History: Why Do People In Old Movies Talk Weird? (Video)
Now, see here… you hear the way they talk here… There’s a history behind it.
It’s not quite British, and it’s not quite American – so what gives? Why do all those actors of yesteryear have such a distinct and strange accent?
Check out the fun and informative lecturette video above. Very interesting!
Brother Ali and A Class Of Denver 5th Graders ‘Hang Out’ To Learn From Each Other (Video)
This is so dope!!! Part of what we love to do here is bring you coolness that just does not get to see the light of day elsewhere…but should.
5th Grade Students from Denver, CO interview Brother Ali to discuss names and their importance to the individual.
– Paul Clifton
This Google Hangout interview features Mr. Clifton’s students asking questions to guide informative discussion that enriched the speaker and the audience. Ali thanked the kids for teaching him as he was signing off. In the beginning Ali was asked, “What kind of person are you?”
Ali answered, “Well, I try to be a good person… [v]ery connected to The Creator, to myself, and to my heart and other people, and to my community.”
(Note that he did NOT reply ‘the dopest emcee’ – or anything me-me-ME centered – Brother Ali showed up and showed respect and love to those children and they showed it right back. Hip-Hop is the culture. Ali is an example of how we’d love those in the Nation to live – reaching, teaching, uplifting youth… partnering with others (i.e. Mr. Clifton)… giving of self and offering to do it again and again when called up… with a spirit of thankfulness.)
In a word: DOPE!

Cornell University And Bill Adler To Create A Digital Hip-Hop Archive (Audio)
Aaliyah, Ace Hood, the Afros, Ali D, Arrested Development: In Bill Adler’s extensive collection of Hip-Hop history, some of the genre’s biggest names are arranged next to lesser mainstream artists.
Adler was the founding publicity director of Def Jam Records. One of his first assignments was getting pop music critics at daily newspapers to cover one of the label’s new artists, LL Cool J. He worked at Def Jam for six years, before going independent and later running a gallery devoted to Hip-Hop photography. From these ventures, he accrued a massive archive, which lived in a storage space in the basement of his building until he sold the collection to Cornell University last year. Soon it will also live online
Adler sent Cornell University 500 vinyl recordings, an impressive collection of books in several languages and roughly 100,000 newspaper and magazine articles about rap and Hip-Hop…

100 Orgasms A Day: Freak Accident Leaves Man With A Debilitating Disorder (Video)
You read the title. It brought you here. A hundred orgasms a day…debilitating???
It is unbelievable, but the video segment above will help you believe…and understand. But before you completely understand, your disbelief may give way to a couple of chuckles. You’re human, and this is a very strange thing. One that will likely make you uncomfortable and maybe frighten you a bit; a real example of too-much-of-a-good thing made all too real. It is not good.
Read on. Meet Dale. Try to understand.
A heartbroken man suffers from 100 orgasms each day – but does not enjoy a single one. Dale Decker is the first man to ever speak publicly about Persistent Genital Arousal Syndrome – a condition he developed in September 2012 when he slipped a disc in his back while getting out of a chair. On his way to the hospital he suffered his first five orgasms and has been given no respite from them since. The painful pelvic episodes have left him housebound and isolated through fear of suffering a public orgasm. Dale lives in Two Rivers, Wisconsin with his wife April and two sons Christian, 12 and Tayten, 11. While she does everything she can to support him, April, 33 is finding Dale’s condition just as hard to live with as he is. The horrific condition has cost Dale many of his friends and the relationship he shares with his sons has also been affected. Despite suffering from a near constant erection Dale and April rarely have sex.

