R&B/Jazz: D’angelo – “Devil’s Pie†(The Xtraordinair$ Remix)
Oh yeah. Heads up: Dope FREE download below!
Kansas City’s The Xtraordinair$ (Leonard Dstroy and Dominique Sanders, collectively) re-ups the D’Angelo classic “Devil’s Pie.†They re-instrumentalized the hell out of the jawn then flipped and freaked it tech-jazzy like. Good head nodding vibes coming out your speakers on this one. Enjoy.

Robert Glasper – “So Beautiful†(Live At Capitol Studios) [Video]
One of my favorite songs by Musiq Soulchild gets redone by the equally as dope Robert Glasper. Another cover – “So Beautiful” for the “Covered” album (out now). Nice drop from Musiq at the end, too.

Jakk Wonders – “Sample Til Infinity” (Instrumental Album)
Johannesburg, South Africa. New Hip-Hop hotbed. Well, that’s where producer Jakk Wonders hails from; and this sample & beat album he dropped is definitiely hot! First instrumental project for him, this “Sample Til Infinity” adds a bullet point to a résumé that will soon include work experience with the likes of Skyzoo, Rapper Pig Pooh and AWKWORD, among others. Listen and see if you’d hire this Wonder worker.
Robert Glasper – “The Worst” (Live At Capitol Studios) [Video]
Robert Glasper. On piano. Doing an instrumental cover to Jhené Aiko’s “The Worst.†One of several noteworthy covers on the “Covered” (album out June 16, 2015) – others include Kendrick Lamar, John Legend, Prince, and The Roots. The visuals above were (like all the album tracks) recorded at Capitol Studios.

R&B/Jazz: Black Milk – “Sonny Jr.” (Dreams) feat. Robert Glasper x Dwele
Nice bippety-boppity jazz from Black Milk’s 2013 album – “No Poison No Paradise” – entitled “Sonny Jr.” An incredible musical ride featuring Robert Glasper (on keyboard) and Dwele (on trumpet). Linked the single below (which will also allow you to get at the album, and thus, bonus tracks and all kinds of extras).

LAKIM – “I’m Rick James B!tch”
Every day people make remixes to classic and not so classic tracks. Â Sometimes the track sounds the same other times completely different. Â With that said sometimes producers are able to take just a little bit of the original track and make it their own while holding to true to what the artists created in the beginning. Â Well LAKIM has done just that with his latest remix track titled “Im Rick James Bitch” where he flips the Rick James classic “Super Freak”. Â I mean he adds some drums and a different baseline and it is a head nodder from start to finish. Â The only problem is it is too short only lasting for under two minutes.
“What did the five fingers Say to the Face? S-L-A-P I’m Cold Bloooooooded”

QSTN x Freddie Joachim – “Doppelganger”
If there exists a ‘how to start a perfect May’ kit, it should include stuff like this: new music by QSTN and Freddie Joachim. Enjoy some of this “Doppelganger”… and May.
Lakim – “I’m Rick James B!tch”
Lakim gets in a short and sweet incredibly dope beat freak entitled “I’m Rick James B!tch.” Ah, like an unusual wine blend. Note the not-so-subtle notes of the late great Rick James’ “Super Freak.” This is gonna make you wanna get up and gangsta walk. And why not? It’s a celebration! Haaaa.
Jamie XX – “Gosh” (Video)
Space…the final frontier. Well, this Jamie xx instrumental video for “Gosh” takes us on a spacey spaced out trek for certain. Industrial sounds in orbit around the planet. Could work on a shuttle or space station (or below if you choose to pre-order “In Colour” below which is due June 2nd).

