R.I.P. James Hood, First Black Man to Enroll at The University of Alabama (Video)
I just learned that an often under-recognized civil rights figure has passed. My eternal respect and thanks to you, Mr. James Hood. Because of the courageous steps you and Vivian Malone took into Foster Auditorium long ago, I was allowed to walk the halls and earn two degrees from The University of Alabama decades later. Many of those young men who took the field to reclaim the NCAA Football Championship this year owe their right to do so to you and a faithful few who saw the battle for our civil rights through in those tough times.
R.I.P. Mr. Hood. Roll Tide!

Big Boi Politics: 1/2 Of Outkast Speaks On Why He Didn’t Vote For President Barack Obama (Video)
If you follow Big Boi on twitter like I do then you should already have an idea of his political views. Personally I find myself having more in common with Big Boi’s political views than most people which is one of the primary reasons I do follow him on twitter. I don’t follow many artists on twitter unless they do have something significant to say or if they are able to bring my attention to something important other than “entertainment”.  I’m an independent & I agree with many of the views of the Libertarian party although I don’t have any political affiliations with ANY political party. In the last presidential election my views fell in line more with candidates like Jill Stein or Gary Johnson more than President Barack Obama, but unfortunately the way the American political process works it was clear to me Jill Stein & Gary Johnson didn’t have a shot at actually winning. Although more independent voices are cropping up over the past decade the reality is until there are significant campaign reforms, independent candidates many never have a real shot. In an ideal world I would have voted for either of those two, but I feel wasting a vote on a candidate that is unable to actually win played a huge part in my personal decision & voting for Mitt Romney was entirely out of the question. In a recent interview on HuffPost Live, Big Boi sets the record straight for people who “assumed” he voted for President Barack Obama in addition to a few other hot button topics. Check out more of the interview in the videos below after the jump…..

Quentin Tarantino Argues With Interviewer About The Violence In The ‘Django Unchained’ Movie (Video)
There was some great dialogue going on in this interview with director Quentin Tarantino initially regarding the movie Django Unchained, which I thought was a very good film. The real dialogue involving slavery & why Quentin Tarantino made the film began to unravel when the reporter Krishnan Guru-Murthy of Britain’s Channel 4 News tried to steer discussion to fit whatever agenda he was attempting to push. In Quentin Tarantino’s defense he’s answered questions about violence in his films for years so for the reporter to retread the same questions was not only a bit nauseating but derailed what could have otherwise been a good & insightful interview with more answers regarding the film. I don’t believe reporters & interviewers need to be all “buddy buddy”, “Friends”, or “D*ck riders”, when dealing with their interview subjects, but they don’t necessarily need to be a douche either.

‘Mayan Doomsday 2012’…NASA Knew It Wouldn’t Happen (Video)
C’mon… you’ve been watching “The Walking Dead” on AMC… you peeped the movie trailers for “World War Z” and “After Earth”… You cannot tell me that along with those visions of sugarplums dancing in your head… you hadn’t thought about what might happen on 12/21/2012 (the day the world was supposed to end).
Okay, you don’t have to admit it. After all, you have the luxury of being here today saying “I knew it all along.” NASA’s and other scientists took a stand on this craziness before the so-called Doomsday date arrived.
‘…there was never evidence that the Maya culture predicted the end of the world on 12/21/12 . In fact, there are Mayan texts that refer to time periods beyond 2012.’

JetSetter: San Juan, Puerto Rico (Video)
I’ve been to Puerto Rico a few times & it’s a great place to take your girlfriend, wife, or significant other. It’s one of those places that you don’t have to worry about converting money because they use U.S. dollars & you also don’t need a passport should you just want to hop on a flight & go at the last minute. Recently in the news the Puerto Rican people voted successfully in favor of becoming the 51st state of the U.S. There’s still more hurdles that may need to take place in congress & in the U.S. Senate, but this maybe a time for people to go check it out should any of those types of changes occur that may affect the true character of the island in the next few years. Check out this video of writer Nelson George from his trip to Puerto Rico last year in association with BlackAtlas.com & American Airlines. Check out some addition video on Puerto Rico under the hood below….

Sports: Cleared of Rape Charges, Former High School Football Star Still Pursuing NFL Dream (Video)
NFL Hall of Famer and Legendary Green Bay Packers Coach Vince Lombardi said it best: “It’s not whether you get knocked down, it’s whether you get up.” Brian Banks must have heard those words before; because he is living them now.
The former high school football star was exonerated of a rape charge that, after 10 years, would be the end of one’s professional aspirations. Not, Banks’ though. He’s still pursuing his dream to play professional football! Now 27 years old, the linebacker finally signed with the Las Vegas Locomotives of the United Football League (UFL) after unsuccessful tryouts with the Seattle Seahawks (see video above), San Francisco 49ers, San Diego Chargers, and Kansas City Chiefs.
Banks should have been a Green Bay Packer. Still could be… Just saying. Considering that the only thing that has stopped him from playing pro ball is that the UFL folded due to financial challenges, you can bet that Banks will get up again (just as Lombardi coached); and if it is at all possible… Banks will get into the National Football League. He declares:
“I really do like my chances…The dream is still in pursuit.”

Technology: The Hackers Of Damascus – Cyber Wars Of Syria
Okay, sometimes I may wax ‘conspiracy theorist’ on here from time to time, but this time I leave it to Stephan Faris of Businessweek. In an in-depth expose, Faris details the way tech is being used – for good and bad – in the Syrian conflict. THIS IS LIFE AND DEATH PEOPLE!
That’s right. PRO-GOVERNMENT HACKERS. Now, this could be taken as legitimate counter-terrorism via Internet; noble e-soldiers fighting the good fight for their country. BUT consider the testimony of Taymour Karim, a 31-year-old doctor and anti-government protester:
The same tech that Egyptians used to organize and encourage during their uprising and successful ouster of long-time dictator Hosni Mubarak has now been “figured out” by oppressive government regimes; and the consequences are deadly. In the West, hackers attack government and business systems; and they are indicted and tried in court…NOT BEATEN! There is such a thing as too far folks, and the Syrian government is taking it there. I know that, in an earlier write-up, I posted that ‘safe and secure’ is a delusion in the modern computing world; but damn. I did not report that compromised passwords result in folks being injured or possibly dying. Well, I am now. It even got kind of dangerous for Faris, as he gathered facts via online interview of the Special Operations Department of The Syrian Electronic Army. They tried to hack his email account shortly after initial contact. The subversion was thwarted though, and the SEA denies the incident. Here is what they did say, however:
