DJ Premier On The State Of New York Rap (Video)

Preemo ONLY plays the bangers! That’s his lane, and it is not for the wack. And he is DEFINITELY qualified to be a gatekeeper for real Hip-Hop. To be clear, DJ Premier is not hating on that artist you like, but if he or she is wack… Oh well.

That sounds harsh. Preem explains it better. How he has always been, what he is into nowadays and more in the sit-down above.

A documentary with Jay Z and Nas is in the works, and DJ Premier also has a solo album—‘Last Session at 320’—on the way. He also discusses Desiigner, Dave East, Young M.A., and how he’s stayed relevant for multiple decades.

How Much Land Would It Take To Power The Entire USA With Solar Energy? (Video)

Hmmm… Solar-powered America for all… laid out plain and simple. Of course, none of this is as plain or simple as the video implies. But I like how it defies any doubters of the concept’s doability. The U.S. made it to the moon (or convinced the world it did, for any alternative history theorists out there) in seven years once President Kennedy set the country’s direction & ambitions toward the goal. This can be done!

But will it be?

Cuba’s Generational Divide (Documentary Short Film)

Incredible video expo… and incredibly short. Maybe ongoing interest will drive development of a fuller doc or short. The impact of the life, and recent passing, of Cuban revolutionary dictator Fidel Castro can be debated from various angles including regional vs. global and overall positive vs. overall negative. But we do know there was an impact, and it apparently resonates throughout the ages.

Case in point: Above you see three generations of Black Cubans – Esperanza Caridad Martinez (Grandmother), Margarita Beatriz Nicholas (Daughter), and Leyssy O’Farrill Nicholas (Granddaughter) speak on three views of Cuba; in effect, Castro’s legacy. Thing about it is that while the views could have (and maybe has already) sparked fiery discourse among them, the discourse is very calm and deliberate. Each generation speaking on what they know and feel about living in Cuba and prospects for Black Cubans like them moving forward there and abroad. But what’ll really get you at the end… is that one tear Grandma shed for her Leyssy. Whether or not Leyssy has what it takes to eat off her art (caution: NOT a given, anywhere) by leaving, she ought to know she has LOVE in Cuba. 100,000%.

Host Trevor Noah Has An Intense Discussion With Outspoken Internet Conservative Tomi Lahren On ‘The Daily Show’ (Video)

Taking a different angle for the noon hour today. Tomi Lahren is cute. No doubt. But her views, well, we may not see eye-to-eye a lot. And though I play the horndog on here, I care about what people say…even the beautiful people I ogle. To be clear, all views matter. We have to listen and try to understand. We cannot even have a good argument if we are not understanding who and what we are fighting. And eventually, we are going to have to find a way to get along.

Trevor Noah gets at her in the clip above, but not in an angry way. Tomi talks about her views, not too angry either. In the end, the convo comes out about the same as when Jon Stewart was running ‘The Daily Show’ and would have uber-Conservative frienemy Bill O’Reilly on there. Give it to Trevor: He won with that ‘Why so angry, Tomi?’ approach. Take a look/listen.

(Tomi Lahren. Her name makes me think of Jim Lehrer from PBS NewsHour back in the day. Maybe it’s because I want to her to move at least a bit closer to center.)

Maj Toure Celebrates Trump’s Election A Victory For 2nd Amendment Rights (Video)

Southern hospitality. Nice place for gun owners. Comparing the gun range he visited to a Whole Foods. Even openly embracing gun owner education and those who came out to learn. All good things. But in the midst, Maj Toure threw this in about his recent Georgia visit in the video clip above…

Folks from Bankhead, Vine City. I mean the worst parts of Atlanta came through.

Errr…Could have done without that. And wow, the solid backing of President-Elect Donald Trump (defending his rep against liberal media bias). Might be a bit much for a liberal listener. But listen and watch. See how Maj Toure and Colion Noir frame this past election, Trump’s win, a victory for the 2nd Amendment… um… positively.

