Michael Jackson: Bad 25 (Documentary)

Spike Lee directed this “Bad 25” documentary that aired on ABC Thanksgiving day as Spike gets behind-the-scenes footage, the never-told-before stories & more behind the making of Michael Jackson’s “Bad” album. This version that aired on ABC last night won’t be the same as the full 2 hour DVD that will be released in stores around Christmas, but this is definitely a must see Spike Lee joint. Technology: U.S. Military Considering a Pokémon Inspired Gun? (Video)

CAUTION: The YouTube post said some “kids went into seizures” upon viewing this Pokémon cartoon episode.

Shout to Heather Fairchild over at AtlantaCareerPath.com for the initial scoop on this.

According to documents acquired by Wired.com, through a private U.S. citizen’s Freedom of Information Act request, the U.S. Army kicked around the idea of disabling enemy combatants with blasts of electromagnetic energy. Amazingly, the idea inspired by a Pokémon cartoon episode (see excerpt above). Here is a passage on the proposed nonlethal weapon technology:

‘Application of “electromagnetic pulses” could force neurons to all fire at once, causing a “disruption of voluntary muscle control,” reads a description of a proposed seizure weapon, contained in a declassified document from the US Army’s National Ground Intelligence Centre. “It is thought by using a method that would actually trigger nerve synapses directly with an electrical field, essentially 100 per cent of individuals would be susceptible to seizure induction.”‘

Wowwww. Talk about high-tech warfare!

Technology: The World’s First Supersonic Skydiver (Video)

Okay, I tagged this one “technology” but it should really be “adventure.” This past Sunday, Austrian former paratrooper Felix Baumgartner finally got to fulfill his latest mission… to skydive from over 24 miles up AND become the first human to break the sound barrier without a vehicle! Interestingly enough, Chuck Yeager celebrated the 65th anniversary of his breaking the sound barrier (in a supersonic vehicle). Whew! These guys are a couple of man’s men… and NERDS (can’t do this and be stupid y’all)… at the same damn time! Big up to space research like this… and to those who BOLDLY go where none have gone before. Respect!

Peep the congratulatory Tweet from NASA:

‘The dive was, in fact, more than just a stunt. NASA is eager to improve its blueprints for future spacesuits.’

N.W.A. Nominated For The 2013 Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame

It’s so crazy how two of my favorite groups of all-time have both been nominated for the 2013 Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame. We saw the announcement from DJ Lord & Flavor Flav about their group Public Enemy’s nomination, but upon closer inspection we also see the guys who put Compton on the map get nominations. Ice Cube, Eazy-E, Dr. Dre, MC Ren, & DJ Yella as N.W.A. get the nods as well & the timing couldn’t be anymore perfect as there is already a biographical film that’s currently in production directed by F. Gary Gray to tell their story. Dope!

‘Inductees will be determined by the hall’s voting body of roughly 600 artists, historians and music industry professionals. An artist or band becomes eligible for a nomination 25 years after releasing a debut single or album. This year’s nominees released their first recordings no later than 1987.’

Ray Lewis Says He’s Not Waiting For His Son In The NFL (Video)

This may very well be future hall of famer & Baltimore Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis’s last year in the NFL. In many ways I’m rooting for Ray Lewis & the Baltimore Ravens to get back to the Super Bowl one last time for Ray although I’m an Oakland Raiders fan. Some people had minor hopes that Ray Lewis would hold on in the NFL a few more years, long enough to be in the league to play against or with his son Ray Lewis III. In this interview Ray Lewis speaks about his son who will be attend the University Of Miami as a freshman running back, but Ray Lewis clearly states he has no plans to keep playing in the league should his son enter the NFL draft in the future. If it did happen that would be something very special to see, but we all can sense that Ray is retiring after this season.

Cover Story: Laura Flanders and Rashad Robinson on Fighting ALEC (Video)

I make it a point to watch Moyers & Company most every Sunday on PBS Atlanta. When I can, I attend live chat sessions and keep up with the web exclusives. Smart commentary on politics of the day. Last episode was an intriguing in-depth conversation on the agenda of the American Legislative Exchange Council, or ALEC.

ALEC pursues its goal – to influence lawmaking (mainly at the state level) – in ways that neglect U.S. citizens’ input and interests. This affects us! Remember the Trayvon Martin case? ALEC’s hand-print was all over the “Stand Your Ground” legislation that let shooter George Zimmerman delay investigation and indictment for so long!

Like so many organizations that aim to control our political process in the United States, ALEC is an evil hidden in plain view. We can fight it once we see and know about it. This Moyers & Company web exclusive – a conversation between GritTV’s Laura Flanders and Rashad Robinson, Executive Director of ColorofChange.org – helps put ALEC and its agenda in plain view. Watch. Listen. Tell a friend to, too. Learn how Rashad fought back and what ordinary folks can do. By the way, Election Day is only a month a way! Let’s GO!

