Streaming Battle Royal: Apple, Spotify, & Tidal Test For Sound Quality (Video)
You’ve heard the bickering on and offline, surely: Apple is the best because they are the OGs in the stream game. Nah, but Spotify improved on the i-streamers. But hold on, Tidal put the tech and bandwith work in to crush competitors…but ‘politics as usual’ hold ’em back (as Jigga might say).
Alright STOP!
Somebody get the results and let’s settle this like Maury would. The sound quality tests determined…
(Come on now. Click play and find out.)
Coming Soon: Hankook iFlex Airless Tyre (Video)
Concept video above. Conceptualized a few years back, continuously improved since, the iFlex model is Hankook’s airless tire. And it may now be very close to production. Durable, stable, able to reach speeds of 130 km/h (or 81 mph), easier to produce, using recycled material, and promising no more flat tires to the consumer market really soon.
“Aiming to strengthen our technological leadership in the global tire market, we will continue to develop cutting edge eco-friendly and future-oriented tires.â€
– Seung-Hwa Suh, Hankook CEO and Vice Chairman
Yup, the car of the future will need some ‘new shoes’… and Hankook working on bringing ’em out like Jordans… now!

A $40K Music Video To Sell A House? In West Hollywood, Yes! (Video)
Well, damn! So that’s how we’re doing it at 9133 Oriole Way, West Hollywood CA, eh? There’s music, models, a luxurious home, blingy cars, bottles popping… but this is no music video. Not selling music. Selling REAL ESTATE. Apparently, a couple of realtors really understand the maxim “it takes money to make money”… like about $40,000 dropped on the above visuals to sell the home featured (valued at $33 million). IF a potential buyer has questions during the walkthrough, would one be, “Excuse me, does this model come with the models?”
(Okay, maybe it’s just us that would ask.)
Nelson Mandela’s Old Johannesburg Hideout Gives South African Artists & Entrepreneurs A New Home (Video)
Nice! Shout to The Daily Beast for bringing this Johannesburg gem to light. A center for entrepreneurship and culture that was once at the heart of the anti-apartheid movement. In South Africa, if you want to realize a dream, this is the place – apparently to work it or witness the work come to fruition. Great look at the people and art of Johannesburg in this clip.
Eats, Rhymes, & Life: Jarobi Put ‘The Chef’ In A Tribe Called Quest (Video)
Jarobi of A Tribe Called Quest and EvitaN. He’s a real life chef talks with a catering company “Eats Rhymes & Life” (yeah, like flipping the ATCQ documentary). Enjoy this clip of him talking up his “Tribe Taco Tuesdays” and other ideas. Great stuff!
Got a friend that might need to sample that falafel taco though bruddah. For real!
“The Grass Is Greener†(Documentary)
VICE sent another cute reporter (hey, just saying) to get another story traditional news media is simply not covering. Though the Marijuana Movement has had coverage, the travails of the business side, post-legalization, have not. Above is the story of an industry that continues to grow – in spite of limited bank backing for businesses, risks associated with having to do high-volume cash business (um…STRONG ARM ROBBERY on dat azz regularly), and very limited government support (dare we say opposition, as weed is still an illegal drug at the federal level).
BUT…
Still weed biz strives. Look, they’re having conventions and luring investors. Not to mention sending major tax revenue to the state of Colorado. Watch the report above.
Sorry, Sir, You Don’t Look Like Someone We’d Serve At This Restaurant…Oh You Have A Ferrari?? (Video)
Boom! Josh Paler Lin got ’em stuck off the… FAKENESS! And if you are brave enough to put yourself in the position of some of the folks on video here, you might feel convicted. Maybe we can all learn how to apply the lesson of this video somehow.
Lin is right. We should all be treated equally in this society; especially when stepping to a restaurant business that should be into making money more than making snap judgments. Dude was denied service because of his homeless look, but when he came back Ferrari fresh and Cosmo dressed the restaurant staff members were all but begging for him to eat there.
And when a restaurant showed itself to be that thirsty – after being so dismissive and judgmental to him before – all of a sudden, he wasn’t that hungry.
