Food: What’s In ‘Your Daily Bread’? (Video)
“The bread you’re buying isn’t actually real bread.”
– Zooey Deschanel
So, I could file this under Activism. But it’s about our food. And I know if you like your white bread (I do), this may not make you think, “No more of that sh!t for me.” However, we should KNOW what we are eating… what choices we are making. It’s similar to the GMO debate. Whether you think that kind of food is “bad” or not, you should KNOW it’s there, so you can make an INFORMED choice.
You know what… this is going under Activism, too.
Environmental Racism Is the New Jim Crow (Video)
For those who cannot fathom that race-based discrimination is still a thing…
Vann R. Newkirk II argues environmental racism is the new Jim Crow.

Technology: Whirlpool Turbines Designed To Provide Renewable Energy For Small Communities (Video)
We’ve seen this work on a large scale… Hoover Dam and others… where you wall up a huge reservoir of water and then let it go; the force of the waterfall spinning a turbine that generates electricity. It is all about turning potential into kinetic energy and harnessing the power.
So what if we could do that on a smaller scale? Oh wait, this is no longer a ‘what if’ thing. This is a ‘why not’ thing. And it is awesome!
Clean, renewable, no harm to inhabitants (including the fish), and only one moving part. Genius!

Imagine A 600-Square-Foot Mansion. Look At This Tiny House (Video)
Japan’s Horinouchi House makes 600 square feet seem like a bona fide mansion.
– Digital Trends
I guess I’m weird when it comes to the desire for a big house and the acres… I actually have flights of fantasy about a tiny home; maybe on a big plot of land, but big being like an acre or less. Plus, I’d rather have one really good toilet in my tiny mansion than four mediocre ones in a big ‘un.
(Too much? Yes? Maybe?)
But check this dream house (in my mind) out. Dope!

Technology: Tesla’s New Semi Truck And Roadster (Video)
Aw c’mon maaaan! Real-life Tony Stark (aka Elon Musk) had his company whip up a couple of new future whips… and one is a TRUCK????! A damn SEMI??! Wow!
Elon Musk unveiled Tesla’s new Semi truck and (in a surprise) a second-generation Roadster. The truck is supposed to get 500 miles per charge, while the Roadster is said to achieve 620 miles.
– The Verge
That’s 500 miles, at maximum weight, at highway speed… which Tesla’s truck can get to faster than today’s diesel models. Yeah. Musk’s truck can kick our trucks’ asses.
Technology: Norwegian Prototype Autonomous, All-Elelectric Ship To Launch In 2018 (Video)
Yes, the Yara Birkeland is all-electric. And autonomous, so no human crew required. Shipping overseas without the pollution, muss, or fuss. Sign us up! Even the ones who don’t want it. Sign them up, too!
(Cost of the new ships = $25 million each. Saving the planet and the lives of potential crew members = Priceless!)
How Did Teenager Luke Thill Afford His Own Home? Well, He Started By Mowing Lawns (Video)
Not bad. Actually, kind of very cool! Think back to when I was 13… Was I doing anything remotely this bright? Nah. Not anywhere near. Hahaaa!
Now, you armchair conservationists and construction engineers should take note: (1) Luke’s built and “financed” this house on his own, (2) using LOTS of reclaimed/repurposed material, (3) for less than $1500, and (4) HE IS 13 YEARS OLD!
Meet Luke Thill, who at age twelve started working on his very own tiny house- one a mere 5′ by 10′, but with a sleep loft, transforming dining table, and even a small kitchenette. At age thirteen, using money from summer lawn-mowing jobs, and bartering (electrical wiring help in exchange for cleaning out a garage in one case), Iowa’s Thill completed his tiny house – one that he calls the practice precursor to a future “real” tiny house he plans on designing and eventually living in.

Technology: See Teslas In Tunnels, Skating Under The Traffic (Video)
Crazy… like a genius. Yep, real-life Tony Stark (you know, billionaire tech futurist Elon Musk) leaving President Trump’s advisory cabal has left him with more time/energy to put into going to, landing on & living on Mars… making super-cool cars that come when you call them & drive themselves…
Now, we know that we can reduce traffic glut & stress (on people and our environment) if we relied more on high-tech, mass transit, or some combo of the two. But we LOVE being in our own cars (e.g. our own personal travel spaces). So how about this: Musk’s new tunneling business, Boring Company (‘boring’ like ‘drilling’), instead of pushing people onto buses and trains, is trying to make it possible to get our CARS on board. Watch the clip above. See how Musk can help sweep up the traffic mess, while allowing cars to hop on ‘skates’ and sweep past traffic, UNDERGROUND in a tunnel.
Watch The Final Teaser For “Geostorm” (Trailer)
Sending prayers to Puerto Rico, Florida, Texas, and all in the wake of the hurricanes and tropical storms. Much has happened in the way of natural phenomena attacking humanity where it lives since the first “Geostorm” trailer we posted. Of course, this epic enviro-thriller will take things extremely over the top, but it does kind of trigger feelings regarding our own dealings with nature’s wrath.
Okay, on with the trailer. One last look (trailer) before it hits big silver screens.

