R&B/Jazz: Tensei – “Black Gold” (Instrumental)
Chicago based production duo Tensei hits listeners with a barrage of instrumentation for their latest production. Seems to work though. Listen to the producers’ work – “Black Gold” – below. I’m really diggin’ this joint right here.
Freddie Joachim – “No Matter What” (Instrumental)
Freddie Joachim samples Common – to put the cherry on top – in creating this flavorful dish he calls “No Matter What.”
Evidence – “Self Taught” (Instrumental)
Evidence (of Dilated Peoples) leaks “Self Taught” off the upcoming release, “Green Tape Instrumentals” (due out June 25, 2013).
Ta-ku – “Boom”
DJ Rasta Root – “4649 Worldwide Hip Hop” (ATL Mix)
Japanese graphic/clothing designer Yumi Sakaki (of 4649 Worldwide Clothing and Graphic Design) and Atlanta producer DJ Rasta Root collaborated on this “4649 Worldwide Hip Hop” (ATL Mix) project.
‘I always felt that my duty as a DJ was to break new music and support artists in my hometown scene. This project was the perfect opportunity to do that. I decided to do a mix with all Atlanta artists that have, in my opinion, been working hard at their craft and deserve to be recognized. This project with 4649 Worldwide has allowed the opportunity to showcase some of Atlanta’s rising stars who I respect as individuals and as artists.’
Fifty minutes of mix. Zero minutes of talk. All FREE! All good.
House Shoes – “The Gift Volume Two: DertBeats”
“The Gift” is House Shoes’ mixtape series in which he spotlights underrecognized producers and artists. Each volume is a collection of Bandcamp/Soundcloud cuts re-released to give them another chance to reach their full potential audience. “The Gift Volume Two” features DertBeats.
‘Los Angeles based cat who actually produced an entire album for KRS-ONE a few years back. I have been beating the shit outta his flip of Pink Floyd’s “Money†for like 4-5 years now…’

Tall Black Guy – “For The Breakdancers” (Therapy Chop 115)
Finally! Something for the B-Boys and B-Girls… some George Duke! Haha. But seriously though, Tall Black Guy worked reinterpreted Duke’s “Inner Source” in a way that heads can definitely rock with. Check it out: It’s “For The Breakdancers” (Therapy Chop 115).
TenLittleRabbits – “Kaze” (Instrumental)
TenLittleRabbits is a laidback eclectic in the classic sense. A beatsmith taking dusty tracks into the new era, but not making much ado about himself. Rather, he is letting the music speak. His Facebook page… simple, clean. His BandCamp site…giving an open invitation to build. Stream/download something cool TenLittleRabbits’ “Kaze.”

‘Dusty ass kid who likes to make beats and sh!t. Hit me up if you wanna collab or just talk about food or something.’ – TenLittleRabbits via BandCamp

Black Milk x Pen – “Computer Ugly Ugly/Why Worry”
“Computer Ugly Ugly/Why Worry” is a quick slick blend from Black Milk’s “Synth Or Soul” instrumental project (due out April 20, 2013) – first of the instrumental/art series Fuzz, Freqs & Colors (FFC). FFC is the first project launched by the new creative house Computer Ugly. You can listen to the blend and pre-order the full-length below.
Interesting music born from an interesting process – each volume starts with producer Black Milk and illustrator Upendo “Pen†Taylor (Nike, Leroy Jenkins, Gatorade) trading beats and sketches and refining their works along the way (e.g. the music is shaped by the visual art and the visual art is shaped by the music).

Lex Boogie x Goldi Gold – “Sharks In The Golden Pond” (EP)
I had dope producer Lex Boogie & the outstanding visual artist Goldi Gold to speak on their collaborative instrumental project “Sharks In The Golden Pond” last Saturday during The Beatz & Lyrics Show. We’ll have audio of that interview posted very soon, but listen, download, & check out a brief synopsis of the project below….
“Conceptually the project can best be described as a ‘visual instrumental’. Lex Boogie from the Bronx, known for his soulfully, raw, Boom bap, , drum kicks and snares hails from his name sake, the boogie down Bronx. Artist Goldi gold best known for his staple life like, one of a kind graphic illustrations hails from New Jersey. When the two got together in Atlanta they immediately saw the value in each others work and shared a similar work ethic. The project maybe the perfect instrument to take you from the freeze of this past winter to the unpredictability of the Spring. Collaboratively this project is symbolic to the drive and vision of these two talented Hip Hop heads.”