Stronger, Faster, Cheaper: Robots Are Replacing China’s Work Force (Video)
Very interesting. Over here in The States, folks dread the coming of robotic innovations that could cost them their jobs for the sake of manufacturing efficiency and cost effectiveness. But in China, where they have a lot of people, there is a shortage of “blue collar” workers. In other words, Chinese manufacturers claim that they don’t have enough workers around to complain. Their money-saving initiative involving robots would not be to replace workers; rather to avoid having to pay high wages to woo laborers or move to where the workers live. I wonder how this plays out for the average Chinese worker in a communist society as compared to here in a capitalist society like here the U.S. It seems like the companies in China could be fazing out the average worker, but are these corporations sharing in the workers’ ability to find work, sharing in the profits, or assisting them in pursuing their dreams elsewhere.
Check it.
Easton LaChappelle’s Brain-Powered Prosthetics Could Change The World (Video)
It’s cutting edge robotics meets 3D printing meets whatever cool sci-fi they’ll work in. Definitely incredible. And young inventor Easton LaChappelle, definitely a kid genius! What were you doing at 19? Designing and developing miraculous brain-powered prosthetics? Probably not. But watch Easton in the clip above and be amazed. But note what is most amazing: not just prosthetics for, say, soldiers rendered limbless in service to their country; but that dude can produce them for around $500 each (e.g. for the cheap)!
“Who’s Driving Hip Hop” Has Headkrack Along For The Ride (Video)
I find this “Who’s Driving Hip-Hop” concept to be hella creative & dope. Heavy on the guest and their story; but also taking care of business (mentioning the vehicle they’re in; best believe somebody kicked in on the budget for the promo mention). Good guest selection by the way: Headkrack (of Bodega Brovas) is an on-air radio personality, a character on or offline and a dope emcee (earlier posts on him here).

Baked Alaska (Documentary)
It all started with “…f#ck it I quit.”
Never thought a weed head would say that, did ya? Hahaaa! True, Charlo Greene did not quit her relationship with Mary Jane. In fact, she started (actually, kicked into overdrive) a public debate/campaign for Alaska’s legalization of marijuana. She had to quit her job as a television reporter to do it…
…or did she? Her quitting was a media and viral video score for her cause (good PR strategy).
On November 4, 2014, the state of Alaska was faced with a ballot measure to potentially make recreational marijuana legal. In this episode of Weediquette, we follow democracy in action through the eyes of Charlo Greene.
Greene became the firebrand folk hero of the “Yes on 2” movement after she famously quit her job as a news reporter on the air to run a cannabis club. VICE travels to Alaska to follow Charlo, and along the way we meet a cast of Alaskan natives who all have something at stake in this election.

Stephen Colbert: U-S-A! U-S-A! America’s Number One In The World… At Locking People Up (Video)
Soaking up all the Stephen Colbert cleverness – Tonight’s Word – on Comedy Central before he makes the leap from cable to big network TV (CBS’ Late Night With David Letterman’s replacement). The tongue-in-cheek ‘conservative’ pundit declares America is still Number 1 … in the number of people the country incarcerates (“in your face, China”)! He zeroes in on California’s prisons; but there is enough comedic jabbing for lots more in America to feel the King Of [Sarcastic] Sting.
Wal-Mart Could Help Eliminate Poverty By Sharing The Wealth… With Its Own Employees (Video)
Heartbreaking letter from LaRanda Jackson, a 20-year-old Wal-Mart employee who posted it to Alice Walton (heiress to Sam Walton’s Wal-Mart empire) on Wal-Mart’s “Hunger Games” Tumblr page.
I’m writing to you because it hurts to see the pain in my younger brothers’ eyes when we can’t afford food to fill their stomachs. Sure, they see that I’m working hard, taking the bus an hour each way to get to work at Walmart. Even though they know that things are tight right now, that our mom is often too sick to work, they just can’t understand why last year on Thanksgiving they didn’t get turkey and gravy like other kids their age.
But hey, what can Alice do? How could she help? All she did was inherit tons (literally) of money. Well, Walton family, listen to activist economist Robert Reich (above).
