That’s Right. Joe Is A Homeless Chick Magnet (Video)

Meet Joe. Homeless dude (awww). Self-admitted drunkard (okaaay). Chick magnet (WTF??!). Calls himself a “cardboard all star” but since he’s mastered the art of getting women to take him home with them, perhaps someone should come up with another moniker.

Originally from Boston, Joe, 26, may spend his daylight hours panhandling in Manhattan – making up to $150 on a given day – but his nights are a completely different ballgame. If you don’t think Joe looks homeless, well, that’s only because he’s good at what he does. According to Joe, his only responsibility is to not look homeless. In his mind, his appearance is a survival tactic. Joe spends whatever money he makes on keeping his appearance up, in addition to copious amounts of drugs and booze, with one goal in mind: attract as many girls as possible.
– Elite Daily

Okay, so by now you might be thinking Joe is a good-for-nothing-but-getting-drunk-laid-and-paid (whether that is good or bad thing… your call). But landing his next… er… “sponsor” is a matter of survival for Joe. Doing so three to four nights a week likely gets him hot showers and evenings off the streets. Watch and learn.

Debiltating Mystery Disorder: 8-Year-Old Boy’s Gigantic Hands (Video)

And still he finds a way to flash that incredible smile. Watch above. It’s heart-wrenching, and yet, eight-year-old Kaleem and his family find a way to keep it moving. On top of stifling poverty and poor living conditions, Kaleem has been saddled with a rare disorder (so rare doctors don’t even have a name for it) that has caused his hands to grow well out of proportion. Each hand is over 13 inches in length and weighs in excess of eight kilograms (over 17 pounds). His unnamed disability keeps him from going to school (as he would make other students uncomfortable) or even feeding himself. An unfortunate condition, and Kaleem’s parents can nowhere near afford any treatment. Please watch this video, and realize that Kaleem could have been you… or your baby. Reflection brings perspective.

Cover Story: Park Security Officer Pepper Sprays, Handcuffs, And Removes A Man From A Protest… Who Was Not Protesting And Never Threw A Punch (Video)

Okay, even if you have NO idea what happened before the cam started capturing this action… you can tell the officers got this wrong. Like pepper-spraying-an-innocent-bystander wrong! Then rough-handle him wrong… then whisk him away, retreating into a “private” building wrong.

Demonstrators protest the violence in Gaza during a pro Palestine rally in Seattle. As protestors lined the sidewalks in Westlake Park, a pro Israel supporter walks by, harassing the demonstrators, yelling in peoples faces, screaming obscenities, and racial slurs. After crossing the street and harassing another group of demonstrators, the man tore off his shirt and began walking towards the group with fists clenched. As someone who wasn’t a part of the demonstration walked by, the pro Israel supporter turned and said something as he passed. The man then turned around as if he was going to swing, but thought better of it. The pro Israel supporter squared off with him, but a Westlake security guard who was watching the interaction pulled out his pepper spray, and sprayed the innocent passerby, grabbed him by the arm and tried to wrestle him to the ground. He was eventually led off into Westlake Center as SPD arrived on the scene.

A subset of the photos taken documenting the moments before the video are included after the jump (source). THEN go back and watch the video again. Let it sink in. Then Google this phrase: quis custodiet ipsos custodes? And watch it again.

I thought I’d make a crack about out of control security officers being frustrated for not being ‘real’ cops; not having real guns. Then I thought:

  1. I don’t hate on anyone doing her/his job (and some security officers actually do their jobs)
  2. I am SO glad that ALL the officer had was pepper spray (another gun on another authority figure could’ve meant another Black man dead in this case).

Iron Man Fan Creates A Life-Size & Wearable Suit [Video]

A life-size Iron Man suit with eyes that light up like in the movies? Go on…

Welsh hobbyist (and uber-Iron Man fan) Peter Mitchell, used his engineering skills to construct something quite remarkable.

“I liked the film but I knew the missus wouldn’t let me buy a suit, so I decided to make one. I started off by buying a 1ft tall Iron Man model, and scaled things up from that. There is a lot of stuff on the Internet too — plans and discussion forums — which was useful.”

Totaling about £450 (about $760 US) in materials, Mitchell admits that due to hours (about a year’s worth) of hard work it took to create the suit, a real cost estimate would be a huge challenge to produce. Let’s call it priceless, and let that hardworking man have his moment.

VICE: The Other Side of Brazil’s World Cup (Video)

Futbol fever has taken hold of the world! The World Cup is underway in Brazil, and while we were tuned in to NBA Finals… the rest of the world had their eyes and minds on the big soccer tourney. Well, covering the story before that story, VICE was in Brazil doing an expo on the lead-up to the event.

The Brazilian government is spending an estimated $14 billion on this year’s tournament, making it the most expensive World Cup to date. This has provoked outrage among Brazilians, who view the government as corrupt. This growing unrest caused violent anti-government protests to break out in June 2013, and these protests have continued with increasing momentum in the lead-up to the World Cup. In response to these demonstrations, the Brazilian government has deployed police and military throughout the country to try to suppress the masses. Despite this crackdown, major demonstrations continue to take place in cities across the country as international teams begin to arrive for the games.

Impactful multimedia journalism delivered on-point. Par for the course for VICE NEWS.

Bleached Beauty: Kenyan Women Are Risking Their Health in Attempts to Lighten Their Skin (Video)

One has to wonder how far is too far? Some folks are totally against makeup; while some say ‘never leave home without it.’ Cosmetics can be used for slight beauty enhancement or covering blemishes that might otherwise wreck a person’s self esteem and day-to-day function. So, what about lightening of one’s skin? We have lightening patches to even skin tone in the States, but what about the growing trend for our Kenyan sisters to lighten up entirely? If it can be done safely and reliably (note: the above vid more than implies it is unsafe and unreliable), is significant skin lightening okay? Is that right? Is it anyone’s businesses but the buyers and sellers of such products and services?

