Black Star Addresses ‘Palestinian Freedom’ On Stage and Backstage (Video)
During Black Star’s performance in Los Angeles on September 22nd, 2012, Talib Kweli and Yasiin Bey (formerly known as Mos Def) diverted from the original lyrics of “RE: DEFinition” and chose to rap in unison, “Let’s get free just like the Palestinians!” After the show, Yasiin spoke candidly (albeit carefully) about the significance of the lyric change and Black Star’s stance on justice and peace in Palestine; and elsewhere for all people.
We’ll leave further interpretations and implications for the lyric change to you, the reader. For reference, eLyrics and RapGenius both document the original lyric in “RE:Definition” going like:
Son I’m way past the minimum, it’s a verb millennium
My rap’s hold a gat to your back, like Palestinians

Maaannn! The NANDA acrobatic team in this video… went IN! Slow motion martial arts styled fighting sketch – with an an emphasis on ART! Matrix style – no rope teams, no special effects… just DOPENESSSS! THIS is what I love about outdoor festivals. Artists about their craft entertaining the people who show up and show love. Looked like a fun performance. Now, click play and prepare to go WOWWWW!