araabMUZIK – “Day Dreams†(Video)
Click play above. You are now listening to (and watching a visual presentation for) araabMUZIK. The title of this experience is “Day Dreams.†The single “Day Dreams” is out on iTunes now.
Just Blaze – “Inhuman Nature” (Instrumental)
Just Blaze! Incredible flip of Michael Jackson’s “Human Nature” (taking it in enough of a different direction to call it (“Inhuman Nature”). He left some notes that ought to get you into the right frame of mind for listening.
Had some fun. Something to ride down the FDR to on a late night with the top down, reflecting on life.. like Rocky in that one scene after Apollo died. Word.
Tall Black Guy x Eric Lau x kidkanevil x Mr. Thing – “Thing Leaves The House” (Instrumental EP)
Great product above. In honor of RSD (Record Store Day) 2015, Tall Black Guy, Eric Lau, kidkanevil and Mr. Thing put out “Thing Leaves The House.” Can’t tell it better than DJ Gilla did for the First Word Records write-up:
Running an independent record label in 2015 is a tricky, (and some would say foolish) task. It is of course, a privilege to be given the responsibility to get an artist’s music out into the world, but the label’s side of the job is more about spreadsheets and sales ledgers than champagne and cigars. That is why last year’s Record Store Day was genuinely one of the most memorable and important days in the life of First Word. We released our first RSD release – Nothing Leaves The House, a project that was dreamt up on RSD 2012, and finally shared two years later. Unlike most records we release, we were able to be there as music fans discovered the record in the shops – an experience that was inspiring, humbling and ever so slightly addictive.
So we were always going to return with part two in 2015, this time with a twist. A year on from the day the trio of Eric Lau, Tall Black Guy and kidkanevil visited Mr. Thing’s collection to sample his records (where nothing could leave the house), we gathered them at London’s Love Vinyl record shop where he had brought one record from his collection for each producer. Their challenge was to make a beat from the individually chosen records: the results massively exceeded our expectations. Originally Mr. Thing was going to make a track from something in his collection too, but the three producers decided that he should go through the same process as they would. They picked a record from the racks of the shop (they had to find one he didn’t already own first) and his beat was created from that. The result is 4 tracks that truly capture the personalities of each producer, and a record that is born out of a heartfelt love of records – we hope you enjoy listening to it as much as we enjoyed making it.
We’ll be back for round 3 in 2016…

Thelonious Martin – “Corners of Your Mind” (Video)
Thelonious Martin with visuals for his “Corners of Your Mind.” Vocals by NYLO and Ksra. This is the first video for a single off the “Wünderkid” album. Linked below. Short, sweet… and mighty nice. Could be you want to get the mp3 track off the album and loop it for yourself, as you’ll want to hear it over and over.
R&B/Jazz: Buscrates 16-Bit Ensemble – “Starlight†(Instrumental)
Whatcha know ’bout Buscrates? You ought to know something if you hanging around here.
(Do a little research here, if you need to.)
Let us promise you something about this “Starlight” instrumental. Even though it’s way short of two minutes, something about it is just right. Need a quick hit, play it once. Need ambient chill vibe music, play it looped. But no blame will fall to Buscrates 16-Bit Ensemble. Just right. Thank you for this eclectic mellow.
Harry Fraud – “Blue/Green” (Instrumental EP)
La Musica De Harry Fraud! Enjoy these Blue/Green instrumentals created for the likes of Curren$y, Action Bronson, Wiz Khalifa, Smoke DZA, French Montana. Truth be told, whether they were on ’em or not, this EP was made for us… TO ENJOY!
Pete Rock – ‘One,Two, A Few More’
“I’m gearing up for the release of “Petestrumentals 2†with Mello Music Group. The first single “One, Two, A Few More†is actually a beat I made in 1995 and just sat on for years for the right moment. Now, I get a chance to release this and more new & unreleased music never heard by my fans with Mello. This instrumental LP will inspire the masses in anything you are doing. Just apply P2 to it and get on the road to success.†– Pete Rock

Khrysis – “Khrysis On The Boards” (Instrumental Album)
Yooo! “Khrysis On The Boards” is a problem (get it?)… instrumentals from Khrysis getting blessed by artists has become the norm out here in this music thing. But leaving the beats as the essence. Banged out from the main man’s mind. Something to be enjoyed blissfully. Stream it below.
!llmind – “Danger For The Bullsh*t”
Proof positive that banging beats never expire. Admit it. This beat is heat for the streets today… even though !llmind put this “Danger For The Bullsh*t” down back in 2004. But don’t call it a ‘throwback’… Call it a ‘throwblap.’