Watch the news clip above. Let it spark deep thought and conversation.

‘What Would YOU Do’ If You Witnessed Racial Profiling In A High End Retail Store? (Video)

Chicago: Landmark Overlook Glass Ledge Suddenly Cracks, Startling Tourists (Video)

Friends of mine who’ve been to Chicago (Illinois, USA) say going out onto the glass ledge on Willis Tower’s Observation Deck – and looking out and down on the cityscape – is a ‘must do’ item for your bucket list. Well, I am going to leave that to them; especially after hearing about the ledge’s cracking as tourists were on it.

Cracked? Oh… heyull naaawww! But wait, wait. Architectural engineer Michael Swanberg said

“Because you can see through it, obviously there’s the psychological effect that ‘oh my gosh, something broke.’ But nobody was ever in danger.”

See (above), nothing to worry about. They even replaced that glass that cracked. So, y’all can feel safe going back out onto the ledge when you go to Chi-town. Cool.

Oh…Me? When am I going? How ’bout NEVERary the 32nd? Ha! I wasn’t ever going to step out there in the first place; even when the ledge was “totally safe.” But you tell me how fun it was, okay?

Kendrick Lamar’s Home Sweet Home

kendrick_lamar_house

Hey. Let’s go over Ken‘and’nem house for a minute. You know…KenKendrick Lamar. Yeah, you can roll. But respect the man’s home though. It’s nice.

And by nice. I mean nice…and at a reasonable price. Imagine that: Rap putting the pause on rhymes about opulence and dreams of such. To most of us, “making it” is a nice home with a manageable mortgage we can eventually pay off. And we expect rappers to buy their moms houses, then ball out of control in a mansion (rented or, preferably, mortgaged). So, I was more than pleasantly surprised to see Hip-Hop’s Black Hippie really show some sense when dropping dollars and cents on a crib.

If only MTV ‘Cribs’ was around to show this house off. Situated on a 7800-square foot lot an hour east of Los Angeles (California, USA). Just a bit over a half million bucks to get. Flexing, but not too much.

Salute, Kendric Lamar. Real Hip-Hop. Real responsible with the cash while it’s flowing.

Eye Candy: Serena Williams Surprises a Wedding Party In A Leopard Print Swimsuit (Video)

So damn hot she is on fiyaaah! The world’s sexiest tennis player, Serena Williams, went to the beach with her buds and…

… Oh look, girl … a wedding! Wanna go?

Maaaan… Serena can go anywhere she wants; dressed like Wonder Woman wants to dress when she grows up. Serena’s athletic Amazonian physique has always featured an azz heard [talked fondly about] around the world. But wowwwww.

So, imagine. You and [insert her name here] are having this amazing wedding, and Serena falls through. And she brought a gift. That aaaazzzz! And… the groom… BETTER… NOT… LOOK! Bwaaaahahahaaa. Poor brother. You KNOW he wants to look down. You KNOW he wants a pic of him looking down (to swap chuckles and elbow nudges with his boys; maybe later, with his son when he’s old enough)…but he cannot. His boo will walk out on him. Best to let her enjoy the celebrity surprise, so he can get some ‘enjoyment’ on the honeymoon.

Fortunately, TMZ has us covered with in-depth booty analysis. Watch and learn (above).

(Side note: Fox Sports says Williams’ buddy Caroline Wozniacki was there. She’s cute, too. Plus you know The Woz got jokes, too. Remember her Serena imitation? Wonder what she will come up with to ‘commemorate’ this happening?)

VICE: The Rise of Penal Implants (Video)

Hey…stop groaning at the title, and watch the video. Hahaha (by the way, you should see what VICE came up with for a title)! Good insights as usual.

Penile implants have become a popular treatment option for erectile dysfunction—a health complication that more than 30 million men suffer from in the United States alone. The surgery consists of placing an inflatable prosthesis within a man’s member that is attached to a soft ball that sits in the scrotum. When the ball is pumped, the penis remains hard for as long as the man wants. Most individuals that undergo the operation are satisfied with their implant, but the unlucky two to three percent experience infections that can lead to death, mangled parts, and more.

VICE spoke with a leading doctor in the field. Find out what it’s worth [and whether it’s worth it] to get your penis operated on in the episode above.

So, there are legit reasons for the risk; but could it be that some dudes are trying to keep up with the honeyz “enhancing” their derrieres (see earlier post here)??

R.I.P. Dr. Maya Angelou (Video)

Local news report on the passing of an international treasure. We are deeply saddened by the passing of spiritual sister-mother to many, inspiration to all, Dr. Maya Angelou. Born Marguerite Ann Johnson, the legendary poet, author and social commentator left this earthly realm yesterday morning. She was 86 years old. Her son, Guy Johnson, issued this statement:

Dr. Maya Angelou passed quietly in her home before 8 a.m., EST. Her family is extremely grateful that her ascension was not belabored by a loss of acuity or comprehension. She lived a life as a teacher, activist, artist and human being. The family is extremely appreciative of the time we had with her and we know that she is looking down upon us with love.”

Choked up as we may be over this news, we can say this. Very few in the modern era can say they have spoken to and for ALL of us – the most powerful to the least thought of – lifting up all who heard or read her words; but never putting herself ahead of anyone. Anyone, ANYONE who lives four score and six years about whom that can be said MUST have lived a full life. Cry for a moment, because loss hurts. But please, find joy after the mourning. We were better for knowing Dr. Angelou in some capacity. It seems only right that we honor her by striving to be our best, as she seemed to see and celebrate the best in us.

Rest In Power, Dr. Angelou.

(See photos, remembrances and more after the jump.)
