Swizz Beatz & Friends Show 100,000+ Fans And The World ‘I Love Haiti’ (Video)

“Putting together this concert was important to me because I wanted to provide the Haitian people a platform of hope and unity through music.”
Olivier Martelly, Big O Productions CEO

A little footage (above) and a few pictures (after the jump) to show Hip-Hop having big heart! Shout to the people of Haiti. Earthquakes & the thievery related to relief efforts, ethnic cleansing & racism in the Dominican Republic, persistent poverty and despair… and still the people of Haiti push through. That’s real.

That said, it’s only right to shine a light on artists who try to bring a little light into dark times for a people. Haiti’s Big O Productions brought multi-platinum artists Swizz Beatz (who partnered with Martelly to make this happen), Chris Brown, and Lil Wayne to join Haitian Artists T-Micky and Barikad Crew in Port-au-Prince to present a FREE six-hour concert event for the over 100,000 people that attended. Actress/Model Kate Upton, Haitian-American boxer Andre Berto and Def Jam records exec Bu Thiam were also in attendance.

“This was a very humbling experience,” said Swizz Beatz following the concert. “To see the number of Haitians come out during a time like this was amazing…. The energy was perfect.”

ATL Event: Tariq Nasheed “Code of Conduct” Lecture Tour July 11th

Screen Shot 2015-06-29 at 9.55.44 AMRight now in America a lot of turmoil is going on. We just experienced the murder of 9 people by the terrorist Dylan Roof in Charleston SC. We still have the scars from Baltimore and Ferguson that went down this year. Not to mention black children being attacked in Texas at pool parties. Tariq Nasheed, NY Times best selling author & critically acclaimed film producer of Hidden Colors Movie Series, has talked about black people in America getting a “Code of Conduct”. This Code of Conduct he speaks of does not deal with Religion or joining an organization it deals with us collectively having a similar mindset on issues that affect our community. Well he has decided to come to the people to talk about this and he is going to Philadelphia, Detroit, and the city we are based out of Atlanta. The lecture in Atlanta takes place July 11th at the Alliance Theater located in the Woodruff Arts Center. This is a great venue and it is sure to be a fun filled night. Click the link after the jump to see a recent interview he did on international TV Network Press TV.

“Cooley High” Celebrates Its 40th Anniversary (Video)

And I’ll taaaaaake with me the memorieeeees…

Wow! Has it been 40 years already? Answer: Yes. The movie some of your peers didn’t even know about until Boyz II Men did the theme song remake (“It’s So Hard To Say Goodbye To Yesterday” – see quote above)… “Cooley High” was released 40 years ago! Movie magic made with a cast of unknowns (at that point in time). Hard times, good times, sad times. A bittersweet classic that is REQUIRED watching; so watch above (again, if you like) and celebrate with us. Preach, Cochise… everybody is waiting for you to press play. Go!

Rap Quotes ATL : Dirty South Edition (Video)

So when it comes to classic rap lyrics many involve the artist shouting out their hometown or where they may reside at current time.  Not always content at just shouting out their city, but many rappers detail clothing stores, restaurants and of course the “Shoe Modeling Spots” (Strip Clubs).  Jay Shells (Artist/Designer) hailing from New York City has taken his love of rap quotes referencing cities to the next level.  He is behind the movement known as “Rap Quotes” where he actually creates signs with the lyrics of certain areas and places them exactly where the rapper mentioned.  He has done this in the cities of New York, LA, Philadelphia, and now he has come to the city I call home….Atlanta.  He was brought to the city by the founders of A3C festival and in the video shot by Animal New York you catch Jay placing the signs up all over town.  Jay Shells is coming back to Atlanta in October be and we will definitely talk with him for the site and Beatz & Lyrics Show!

The ‘F*@k It’ List: President Obama Roasts Himself, Hillary Clinton, and Vice President Joe Biden (Video)

The highlight of this news snip clip: President Obama’s new policy list (not a bucket list; but it rhymes with ‘bucket’). But there’s other good stuff in the brief video compilation, too. It was like the end of a ‘Barack Obama Roast’ at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. He got shots in on e’erybody. Haaaaa!

President Obama Calls On ‘Luther’, The Anger Translator, During Speech at WHCA Dinner (Video)

“Hold on to your lily white butts!”‘Luther’ The Anger Translator

This is classic!! America’s media pretty much has carte blanche in matters of merrymaking at The President’s expense. But imagine a comedy schtick that the President is actually in on! President Obama makes humorous remarks at the annual dinner of the White House Correspondents’ Association (WHCA) every year, sure. But this year, he “borrows” Keegan Michael Key (of Comedy Central’s “Key and Peele”) to do his ‘Luther’ thing for some over-the-top hilarity. Journalists, politicians and celebrities at the dinner seemed to cheer as Key steps to the podium about as loud as you’d expect they would for The President. The routine the duo does is subdued (sorta) but what Key and President Obama pull off here… Well, this ought to show up in somebody’s history book! Enjoy.