Business: Watch Fat Joe’s “Get Rich Quick” Pitch At Market America (Video)
Gonna take a long minute to process what you are seeing above (feels kinda of Amway-ish). Trust. What you are seeing/hearing is Joseph Cartagena (not Fat Joe) on stage, talking up an opportunity for audience members to make some residual income… not in a rhyme… rather, a business presentation in a little over thirty minutes.
President of Urban & Latino Development, Fat Joe, explains how to get on the Invisible Train to success with your Market America UnFranchise Business.
In a word: Wow.
Marijuana Stories: Meet The Real Nancy Botwin From ‘Weeds’ (Video)
Well, well… Dr. Dina (former D.A.R.E. kid, ha!)… has been taking care of her patients with recommendations of medical marijuana – patients like Snoop Dogg – waaaaay before Showtime put out the show ‘Weeds.’
‘Weeds,’ Showtime’s highest-rated television show, is the story of a single mom who starts an illegal weed business to provide for her family. With marijuana now being largely legal in Oregon, Alaska, Colorado, and Washington, Showtime’s crime sitcom no longer seems like outlandish fiction. In this episode, VICE tracks down a real-life Nancy Botwin—Dr. Dina, medical weed consultant to stars like Snoop Dogg and 2 Chainz.
Talk about art imitating life! Click play and check out the incredible story of how medical ‘Mary J’ came to spread across the area in Cali. VICE’s Gianna Toboni reports.
Live From China: Dog Meat Festival (Documentary)
“It’s meaty… horribly, horribly meaty… mixed with that familiar doggy smell…”
Okay. Westerners may need to settle themselves and their stomachs. And open their minds. Yes. It’s just as you’d suspect: VICE is at a meat market (in the Chinese province of Yulin) where they butcher and sell dogs to lots and lots of people who eat them. You will hear shocking terms used… like tasty… and healthy…
No judgements. Okay, that’s bull… but watch the video expo though. It’s VICE, so you know the reporting will come at the story from a different perspective that might cause you to rethink. Compelling.
(Gotta say… the reporter, Izzy Yeung, is hella cute.)

Tesla Unveils ‘Autopilot’ Function To Make Its Cars Driverless (Video)
Elon Musk (you know, the dude after whom the makers of the ‘Iron Man’ movies modeled Tony Stark) says the D series of Tesla’s Model S sedan will be out soon; and he is gunning to put autonomous cars on the road by 2023.
I think we’ll be able to achieve true autonomous driving, where you could literally get in the car, go to sleep and wake up at your destination.
– Elon Musk
Now, take it easy, it is expected to take two to three years after release for regulators to approve the autonomous cars for use in public. Still, the company demo’d its autopilot feature at a media event outside Los Angeles a little over a week ago.
(More video after the jump.)
Nas Speaks on His Children & Signing New Artists (Video)
Hot 105’s Angie Martinez has the G.O.D.M.C. on-air for an interview. Talking about all kinds of things: From congratulations to Angie for her move to the Home of The Breakfast Club, to her congrats to Nas announcing the release of the “Time Is Illmatic” documentary…
Nas surprises Angie in-studio for legendary New York Moment. He discusses his new documentary and upcoming music.
…but it doesn’t stop there. Talk about Nas’ babies growing up and his growing label (Mass Appeal) birthing (re-birthing) artists on the scene. Sneaker store… stuff like that.
Moms: The New Target Market Segment For Marijuana (Video)
“The ‘Green Crack’… That’s a real branding problem. You wanna get rid of the stigma…for moms.”
– Jessica Roake
Go for the moms. U.S. industry has pursued that marketing strategy for over a century. Exhibit: ‘soap’ operas (e.g. the ‘stories’) being produced specifically to sell SOAP to housewives back in the day. The tobacco smoking industry’s advertising included moms in the targeting mix (hell, they even included ‘doctors’ in some ads). The green industry machine had to eventually get around to talking to moms in their promotions (got to calm down eff’n ’round with these damn kids haha).
[The legal cannabis industry is] searching for ways to get moms around the country to set down their wine and light up. We travel to Denver with Jessica Roake, a mother of two from the suburbs of Washington, DC, for a mom-friendly cannabis tour. She gets blazed beyond belief in the name of market research.
Ah, VICE. This is that good good… article. Watch above.