Tall Black Guy – “Make Life Better” (Night’s Over Egypt Re-Blap Up)
Detroit producer Tall Black Guy has consistently been killing it with his souful productions & bounce worthy remixes. This time around he takes The Jones Girls R&B classic “Nights Over Egypt” & chefs it up differently with his own production spices & serves the fans his very own ‘Night’s Over Egypt Re-Blap Up’ remix of sorts. Straight vibin’ to this fiyah right here. I’ve played this joint about 5 times in a row after initially hearing it. Dopeness…
AraabMUZIK – The Prince Is Coming (Video)
Every since he dropped it I’ve been working out to AraabMUZIK’s instrumental album “For Professional Use Only” being motivated only by the beats. One of my tracks on the project is ‘The Prince Is Coming’ which I mentioned in a previous post felt like I could have listened to this during my trip to Dubai. Upon first listen I knew the instrumental track had a strong cinematic feel so it was a surprise to me that AraabMUZIK decided to drop this brand new Tilla directed video for it. Great minds think alike….
“The storyline spans three different time periods, past, present, and future and follows the mysterious entity known as “8″ who transcends them all. During a live performance, Araab zones out and finds himself in the middle of an epic battle between good and evil, which only the music can free him.” – HHNM

Illastrate – “Henny Loggins Show” (EP)
Atlanta based producer Illastrate is one of ‘illest’ producers who’s been consistently releasing quality product on the low for a while now. His masterful & often soulful production credits continues to grow albeit rather quietly to the larger mainstream audiences. As much as he’s known throughout the Atlanta true school & soul scene for his tracks he’s almost equally known amongst those in the know for the wild alter-egos he employs such as “Hoodie Allen” & of course his latest alias inspired by songwriter Kenny Loggins & his love for Hennessy to become “Henny Loggins”. Wasn’t surprised when he chose the latest moniker for ‘SEASON 1’ as the title of the new project series featuring artists Ekundayo, Boog Brown, Stanza, Mike Flo, Yamin Semali, Arablak, & more. If you just want to vibe out to his dope tracks minus all the vocals, Illastrate also provided an instrumental version of the project as well. Listen or download the joints below….

AraabMUZIK – The Prince Is Coming
Providence DJ and beat monster AraabMuzic (born Abraham Orellana) leaks the first single – “The Prince Is Coming†– from his forthcoming mixtape “For Professional Use Only†(due out February 15, 2013). This joint is a certified banger & I always expect nothing less than the best from this producer. The track reminds me of my first trip to Dubai last year. I could have used this track in my iphone when I touched down in the city to signal the arrival of the one & only Prince King Jayforce. Maybe I’ll use this track when I eventually get around to editing all the video footage I have from the trip. For now peep the track & my photo under the hood below…

Alternative: Frank Ocean – “Novacane” (LAKIM Edit)
LAKIM puts his spin on “Novacane” by Frank Ocean. Remember when we posted on Young Guru speaking on how modern music gets made by taking-and-remaking? This is that… in the best and most classic way! Good trance music refixx for weekend vibing. Respect to DJ Rahdu over at BamaLoveSoul for hipping us to this.

R&B/Jazz: Freddie Joachim – “Morning Calm”
I’m a big fan of Freddie Joachim’s work & he consistently keeps the quality coming. I can listen to his soulful & jazzy soundscapes for months & never get tired of them. That’s the definition of timeless. His latest project “Fiberglass Kisses” is out now & my favorite song “Keep Lovin” featuring North Carolina songstress Carlitta Durand stays on repeat in my itunes. This new joint right here he released called “Morning Calm” is just that….relaxing. Had this one on repeat several times after I first listened to it & felt I’d share it with y’all below. Trust me…it’s perfect.