The Return Of The Black Death (Documentary)
In the minds of most Westerners, still, the Black Plague triggers thoughts of history lessons, or of movies about the Middle Ages. This is not a modern era illness we face. To oversimplify, the Black Death is supposed to be dead. Well, with recent mainstream reporting about a third world outbreak – and a public health scare as two victims returned to Atlanta (Georgia, USA) for treatment – the West likely experienced a mental software upgrade that re-ranked the disease much higher among the threats to health and chances of survival. However, as is oft the case for mainstream media, another shiny new story came up, and another (Ray Rice, U.S.-led airstrikes…whatever, take your pick); and Western reporters moved on to the next one…on to the next one. But not VICE. This is where VICE lives: Embedded in the hottest areas of stories too dangerous AND too low on the ‘this just in’ scale of current events for big-budget reporting outfits to care about; usually in faraway places and affecting people who are to far removed from ‘us’ to care about. THAT is why we f#ck with VICE: Because as a noble reporting institution that could do otherwise, it consistently chooses to find and stay on the stories that thinking and feeling people would indeed care about (or care about longer) if they were told and kept fully informed about them. Like this Black Death that the mainstream news (liberal and conservative leaning) thinks is ‘dead’ (e.g. a dead story). It is still VERY much alive. And not knowing and keeping up with it could still get lots and lots of us KILLED.
VICE gives a detailed, two-part documentary report and writeup. Watch, starting with part 1 above. Follow the link to read more below; and hit the jump for part 2. Get this knowledge in you like medicine! Folks and the media think the ‘curing’ of two folks in the ATL is a triumph over what could be considered a ‘scary outbreak that happened over there.’ Nah, maaan. This thing could hit a city! Thousands to millions of people at risk. Maybe that’d make it ‘big’ enough to get outbreak coverage again but… as the VICE report adeptly put it: “[H]istory has taught us, by the time there are enough people with the plague to classify it as an “outbreak,†it’s already too late.”
Sesame Street: Janelle Monae – “Power of Yet” (Video)
You just didn’t get it…yet…
– Janelle Monae, On The “Power of Yet”

Science: Drexel’s Ken Lacovara Discovers Your Dino-Nightmare – Dreadnoughtus Schrani (Video)
In the near Antarctic region of the world, a mega-megaton creature with no fear or reason to fear anyone in its path. Not just because of its massive size and musculature (think: 13 bull elephants smashed into one creature) …but also because of its weaponized tail! Cyclops to Professor X: I think we have found the Savage Land. Brace yourself, people, we’re going in!
Drexel University professor Ken Lacovara has recently unveiled a new supermassive dinosaur species he discovered and unearthed with his team between 2005 and 2009. Weighing in at nearly 65 tons, Dreadnoughtus schrani is the largest land animal ever found of calculable mass and also by far one of the most complete skeletons ever found for a dinosaur in this mass range!
And…Dreadnoughtus schrani (translation: “fears nothingâ€) is a herbivore? WTF did they put in the veggies back then?? DAMN!
Activism/Education: The NDAA Explained In 3 Minutes (Video)
Think all you had to worry about regarding your life and liberty in the United States were possible unknown risks inherent to your food supply, and very known instances of police brutality? Think again. This mini-expo video should give you a quick shake and smack to wake you up to the real dangers of having government-sanctioned arrests, extractions, and detainment without due process (per the National Defense Authorization Act) and nearly no real oversight. This is part of the not-so-beautiful half Homeboy Sandman rapped about America…
Regardless of where on this planet you live, and no matter what your nationality, the fact that the indefinite detention provisions of the NDAA are still on the books, should disturb you on a fundamental level. If not, give it three minutes.

Education: Jim Carrey Delivers an Enlightening Commencement Address at the 2014 MUM Graduation (Video)
“Fear is going to be a player in life, but you get to decide how much. So many of us choose our path out of fear disguised as practicality. What we really want seems impossibly out of reach and ridiculous to expect, so we never dare to ask the universe for it.”
– Jim Carrey
Hilarious… easily slipping into profound… in his Maharishi University of Management (http://www.mum.edu) graduation speech to 285 students representing 54 countries. Initially found a writeup and clip on it at Today.com. Jim Carrey gave his commencement address to Maharishi University of Management’s class of 2014. The University Board of Trustees also presented Carrey with the honorary degree of Doctor of Fine Arts Honoris Causa, in recognition of his significant lifetime achievements as a world-renowned comedian and actor, artist, author and philanthropist.
Watch the full video (the above quote comes in at the 10-minute mark). I’m betting you will be impressed and entertained by Carrey’s talk. I was. LOTS of gems of wisdom dropped in this!
