The 2002 ‘Beltway Snipers’ Story – “Blue Caprice” (Film Trailer)
In theaters September 13, 2013, “Blue Caprice” relates a story pulled from the headlines and accounts of the ‘DC Sniper’ attacks of 2002. Starring Isaiah Washington as John Allen Muhammad and Tequan Richmond as his son.
‘A sniper must be able to calmly and deliberately kill without an apparent reason. A sniper must not be susceptible to emotions such as anxiety or remorse.’
Questlove Speaks On Hip Hop’s 40th Birthday, ‘Stop & Frisk’, the Zimmerman Verdict, and His Experience With Racial Profiling (Video)
Amir “Questlove” Thompson is on video talking about all kinds of stuff for a hour… that ought to be enough, knowing that The Roots co-founder is an insightful societal and music industry commentator.
Questlove talks with DemocracyNow.org about his musical upbringing, stop and frisk, Hip-Hop’s 40th, his book “Mo’ Meta Blues” … and there’s more. Got a clip above. More video footage after the jump below….
Inmates and Prison Officials Agree: “The House I Live In” Documentary Exposes The Failures of The U.S. War On Drugs Policy (Video)
HEADLINE: Inmates and Prison Guards AGREE on Failures of the Drug War!
Above is a behind-the-scenes teaser for a screening for Eugene Jarecki’s documentary “The House I Live In.” The venue: Joseph Harp Correctional Center (Lexington, Oklahoma, USA). Making a documentary at a jail… sure. But viewing it there, that’s different. But you know drug enforcement policy is more than a bit *messed* up if the C.O.’s and the prisoners can agree that it is!
See clips from the film (executive producers: Brad Pitt, John Legend, Russell Simmons and Danny Glover) after the jump. VERY interesting…

HBO Films: Muhammad Ali’s Greatest Fight (Trailer)
“Muhammad Ali’s Greatest Fight” premieres Saturday, October 5, 2013 at 8PM Eastern Time on HBO. This documentary has all the indications of greatness. An epic true life story: the then Heavyweight Champ Muhammad Ali refusing to enlist and go fight for the USA in Vietnam when he is drafted, a crisis of faith (his objections to the war), prison time, appeals taken all the way to the highest court in America… star power: Danny Glover, Christopher Plummer, Ed Begley Jr., Barry Levinson… and playing Ali… NO ONE! No one plays the Champ better than [stock footage of] the Champ!
HBO Films can pull it off though; as the documentary will focus more on the Supreme Court judges, their rulings and places in history, rather than on Ali himself.
Academy Award Winner Jennifer Hudson to Star in ‘Winnie Mandela’ (Video)
So there is a Winnie Mandela film coming. Jennifer Hudson is playing Winnie… and playing her husband Nelson… NOT Idris Elba (who stars in ‘Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom’ – which we posted on here a while ago). In ‘Winnie Mandela,’ Nelson Mandela will be played by Terrence Howard. Winnie is set for U.S. release on September 6, 2013. The film originally premiered at the Toronto Film Festival in 2011 and was released in Canada October 2012 (with little fanfare). This time, around the same time as ‘Long Walk To Freedom,’ the ‘Winnie Mandela’ release will hopefully do better.
Magnum Opus Episode 4: Watch Jeru the Damaja “Come Clean” About His 90s Hit and How He Came Up (Video)

Spike Lee Speaks On His New Kickstarter Project, Gentrification In Brooklyn, & School Daze 2 (Video)
Got three clips’ worth of good watching on vanguard filmmaker Spike Lee. In the first clip, above, Vibe interviews Spike on the challenges of fundraising for filmmaking via his Kickstarter campaign for his next film and the criticism it will bring. Innovative approach though: Spike invites all levels of participation (from even 5 bucks to those that can chip in $10,000)… and offers some interesting prizes can win (including signed Nikes, dinner with Spike and courtside seats at a Knicks game).
See two more clips after the jump: on his views regarding gentrification of his hood and on revisiting a classic.
Arsenio Hall Preps His Return to Late Night TV With His New Band (Video)
I think Arsenio peeped how successful & integral The Roots are to Jimmy Fallon’s late night talk show that he knew having a good band would be very important in 2013.
“I’ve got an incredible band and they’ll help me, too, (with booking).â€
–Arsenio Hall, in an Interview With Billboard.
Check out this behind the scenes look and photo shoot as Arsenio ramps up for his return to talk TV this September.
‘Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom’ Starring Idris Elba (Long Trailer)
We posted the UK trailer for the coming ‘Mandela’ movie earlier on here. Needless to say it was an incredibly short teaser of what’s to come. The film currently slated to be released November 29th seeks to chronicle Mandela’s life from his childhood in a rural village to his eventually ascent as the first democratically elected President of South Africa. Early rumors about the screenplay have the focus of the film to be on on Mandela’s younger days in South Africa. Nelson Mandela recently turned 95 after suffering a few life threatening health related issues so hopefully he will be with us when the world celebrates as the film hits theaters. Of course we posted the short version earlier, but now take a peek at the official ‘Long Version’ of the movie trailer.
12 Years A Slave (Movie Trailer)
‘“12 Years a Slave” is based on an incredible true story of one man’s fight for survival and freedom. In the pre-Civil War United States, Solomon Northup (Chiwetel Ejiofor), a free black man from upstate New York, is abducted and sold into slavery. Facing cruelty (personified by a malevolent slave owner, portrayed by Michael Fassbender), as well as unexpected kindnesses, Solomon struggles not only to stay alive, but to retain his dignity. In the twelfth year of his unforgettable odyssey, Solomon’s chance meeting with a Canadian abolitionist (Brad Pitt) will forever alter his life.’

The KKK Kept Patrick Ewing From Attending UNC (Video)
‘There was a big Ku Klux Klan rally in North Carolina when I was there. And I’m like…you know what…I’m not coming down here!’
– Patrick Ewing, on the phone with Dan Patrick
Well, Patrick Ewing’s first choice was Georgetown University anyway. But I bet that KKK ‘welcome ceremony’ didn’t help UNC’s recruiting effort. Note to any remaining racists out there… you can really cost your program something serious with your ignorance. Like future NBA all-star center serious. Wow! Watch.

The two talk about coming up out of Mount Vernon (New York, USA), the progression of music from their area and the past era.
