It’s not the Soul Train Awards it’s the Coon Train Awards that is taking place tonight at the Acme Comedy Theater in Los Angeles, CA. What is the Coon Train Awards aka Plantation Celebration all about? This is the brain child of Filmaker/Author Tariq Nasheed who has commonly used the phrase Coon Train in his lectures. Tariq has even created funny YouTube videos with a Coon Train awards theme song and placing images of certain celebrities in the skits. In some of the videos he has placed Clarence Thomas, Michael Steele, Stacey Dash among many others. If you are not in LA to see the awards in person you can still stream online 10pm Est 7pm Pst. Click Here to go to Tariq Nasheed’s Ustream page where the awards will be shown.
Some of the categories are: Best Sambo in Sports, Mammy of the Year, Biggest Coon in News so there will be plenty of interesting names nominated for these awards. I am sure this will cause quite a discussion watch live and use the hashtag #CoonTrainAwards

UK Artist Little Simz – “Atlanta Show Debut” (Concert Review)
A Curious Tale of Trials & Persons tour made it’s stop in Atlanta, GA March 21st at Vinyl (Center Stage). A curious tale is the debut album from rapper Little Simz who hails from London, England making her Atlanta debut. I have been a fan of her music ever since I heard the track “Mandarin Oranges” which features Grand Rapids emcee Waldo. Mandarin Oranges immediately pulled me into her music and had me seeking to find out more about her. I have had the pleasure of interviewing Waldo and he expressed how talented Simz is and happy to see her gaining much success. So I was very excited to see that she would be making a stop in ATL to perform live!
Compton Awards The ‘Key To The City’ To Kendrick Lamar (Video)
Man, I’m overwhelmed… y’all got to give me a second…
Kendrick Lamar. Yes, the Dr. Dre protege; the Grammy winner (winning on stage, too); the dude doing good from the Hood to the [White] House; and now, recipient of the Key To The City Of Compton. Watch him in all graciousness, and almost no glamorizing. Love shown by the city for the love he has and always will show right back. Respect!
Shout out to Jeandra LeBeauf and BadCulture.net for capturing this proud moment for us all.
Kendrick Lamar – “The Blacker The Berry” / “Alright” (Live At The Grammys) [Video]
Now, it’d be enough for a West Coast emcee to someday rock the Staples Center. If you are a fan of K-Dot’s, it would be enough to see him rock anywhere; a dream for that place to be the Center. But imagine THE performance of THE Grammys that got the whole web world wide JUMPING… Better watch this now. Embeds of Kendrick Lamar’s “The Blacker The Berry” & “Alright” Grammy night set are getting snatched down left and right.
Action Bronson With Food and Fun From The Festival In Jamaica (Video)
Well, well, if it isn’t ol’ Bam Bam at the Nyam Jam Festival in Jamaica. And what’s cooking chef? Whatever it is… We’re sure to say, “F#ck, That’s Delicious!”
As Action Bronson’s presence in the “Food World” becomes more permanent, new and diverse opportunities are popping up for the self proclaimed Human Highlight Reel. This time it popped up in the most beautiful location possible, Goldeneye Resort in Oracabessa, Jamaica. The event was entitled Nyam Jam, and even before Action knew exactly what it was, he agreed to attend. As stated in the video, there was not a single bad bite of food, and if you love hot sauces and various pepper spreads, then you really couldn’t do much better. Mr. Bronson honed in on a calabasa slaw prepared by visiting Puerto Rican chef, Jose Enrique and a smoked chicken sandwich from Jamaican grill master, Gariel Ferguson. His experience at Nyam Jam inspired him so much, that upon his arrival back in New York, he immediately got cow foot stew and ate in the parking lot of Home Depot. One love.

Ryan Coogler Interviews J. Cole For #MLKNow (Video)
Above: Ryan Coogler (Director of “Creed” and “Fruitvale Station”) with a deeper than in-depth interview with J. Cole. You can tell it was more a frank discussion than an interview though; Coogler admitting to this being his first time as an interviewer and Cole admitting to a gang of things: the tragic death of Oscar Grant as told in “Fruitvale Station” makes him cry every time… fear-frustration-sadness and artistic motivations that came from subsequent incidents of police brutality… feelings on Black-on-Black crime… life as a married man (stunned the crowd, and toned down the ladies’ screams…for the time being).
Watch the whole 20 minutes. Very appropriate conversation in the wake of the Martin Luther King, Jr. commemoration. Engaging, enlightening and empowering! The web was on fire due to news of Cole’s nuptials being dropped like a bomb in this clip, but the most powerful moment was when the brothers were exchanging thank-yous to end the interview.
Stop thanking me… We a part of the same body. Bruh, my hand don’t wake up and thank the other hand.
– Ryan Coogler
Wow… feel that chill? That surge of pride? That’s #MLKNow and hopefully motivation to take strides.
Kanye West Rocks The DNC Fundraiser With A Near Hour-Long Performance (Video)
Rich folks, dry wine, drier chicken, even drier conversation. That’s all you envision going on at a high-brow fundraiser. Admit it.
Well, if you said, “No,” you must have already seen Yeezus West have no mercy on stage at this concert gig he did at The Warfield for the Democratic National Convention’s fundraiser. The cause: The Democratic Hope Fund. But why an hour? Just cause he has the time and the talent to deliver that long and the show stay strong.
Respect.
Two-Hour Live Interview With Kanye West (Video)
People’s misunderstanding of me is a misunderstanding of themselves.
– Kanye West
Okay, say what you will about Kanye (and you will, just the way it is), but the man is a phenomenon. And as such, we are almost equally blessed and stressed by what we know and think we know about him. And even when so-called ‘craziness’ comes to light related to dude, we’re more likely to run toward it than away. But this low-key live interview interaction with Ye gives us another look at the man, dispelling some myths (letting others ride), talking in the way of a misunderstood legend. Think John Lennon back in the day when watching this (uh oh, might have to do some more Googling, ha).
Good watch. Right under two hours… wow! Full transcript available, too.

Eddie Murphy Accepts Mark Twain Prize And Does Bill Cosby Impression At Kennedy Center (Video)
Okay, it’s going to be some must-see TV on PBS on November 23, 2015. Comic legend Eddie Murphy was honored recently with the Mark Twain Prize; and PBS will broadcast the award show (recorded at the Kennedy Center) on that night. Most interesting is the title of the YouTube trailer, “Murphy Makes Cosby Jokes at Award Ceremony.”
On the one hand, Mark Twain (Samuel Clemens) was known for biting witticisms and tongue-in-cheek commentary; so joking on current events and taboo stuff would be par for his course, right? But focusing on Cosby controversy will get the poster some more hits… is what it is. On the other hand, the Cos jokes were an overwhelmingly small part of the clip. Most of the video features celeb admirers – including JB Smoove, a near teary-eyed Tracy Morgan, and best bud Arsenio Hall – there to celebrate a comedy idol.
The Bill Cosby jokes and impression, though, were hilarious. That’s a given. It’s Eddie. Plus, he’s been killing with the Cos play since “Raw.”
Raekwon Speaks On Designing Sneakers & Possible Wu-Tang Biopic (Video)
Raekwon speaking on how a business opportunity led to the design of his Diadora N9000 shoes. See the interview above with him at the release event. He also talks about the possibility of a Wu-Tang Clan documentary or film; as ‘Straight Outta Compton’ opened that lane, documenting N.W.A. from back in the day.
