The Hurt Business (Documentary Trailer)

From the producers of Bowling for Columbine, Fahrenheit 9/11 and Generation Iron, THE HURT BUSINESS details the lives of various martial arts superstars, including Ronda Rousey and Jon Jones, competing in the fastest growing sport in the world and the struggles and triumphs that accompany all careers in cage fighting.

Besides featuring both legends, such as Georges St-Pierre, and up-and-comers in the sport the film covers the history of mixed martial arts fighting, from the coliseums of ancient Greece to modern day venues such as the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, all expertly narrated by Kevin Costner.

Themes of injury both mental and physical are explored and the question is raised; is it worth it to sacrifice one’s mind and body for sport?

Surely, you’ve heard of the ‘school-to-prison pipeline.’ Officers in classrooms, abundant and extreme zero-tolerance policies, Black students way more likely to be disciplined. In effect, our children are being set up, prepared even, to go to prison at some point. And it all starts in preschool. Watch the clip explaining it above. To get deeper in depth, check out Vox’s full write-up (linked below).

Baboons In The Office… And All Over The Internet (Video)

These folks NAILED it with these baboon gifs so long before there was a Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, etc. on which to share them. Baboons are already strikingly close to humans in their mannerisms, making them good fodder for all kinds of funny. But that ‘uploaded resume’ laptop shove gif… EVERYBODY knows and/or has felt that one. Hahaaaa!

Hear from the geniuses that started the trend before ‘trending’ was a thing.

(The Harts are surprisingly good-natured about missing out on all that licensing paper, too. Good clip.)

Is There A Link Between Former Toronto Mayor And The Dixon City Bloods? (Documentary)

As usual, VICE asks the toughest questions: Does the gang involved in the Rob Ford crack scandal actually exist? There is a neighborhood called Dixon. Truth. In 2013, police raided the area; alleging that a street gang called the “Dixon City Bloods” was responsible for crack and gun operations across southern Ontario. Facts. Several alleged gang members appeared in a photo with the former Toronto mayor, and the group released video that ignited his notorious crack scandal. And here we are…

But where are we for real? Can the gun violence, gang activity, street players’ moves, and media and police reports actually tie together in a substantial way; one that signifies a true criminal organization?

VICE investigates.

Build And Destroy: A Short History Of The Development Of The U.S. Highway System (Mini-Documentary)

A steady diet of VICE and Vox in your online reading and viewing can do real wonders for your perspective. Facts. Probably why we share their insights so often here. Check this short doc telling a different story behind the story of the development of the U.S. highway system. Sure you have to destroy to rebuild – a roadway to connect major cities, that allow fast traversal of the country in times of crisis – but we wouldn’t destroy neighborhoods to do it… not longstanding vibrant Black communities while preserving privileged White ones… on purpose… would we?

Yeah? Watch.

Maybe even check out Wikipedia to jumpstart a subsequent learning journey on highways. Key word parts: start and journey. DON’T let a quick Wiki run be the end of it. And make sure YOU drive your discovery!

Then what in the fudge-flavored candy is this???

Did the TV camera catch a time traveler or something? Could smartphone tech have been introduced from the future?

Watch.