VICE: Israel’s Radical Left (Documentary)

VICE travels to Israel to meet young members of the growing radical left, in the lead up to the one-year anniversary of the biggest protest in Israel’s history. Last summer, while the world was busy following the Arab Spring, nearly half a million Israelis took to the streets demanding social justice and an end to the rule of the tycoons. Still, the government didn’t listen. The protest movement was nicknamed J14, short for July 14, marking the date a girl named Daphni Leef pitched the first tent in central Tel Aviv, in protest against high rents and living costs. Fed up with threats of imminent wars with their Arab neighbors, the hostile ways of land grabbing religious nutters in silly hats, and the fact that almost two million Israelis are living in poverty, young people are choosing the path of dissent.

We follow Ronnie Barkan, an Israeli Jew who fights for Palestinian rights, to a protest in the West Bank. We also meet Daphni Leef and Stav Shaffir, the most famous faces of the protest movement, who inspire people all over Israel to get involved. We visit creatives who have unique ways of dealing with the government’s fear mongering: Ronny Edry and Michal Tamir, who started the Facebook campaign Israel Loves Iran; Artist Guy Briller, who drives around with a missile on his car to ease the tension and make people laugh; and Yuda Braun, a former IDF soldier turned artist, who patrols the streets of conflict ridden areas as the White Soldier.

Finally, we get a gruesome reminder of the depths of desperation felt by many Israelis, when, during the massive one-year anniversary demo, we witness a man set fire to himself in protest against Israel’s dysfunctional welfare system. It’s an insight into everyday life in Israel that goes beyond the hackneyed media coverage of Gaza rockets and death tolls. This film is about young Israelis starting a revolution for social justice.” – VICE

VICE: Renegade Jewish Settlers (Documentary)

“Israeli settlers have been slowly nibbling away at Palestine’s West Bank territory for more than 30 years. 300,000 settlers now occupy illegal outposts that range in size from plywood shacks to full-blown suburban housing complexes. Their abundance has grounded the much-ballyhooed two-state solution to a halt. In this documentary, VICE correspondent Simon Ostrovsky travels from Tel Aviv to the remote West Bank outposts where young Israelis squat for the sake of their heritage.” – VICE

50 Cent Orders Investigation Into the Death of Chris Lighty (Video)

Without question, the loss of Violator founder and CEO Chris Lighty left us in the Hip-Hop world saddened… stunned… and puzzled. What could have led Chris to commit suicide. It has been echoed by several long-time associates that it just did not seem likely that Chris would take his own life. Well, at the request of Chris’ mom, 50 Cent has brought his star power and resources to bare; hiring a high-powered legal team to drive an investigation on the particulars of this tragic case. This should bring truth to light… and answers to questions. Linked after the jump, the article by Fox 5’s (NYC) Lisa Evers highlights some points for concern: Chris was NOT likely suffering financially (often a driver for suicidal depression); and for someone still in his 30s, he was VERY well prepared in end-of-life matters. One such preparation the article notes was that, save a relatively modest set-aside for his kids, Chris’ entire fortune would pass to his widow – with whom he was said to have argued with just before his demise. Moreover, autopsy results have not shown anything… other than the cause of death was a gunshot wound. Other facts of the are still being gathered. As such, maybe 50’s legal team can, at least, keep the push for answers on.

The Real Life Tony Stark: Elon Musk Was Inspiration For Marvel’s “Iron Man” Movie Character (Video)

Forty-year-old South African innovator Elon Musk (featured in the video vignette above) served as an inspiration for the fictional genius billionaire Tony Stark in the “Iron Man” movies, according to director Jon Favreau. Mr. Musk even made a cameo in one of the movies. A quick peek at his profile lets us know that Mr. Musk is indeed the Marvel comic character come to life!

Successful in bold business ventures, Mr. Musk’s Tesla Motors, Inc. (of Palo Alto, California), already has more than 10,000 orders for its Model S high-end electric car. A futurist with eyes toward the skies (and beyond), Mr. Musk’s Falcon 9 rocket (developed by his Hawthorne-based business SpaceX) took an unmanned Dragon capsule on a mission to the International Space Station – marking the first time a private company has sent a spacecraft to the space station. Mr. Musk, ever the industrialist, also helped cousins Lyndon and Peter Rive develop their soon-to-be public SolarCity solar panel company (and he currently serves as Chairman of its Board). Oh yeah… forgot to mention that Mr. Musk also founded PayPal (which sold to eBay for $1.5 billion a while ago)!