Science/Technology: The Hydrogen-Powered Rasa Car Looks Good On Paper… And On The Road (Video)
Okay, let me beat you vroom-vroom car enthusiasts to the punch. Zero to 55mph in 9 seconds is certainly NOT blowing the doors off anything. But c’mon son, 300 miles on one tank AND no emissions at all… Slow ya roll and save the world… literally!
The Rasa car is powered entirely by hydrogen and looks straight out of a James Bond movie. It can reach 55 mph in 9 seconds.

Questlove Speaks On How F*cked Up It Would Be To Cut The EPA’s Budget (Video)
Questlove and the National Resources Defense Council (NRDC) put together this light-hearted PSA on what is ultimately a life or death situation. C’mon, current Administration… What? You don’t think it’s important to ensure that we have drinkable water, breathable air, and uncontaminated produce?? That really is f*cked up.
(All jokes and subtleties aside, don’t mess with the Environmental Protection Agency in ANY way. The EPA’s work is too important for scoring political points.)
Science: NASA’s Weather Machine (Video)
NASA’s playing God! It’s making its own weather!
– Jeremy Clarkson
Wow. Sometimes (read: more often than you think) the byproducts of science and engineering as, or more, fascinating than the intended project. Case in point: NASA’s rocket booster testing in ‘nowhere, in the middle of nowhere’ Mississippi. The intent was to test some very expensive, very large, very VERY loud boosters. The byproducts – big billowing clouds RAIN clouds!
Seeding clouds for rain? Nah. That’s 20th Century maaaaan. NASA is making clouds… on the side… just because!
Neil deGrasse Tyson With Some “Astrophysics for People in a Hurry” And A Word For Climate Science Deniers (Video)
Great talk. Plus: Neil deGrasse Tyson with the booooom statement of, like, the decade or something! To all the climate change deniers: How was it that we made all kinds of plans, and reacted with all kinds and fervor and enthusiasm, to the Eclipse [Across America] – a phenomenon predicted by science – but NOT even flinch or flitter at the very real, very scientifically-founded warnings of pending planet-wide doom due to climate change (global warming, whatever you wanna call it)? Is it because beach chairs will become useless for the beachfront after the ocean level rises? Maybe because you’ll need good galoshes to go anywhere downtown in NYC? C’mon son!
Neil deGrasse Tyson weighs in on why climate change is subject to political debate and examines the privilege of wondering about space in “Astrophysics for People in a Hurry.”
– Comedy Central
Okay, they are probably not reading this post or watching The Daily Show on Comedy Central… So if you know a denier, please share this.

Cover Story: Climate Gentrification Is Pushing Black Residents Out Of Little Haiti (Video)
Climate change is threatening Miami’s Black neighborhoods. Some fear they’ll be pushed out of their homes by climate gentrification. pic.twitter.com/AfZrAigCPi

It’s like we’re coming to an end, right? Little Haiti will be wiped away.
– Valencia Gunder
Redlining, gentrification… and now climate gentrification? Damn! Black folks can’t catch a break, can we? Pushed off living on the beach, being pushed out of where they eventually settled, and now the WEATHER is a driving force displacing the residents of Little Haiti in Florida. See the insights and angles explored in this mini-documentary from The Root. It was made with support from Participant Media, creator of “An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power” (the follow-up to that first film former Vice President Al Gore did: “An Inconvenient Truth”).
David Bamberger Shows How He Brought Life Back To The Barren Texas Hill Country (Video)
Kind of cool. You know, in our posting about colonizing Mars we probably should be talking more about making the unlivable land inhabitable. Kind of like David is doing here. A bit easier to do on Earth, what with the breathable air, centuries of civilized existence, and access to society making inputs on the same planet. Still, David boldly went on his mission to make a natural paradise of the rough Texas Hill Country.
Almost 50 years ago, fried chicken tycoon David Bamberger used his fortune to purchase 5,500 acres of overgrazed land in the Texas Hill Country. Planting grasses to soak in rains and fill hillside aquifers, Bamberger devoted the rest of his life to restoring the degraded landscape. Today, the land has been restored to its original habitat and boasts enormous biodiversity. Bamberger’s model of land stewardship is now being replicated across the region and he is considered to be a visionary in land management and water conservation.

Pusha T Speaks On His ‘Run For the Oceans’ And Says “King Push” Is 85% Complete (Video)
Interesting. Instead of moping about ‘taking the L’ in the recent U.S. Presidential election, Pusha T is getting into being more ‘self-governing’ and pushing the causes he is interested in (with no more ties to the White House)… and partnering with companies in line with them.
Adidas and Parley join forces to help draw attention to and preserve the world’s oceans. Pusha T performs and speaks on the importance of brand activism and his love for Adidas.

Hmm… Push drones on and on a bit about Yeezy’s beats being the driver for choosing his production to dominate the forthcoming album… over his OGs The Neptunes (Chad Hugo, Pharrell Williams). Not disrespectful really. Kanye is a well-known worldwide all-time beast on them beatz. But, maybe, someone might feel slightly slighted with how ‘energetic’ Push got when he got the question. Just saying.
