Bryant Gumbel Speaks On His Son Being Victimized By ‘Blue on Black’ Crime (Video)

For as far back as I can remember, I have stood on the ‘Blackness’ of Bryant Gumbel. Time was, back in the day (on NBC), folks thought he was a sellout or out of touch with his community (calling him way worse). His harder-hitting stances and tenure on HBO Real Sports have given him the Bryant-don’t-play-that edge that has backed haters off a bit over the years; but still, some folks were still playing him like he wasn’t Black enough.
Any haters out there left, eat it! Sh!t or d!ck, you choose. Mr. Gumbel is one of us who can articulate the struggle ALL people of color face in this life…from a personal point of view. Watch him speak on it; relating events that included cops victimizing his son.

Sandra Bland: How Did An Improper Turn Signal Lead to Her Death? (Video)

Recently the country has had their eyes on Texas yet again for another encounter of cops and the treatment of Black Women. Â A couple months back there was the incident of cops in McKinney TX violently attacking young black children and a young sista was slammed to the ground and sat on by a Race Soldier I mean officer of the law. Â Now in Waller County, TX the sad story of Sandra Bland who was found dead in her jail cell after she was arrested for a turn signal violation. Â The local cops have claimed it is suicide but the Bland family disagrees and thinks their is foul play. Â A lot of people across the country thought the same especially since Sandra Bland was an outgoing 28 year old who just landed her dream job at her alma mater Prairie View A&M University. Â That doesn’t strike me as someone who wants to kill themselves over a traffic stop. Â Dr Boyce Watkins uses his platform to speak on this topic and invites Yvette Carnell founder of ( BreakingBrown.com ) & Benjamin Dixon ( TheBenjaminDixonShow.com ) to join him and go deeper into this incident and what it represents. Â The sad reality is this traffic stop led to this woman’s death and the officer who is paid to protect and serve did his part to ignite confrontation. Swizz Beatz & Friends Show 100,000+ Fans And The World ‘I Love Haiti’ (Video)

A little footage (above) and a few pictures (after the jump) to show Hip-Hop having big heart! Shout to the people of Haiti. Earthquakes & the thievery related to relief efforts, ethnic cleansing & racism in the Dominican Republic, persistent poverty and despair… and still the people of Haiti push through. That’s real.
That said, it’s only right to shine a light on artists who try to bring a little light into dark times for a people. Haiti’s Big O Productions brought multi-platinum artists Swizz Beatz (who partnered with Martelly to make this happen), Chris Brown, and Lil Wayne to join Haitian Artists T-Micky and Barikad Crew in Port-au-Prince to present a FREE six-hour concert event for the over 100,000 people that attended. Actress/Model Kate Upton, Haitian-American boxer Andre Berto and Def Jam records exec Bu Thiam were also in attendance.
“This was a very humbling experience,†said Swizz Beatz following the concert. “To see the number of Haitians come out during a time like this was amazing…. The energy was perfect.â€

The Red Cross Raised $500 Million Dollars For Haiti Earthquake Relief But Only Built 6 Homes (Video)

We are all aware of the tragedy of the 2010 Earthquake that hit Haiti and ravaged the country.  The relief funds started to pop up everywhere  and one of the main organizations waiving the flag was the Red Cross.  The organization raised around $500 Million dollars to help rebuild Haiti.  A recent NPR report though has shown that the Red Cross has only built 6 new permanent homes with all of that money.  So this has people asking where did the money go?  Yvette Carnell of BreakingBrown.com along with Ben Dixon speak about what happened and the controversy surrounding this.  Here is a link to the full NPR Report that details more on this headline.

Kendrick Lamar Recognized as A ‘Generational Icon’ on the California State Senate Floor (Video)

Well Kendrick Lamar continues to win in 2015. Â His critically acclaimed album “To Pimp A Butterfly” is selling like Rap albums did back in the 90’s and has helped to reinvigorate the conversation about doing a complete work rather than just catchy singles. Â Now add to the list he has been recognized as a “Generational Icon” by the California Senate and was awarded on the Senate floor. Â This was organized by fellow Compton native Sen. Isadore Hall III who introduced Kendrick to the Senate Floor and presented the award. Â Kendrick along with his fiancee Whitney Alford were there to accept the award and thank the Senate for the distinguished honor.