An interview for NRA TV. Yep, that NRA. And check out what the organization’s head honcho had to say about President-Elect Trump’s glorious victory after the jump.

Jon Stewart Speaks On President-Elect Donald Trump, What Makes America Great And More (Video)

Really poignant insights from Jon Stewart. Par for the course for him, even though we hear less from Stewart now that he is no longer in front of the camera. Gotta change that somehow. Jon’s voice, especially in this clip, really helps us make sense of things.

After Jon Stewart left “The Daily Show” last summer, much of the Presidential campaign went on without his unique and satirical point of view. Charlie Rose met with Stewart to discuss his new book about the more than 16 years he spent at the Comedy Central program. Stewart was quick to give his post-election analysis.

Trump’s the President. He won. I’ll be okay. So will you. It won’t be easy, but neither is America. Jon puts it into perspective. Watch.

Comedy: Stephen Colbert Says, “Don’t Move To Canada Just Yet!” (Video)

File this under laugh-to-keep-from-crying. But it is actually funny. Classic Colbert. It’s actually a monologue of hope… as America is on the verge of being made ‘great again.’ Like it or not, Donald J. Trump is the President Elect. But hey, this is what many American voters wanted. And the rest of us… we will endure. Together. We must! So don’t go running for border, eh. Stay.

Sure, they’ve got free healthcare up there. But being an American citizen is like family: you’re in it whether you like it or not.

Watch and take heart, Colbert Nation. We will be okay.

How Do ‘Real’ Doctors Feel About Chiropractors? (Video)

Aha! Thought the doc was gonna take shots or throw shade, huh? Actually, there is something very much aligned (get it?) with Hip-Hop culture in what the doc expresses about chiropractors’ place in the spine care spectrum: As long as (1) you are seeing a TRAINED PROFESSIONAL that is (2) providing VALUE and/or relief, it’s all good. In the lingo, if they have nice skills and delivery it’s all good!

NYU Langone Spine Center Co-Director Dr. Anthony Frempong-Boadu sat down with Tech Insider to talk about spine health, and gave his honest opinion about working with chiropractors. As with choosing any doctor, it’s smart to do your research and find someone who can truly help you.

Think Baseball Games Are Too Long? So Does MLB (Video)

Baseball. If you’re a fan, you love it; including all its imperfections… the duration of the game, the pace, the lack of action, etc. But those things will have to be fixed to attract new fans; fans that are not currently ‘into’ the sport. Major League Baseball (MLB) knows. Vox knows. And now there’s a video to let us know. All that’s left is to right the ship or write the sport off as America’s Pastime.

MLB games are now longer than epic movies, but it wasn’t always that way.

Technology: Google Maps ‘Timeline’ Setting Tracks Your Every Move (Video)

“When turned on” huh… and you can just ‘turn it off’ huh? Yeah, right. THIS is why I am not cracking when y’all crack on my ‘dumb phone’ though. Mind your biz, Google, not mine! No ‘Timeline’ on me. Thiz shiz right here…

There’s a setting in your Google account, which — when turned on — creates a record of everywhere you go and when you went there. It’s intended to make your Google Maps experience more useful, like providing a faster commute to work or home. In 2015, the company also started rolling out another feature called “Timeline,” which lets you easily view this information on a private, customizable map of your every move. Here’s how to access it and turn it off in case it creeps you out.
– Tech Insider

Ha! ‘Private’ or not (read: not), Google can (read: is) generating a “customizable map of your every move.” Yeeeeaaah, um, I know where I’ve been. I’m cool, Google. But thanks for offering. File this under ‘just because you can do a thing does not mean you should.’

Jesse Ventura Salutes Colin Kaeperkick’s National Anthem Protest (Video)

Former governor of Minnesota and veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces, Jesse Ventura, speaks on the Colin Kaepernick controversy above. Some will be surprised at what he has to say. But most who know Ventura will think, “Yeah.”

