History: Life In Roman Britain (Video)

Caught a BBC write-up on this Roman Britain history animation video. Intriguing – both that the animators/producers chose to mix in brown-skinned characters as something other than slave-level AND that there was much Twitter beef about the historical accuracy of including Black people in the mix. Well, that second part is not that ‘intriguing’ as you KNOW someone is gonna hate when folks give Black people anywhere near a fair shake.
Come on. Why can’t haters skip the arguments (which they just might lose, seeing some scholars clap back that there were Brit Blacks back then)? To historical accuracy… would this clip’s detractors argument against White actress Elizabeth Taylor playing Cleopatra or all the non-Native players of Native Americans in the ‘classic’ movies? Want to go deeper? Okay, anyone want to tackle the ‘accuracy’ of Tom Cruise playing a White American Army officer who becomes the bad-azz sword-swinging ‘Last Sumerai’ in a year or so?
Yeah. Just watch the cartoon. LISTEN to the content. Maybe learn something about Britannia back in the day.

YOOOOO!!!! Thiz shiz iz yoga-flame-FIYAAAH! You probably know PhoBro from Greasekydz. He does production for Sikz when they link up to form the Hip-Hop monster SikzPho. Well, see, Google put this fun widget (called a ‘Doodle’) on its main search page last week to honor the widely accepted birthday of Hip-Hop. The widget let even a novice like me have fun ‘deejaying’ (definitely in quotes when it comes to my skills, but epic fun still).
Well… SikzPho was NOT effin’ around even as they were effin’ around with the Google Doodle. This is what they produced. Banging!

Crazy. Not only would this manufacturing method be quick, but the customization possibilities could be limitless! If we get to the level of on-demand ‘made to order’ drones… wow! The range of uses alone would be exciting… and at least a touch scary (since it would first be used by the military AND those drones look like some Skynet *ish off the Terminator movies). Still, incredible concept tech though.
During this century, scientists and engineers from BAE Systems and The University of Glasgow envisage that small Unmanned Air Vehicles (UAVs) bespoke to military operations, could be ‘grown’ in large-scale labs through chemistry, speeding up evolutionary processes and creating bespoke aircraft in weeks, rather than years.

Technology: Bill Gates Is Backing Cranfield University’s Waterless Toilet Concept (Video)

The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation is going hard for ‘the toilet of the future’… still. We posted on a prototype the Foundation backed in 2012 on here.
And now this…
In developing countries, access to public utilities like running water and sewer systems are often not available. The lack of those resources leads to unsanitary conditions that can put people’s lives at risk. Researchers at Cranfield University hope to put an end to that with the waterless Nano Membrane Toilet. The design has so much potential to change lives that it’s been backed by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

Ohhhhh! This is a trailer for a video game? I thought it was teasing some kind of epic movie – like how they did the Lego Batman joints. Maybe they will make a Marvel mashup movie down the road. At least we get this dope trailer. Game’s probably fun, too.

Out Cold: How Long Does It Take To Get Frostbite? (Video)

So wind chill DOES matter. For real! All these years, since bus stop forecasts on the evening news weather reports to just now, I was thinking that wind chill was just a matter of comfort; how long you could ‘chill’ in the wind, so to speak. But naaaaah son, it’s real in the field (AND at the bus stop). It turns out that extreme cold, in concert with wind chill, can freeze uncovered extremities within MINUTES. Introducing… frostbite!
Yeah, I used the word ‘concert’ – but think more ‘lose your fist’ than pumping your fist to ‘Lose Yourself’ if you find yourself in the middle of a windy winter in Detroit without gloves and gear. Just saying.
Frostbite is a serious condition. Cold temperatures can cause the skin and tissue to start freezing, killing the cells. But, wind-chill can drastically change how long you’ll last.