Mass destruction, cars being flipped over, store fronts having their windows smashed from rocks being thrown. Â Couches being burned with street lights being torn down and people brawling in the middle of the street. Â This by definition would be described as Thug action, menace behavior destructive to American culture. Â Well all of these things have happened after Kentucky college basketball team lost, a pumpkin festival in California, and any major city after a sports team wins a championship. Â The funny thing is the media will describe this as mischievious behavior kids being kids. Â While the actions that have taken place in Baltimore uprising and previously in Ferguson the same American citizens are labeled as Thugs, Criminals with destructive behavior. Â One big difference the first group is white and the second black which makes all the difference dealing with Media. “Resurrecting Black Wall Street” (Trailer)

The term “Black Wall Street” has been thrown around by a lot of rappers from time to time. The reality is the term Black Wall Street speaks to the amazing times of Black Prosperity in Tulsa Oklahoma in the 1920’s. The Greenwood neighborhood located in Tulsa had a number of Black doctors, dentists, bankers, and business owners. They spent money amongst themselves had their own bus companies and were doing better than most of the whites in Tulsa. It all came to a crashing bloody ending when false accusations were made regarding a white woman saying she was attacked by black men from the neighborhood. This led to the first time the US government bombed it’s own people yes you read that correctly the Feds dropped a bomb and destroyed the neighborhood. If you didn’t know the GAP Band is from Tulsa, OK one of their famous songs is “You dropped the Bomb on me” and you thought that was just talking about the ladies.

At HuffPost Live mainly to promote his book “Diary of a Madman,” Face gets into other topics as guided by interviewer Marc Lamont Hill. You know, Scarface (born Brad Jordan) makes some enlightened points here. And some in an impassioned way. But even when using his outside voice inside, truth is truth. Hear him speak on, among other things, police brutality.
Most interesting: FaceMob KNOWS his ‘mob’ (his people, his fans) will ride – just because he says to when he says. And instead of taking the not-a-role-model stance, he refrained from saying what he really wanted done about police abusing their power. Plus, it was smart not to ‘scare away’ potential readers of his book by getting too real to fast (e.g. let them get shocked…later…by reading the book).

Jon Stewart Calling Bullsh!t On Media’s Baltimore Protest Coverage: ‘Kids Blowing Off Steam’ Versus ‘Urban Kids Rioting’ (Video)

This episode of The Daily Show, hosted Jon Stewart, takes some funny-but-true shots at CNN and Wolf Blitzer’s coverage of ongoing protests and riots in Baltimore. Blitzer said the events there are “unbelievable†and never-before-seen…Really? What about the RECENT events in Ferguson? And unbelievable? C’mon… college kids do much damage after big games. Of course, the Baltimore situation is not a game; and indeed there is more to the outbursts in Baltimore (if only the news would cover it).
The heavier coverage of the annual White House Correspondents’ Dinner compared to the riots in Baltimore (sparked by the death of 25-year-old Freddie Gray, who died days after suffering a spinal cord injury while in police custody) was more than fair. The governor calling in the National Guard, properties and cars were set on fire citywide…all less than an hour’s drive away??? Yeah, CNN [and Today Show and other news media], you’re slipping. And blowing on the flames on the fires now, to keep your ratings stoked, instead of fanning out and covering the fullness of the story (including root causes like poverty, lack of economic opportunity in the community, issues related to youth disenfranchisement) is not helping.

That White House Correspondents’ Dinner we just posted on? Yeah… Killer Mike was there. The man is up on his politics to say the least. He also lectured at The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) as part of the university’s ‘Hip-Hop Speaker’ Series. Intelligent discourse at one of America’s well-known gatherings of advanced thinkers. Killer Kill has always spoken up (and well) on issues regarding Hip-Hop politics and humanity. APB: “Artists Against Police Brutality” Comic Book (Artwork)

A comic book titled APB: “Against Police Brutality” detailing Police Brutality is being put together by Rosarium Publishing. Â Submissions for the project are still being submitted but Artist Ashley A. Woods has been released and it is a telling much needed piece. Â The Artist/Illustrator hailing from Chicago created a touching memoriam piece that features Eric Garner, Michael Brown, Tamir Rice, Aiyana Stanley-Jones, Amadou Diallo, Cary Ball Jr, John Crawford, Miriam Carey, Rekia Boyd, Tanisha Anderson, and Yvette Smith. Â Sadly all of these Black men and women were killed by Police officers and with all of the unrest going on in Baltimore this looks like something that will continue.

This is classic!! America’s media pretty much has carte blanche in matters of merrymaking at The President’s expense. But imagine a comedy schtick that the President is actually in on! President Obama makes humorous remarks at the annual dinner of the White House Correspondents’ Association (WHCA) every year, sure. But this year, he “borrows” Keegan Michael Key (of Comedy Central’s “Key and Peele”) to do his ‘Luther’ thing for some over-the-top hilarity. Journalists, politicians and celebrities at the dinner seemed to cheer as Key steps to the podium about as loud as you’d expect they would for The President. The routine the duo does is subdued (sorta) but what Key and President Obama pull off here… Well, this ought to show up in somebody’s history book! Enjoy.

Wilmore has been doing a great job with topic AND guest selection. Interesting perspectives on snitching; and more interesting, the poster child for the ‘No Snitching’ movement – Killa Cam – is there to weigh in.