But alas, like Tony Stark, Mr. Musk is something of a troubled ladies’ man – recently splitting with his actress wife, Talulah Riley; his second, as author Justine Musk was his first. Justine is coming out with a book…and word has it that it will NOT be a flattering piece of literature.

Mm..mm…mm…it’s hard out here for a futurist…industrialist…philanthropist…tech wiz…PLAYER!

GMOs: Monsanto Was Wrong about Agent Orange being ‘Safe.’ Will We Trust Them with Our Food?

Don’t you think it is your RIGHT to know what you are putting into your bodies… into your children’s bodies? We at JayForce.com do!  We strongly believe that the freedom to eat whatever you want MUST be coupled with the free flow of information about what you are eating. That is why we are sharing this informational video published by Nutiva. Here is the  message that accompanies its YouTube video (above):

‘The same corporations that said DDT and Agent Orange were safe have now put millions of dollars into the campaign against our right to know what’s in our food. In November, Californians will vote on the most important issue to ever effect our food supply. As Goes California, So Goes the Nation.

Vote YES ON 37 Because We Have The Right To Know What’s In Our Food!

Just think: Why would a corporation NOT want you to know what it is doing to your food?

Jesse Ventura Appears On CNN Speaking On ‘Gangs In Government’ with ‘Piers Morgan’ (Video)

Jesse Ventura is DANGEROUS… to the status quo. Former Minnesota Governor has recently been making on-air appearances, in support of his new book’s release, with whomever (Like Piers Morgan in the clip above) is brave enough to have him. Declaring that he has already been banned from Fox News, Ventura is quick to point out that that does not put him in the Democrats’ camp; as MSNBC apparently won’t have him on-air either. Consider his words lifted from the video above:

‘The Democrats and Republicans have built a system based completely on bribery. You bribe the politician, you get what you want. You don’t bribe ’em, you don’t get anything. Now in the private sector, you do that you go to JAIL!’

Clearly, the ex-governor plays no favorites in print either. Ventura’s book – “Demo-CRIPS and Re-BLOOD-licans: No More Gangs in Government” – literally (or in this instance, literarily) characterizes our two-party system as comprised of two GANGS. Wowwww! In the video, Ventura goes on to share his stances on censorship, conspiracies, and more. Call Ventura what you will, former pro-wrestler… former governor… current apolitical super-Libertarian firebrand… You cannot call him “dummy.” Consider the weight of the 51-year-old former-Navy-Seal’s words from the video:

‘My country has been at war for over half of my life.’

Damn… That’s a hard truth. We gotta do better.

McDonald’s Going Meatless?

McDonald’s is the biggest burger chain in the world, in part, because it knows how to give the customers what they want. That said, we might say “about damn time” to vegetarian options on Mickey D’s menu, right? Well… hold your lettuce, pickles, and onions, my friend. No one is saying McD’s will offer vegetarian menu items…worldwide…yet. However, Businessweek has reported that the burger chain’s locations in India will serve only vegetarian food because of customer preferences in the region. While there are only 250 (out of 33,000-plus) McDonald’s locations in India, this is a huge step: To go from just “not serving beef or pork” to becoming completely vegetarian. Of course, the chain is taking the huge step in hopes of making huge gains:

A 2006 poll found that about 40 percent of Indians do not eat meat, and McDonald’s is eager to tap that 500-million-strong market.

I got no beef with McDonald’s over this. Good business move. But keep my Mighty Wings on the menu over here in the States… and bring back that McRib sandwich pronto! Yes… That will complete my order.

Technology: Disney Research Scientist Creates Virtual Reality Experience That Looks & Feels Real

If ever there was such a thing as a touchy-feely techie, Ivan Poupyrev is. The 42-year-old son of a Russian mathematician, now senior research scientist at Disney Research, is leading us down a virtual reality (VR) path that could one day rival the experience of walking on a Star Trek Holo-Deck (y’all know I’m a Trekkie).

Poupyrev has already created an orchid that emits sounds when its stem is stroked… a knob that unlocks a door when it’s touched a certain way… with more good tech on the way (already 11 patents to his name).

Having been at Disney since 2009, Poupyrev has also been working on technology that turns smooth surfaces into textures. Emitting a weak electrical signal through the body via a small device placed in the heel of a shoe or in a shirt pocket (see? like a Star Trek comm-badge… told ya!), Poupyrev’s technology can make the wearer “feel” images he projects. For example, when the wearer touches an image of a ball projected onto a wall, it feels rubbery to that person. Similarly, a wearer can feel the ridges on a projected image of a mountain. “We can easily add tactile feedback to any wall and public spaces,” Poupyrev says.

Easily… did you get that? This is NOTHING to Poupyrev and Disney! Like play time…