We asked the former Navy SEAL what he thought about San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick’s decision to protest during the national anthem by taking a knee.

Yeah. Hell yeah! So there is one of your so-called disrespected soldiers ‘Murica. Ventura fought for our right to protest; to take a stand. Or in Kaepernick’s case, a knee. Watch.

Meet the Lawyer Who Defends Anonymous (Video)

Sure, everyone knows of the hacktivists glamorized in the media for taking on ‘the powers that be’ all Matrix style. DemocracyNow Presents: Michael Eric Dyson vs. Eddie Glaude, Race, Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama’s Presidency And More (Video)

Great interview (slash moderated debate-type discussion) featuring Eddie Glaude and Michael Eric Dyson by DemocracyNow. Strap in for some informative, intellectual exploration of approaches to the Democratic platform, President Obama’s actions and legacy, Former Secretary and Presidential candidate Clinton’s past and anticipated actions should she ascend to U.S. Commander-In-Chief, and SO MUCH MORE!

On Wednesday night, President Obama addressed the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia and implored the nation to vote for Hillary Clinton. As Obama seeks to pass the torch to his Secretary Of State, we host a debate on Hillary Clinton, her rival Donald Trump and President Obama’s legacy between Princeton University professor Eddie Glaude and Georgetown University professor Michael Eric Dyson. Glaude’s most recent book is “Democracy in Black: How Race Still Enslaves the American Soul,” and he recently wrote an article for Time magazine headlined “My Democratic Problem with Voting for Hillary Clinton.” Dyson is the author of “The Black Presidency: Barack Obama and the Politics of Race in America” and wrote a cover article for the New Republic titled, “Yes She Can: Why Hillary Clinton Will Do More for Black People Than Obama.”

Of the two, I agree with Eddie Glaude. Just getting that out there.

Pre-Recorded Message From Baton Rouge Police Shooter Gavin Long (Video)

Folks who rail against the #BlackLivesMatter movement have tried to tie it to Baton Rouge police shooter Gavin Long (aka Cosmo Setepenra). But… big BUT… watch the video above. Long declared that the protests and words were NOT enough for him. The #BlackLivesMatter movement is a NONVIOLENT one. Do NOT let others rewrite the narrative. Agree or disagree with what he is saying, or what he did (and died doing), everyone MUST realize that his actions were NOT in keeping with anything #BlackLivesMatter has done or stood for.

Fearmongers might have you (or the police who will be present) believe differently. That’s DANGEROUS. They may well be inclined to spread propaganda that puts future demonstrators in danger. True, demonstrators may ‘break the law’… Drs. King, Abernathy, Lowery, Lafayette and others certainly broke the law of the land back in the day. The laws were unjust. They were CIVIL in their disobedience of the law. And, yet, they were beaten. Some who would stand with them lost their lives! Being civil, but still abused or worse.

So don’t think for one moment that folks seeing this Long video, recorded days before his shootout with police, won’t make a ‘leap’ and treat #BlackLivesMatter demonstrators like ‘terrorists’ (like they are already saying). Be careful. These are dangerous times for everyone.

(Goes without saying, but must be said: See what happens when folks are pushed too far? Bill Maher already alluded that he expected sh!t to hit the fan like in Baton Rouge and Dallas MUCH earlier.)

Dr. Umar Johnson Speaks On Crises Facing Black Americans, Offers Strong Criticism Of President Barack Obama And More (Video)

Straight with no chaser. Count on Dr. Johnson, agree with him or not, to deliver his points plainly and with passion. Lays out the how and why Black people have come to suffer in America the way they do. Also speaks on why our protests, though necessary, have not effected real change.

Dr. Umar Johnson stops by The Breakfast Club to discuss the growing social issues affecting the African American community. Dr. Johnson believes that before we can fix the problem we really have to understand it. He is very critical of President Obama for not doing anything for the Black community and offers a few theories as to why he has not done so.

The talk of ‘the illusion of inclusion’… powerful! All of it in fact. Lean in and listen up.
