack of control. And even in Washington DC, almost half the populous has neither. Well, there’s that one Black man in DC with a job on Pennsylvania Avenue. But if you aren’t living where he is, you will probably get something from watching this documentary.

Miss Africa Greece Beauty Pageant (Video)
Very interesting. Okay, we’ll take this Eye Candy lunchtime thing in a different direction for second. Check this VICE story out.
VICE Greece discovered a beauty pageant focused on celebrating the identity of African women living in Athens. We linked up to talk to them about what its like to deal with racism in modern Greece.
Baked Alaska (Documentary)
It all started with “…f#ck it I quit.”
Never thought a weed head would say that, did ya? Hahaaa! True, Charlo Greene did not quit her relationship with Mary Jane. In fact, she started (actually, kicked into overdrive) a public debate/campaign for Alaska’s legalization of marijuana. She had to quit her job as a television reporter to do it…
…or did she? Her quitting was a media and viral video score for her cause (good PR strategy).
On November 4, 2014, the state of Alaska was faced with a ballot measure to potentially make recreational marijuana legal. In this episode of Weediquette, we follow democracy in action through the eyes of Charlo Greene.
Greene became the firebrand folk hero of the “Yes on 2” movement after she famously quit her job as a news reporter on the air to run a cannabis club. VICE travels to Alaska to follow Charlo, and along the way we meet a cast of Alaskan natives who all have something at stake in this election.

Ferguson: The ‘Saturday Night Live’ Sketch You Didn’t Get To See (Video)
A St. Louis news station reconsiders its morning programming in light of the Ferguson riots.
In the ‘Saturday Night Live’ sketch above, two St. Louis TV news anchors (Kenan Thompson and Cecily Strong) struggle through their Rise and Smile morning show broadcast, as Ferguson protests continue. Biting stuff… BUT… it got cut. Why? We’ll let you think on that…

Smart Policing: When San Francisco Stopped Prosecuting Drug Users Violent Crime Went Down (Video)
San Fran is applying a radical strategy…LOGIC! By disbanding various drug task forces and allowing those cops to pursue and thwart violent offenders instead of wasting their efforts just locking up drug users. And their approaches seem to be working to reduce violent crime and free up police to chase real criminals…
“I’m a narc. I’ve been a narcotics guy forever,” says San Francisco police chief Greg Suhr. “But I’m just telling you, I’ve always felt bad for the people that were addicted to drugs.”
Suhr’s compassion translates into policy that works to the benefit of folks he pities (by not criminalizing them). And it has also let him fight a war on two fronts since 2007; crime, on the one hand… in the face of deep recession-driven budget cuts on the other.
“Not trying to just keep a stat game going on arresting people for narcotics has not hurt us in trying to achieve our goal in trying to make San Franciso safest,” says Suhr.
Interesting.
Stephen Colbert: U-S-A! U-S-A! America’s Number One In The World… At Locking People Up (Video)
Soaking up all the Stephen Colbert cleverness – Tonight’s Word – on Comedy Central before he makes the leap from cable to big network TV (CBS’ Late Night With David Letterman’s replacement). The tongue-in-cheek ‘conservative’ pundit declares America is still Number 1 … in the number of people the country incarcerates (“in your face, China”)! He zeroes in on California’s prisons; but there is enough comedic jabbing for lots more in America to feel the King Of [Sarcastic] Sting.
