Big Boi Working with Little Dragon (Video)

I’m a fan of the Swedish band Little Dragon & it’s obvious I’m not the only one as Big Boi aka “Daddy Fat Saxxx” has begun work on his next album which will feature a track or two with Yukimi of Little Dragon. While taking a break following a 10 hour recording session at the world famous Stankonia studios here in Atlanta they talked a little bit about the project. What I really want to know is where did Big Boi get that hoodie he’s rocking because that joint is kinda dope.

The Roots – “Life, Love, & Loot”

Inspired by the Captain Morgan commercial campaign of “Life, Love, & Loot”, Philly’s finest The Roots flipped the musical theme of the liquor brand’s primary song into a dope ass joint with a great classic rock feel. Black Thought aka Tariq Trotter kills this joint on the vocals so well it sounds like he may have outdid Lenny Kravitz himself at his own signature vocal style. The song won’t appear on the The Roots upcoming album “undun” due December 6th, but damn this joint is dope even if for a commercial campaign. My Dominican brother from another mother, Mafioso , put me up on this new video from the Dominican group Pa’lo Monte who’ve collaborated with Chuck D on this song entitled “Enigma” which touches upon the recruiting tactics and strategies of warfare that land many of young brothas & sistas on the front lines of war only to the benefit of the politically rich & powerful. Beside the song sounding good it’s dope to see there is a great message behind it too. Pa’lo Monte’s new album “Back To The Root” is available now on itunes through Chuck D’s SlamJamz label.

I could have sworn I read somewhere that Toronto singer Graph Nobel was no longer in the group, but I maybe mistaken or things could have changed since then. Quadron is a Danish duo consisting of singer Coco Maja Hastrup Karshøj and producer Robin Hannibal. The duo makes electric soul or what some call emo soul. I don’t understand the term “emo soul” because if it’s coming from the soul it’s always emotional. This joint is nice song to relax to. The beat and the vocals work together so well.

Singer & producer Syd Tha Kid is a part of that Odd Future collective that has been gaining plenty of publicity in the media. Syd, alongside fellow Odd Future member Matt Martians make up the duo called “The Internet”. The jury had been out with me on Odd Future outside of the great work of Frank Ocean, but if the rest of the collective keeps turning over quality like this “Love Song” right here then they’ll have a new fan in me. This joint right here is straight R&B/Soul, but the only problem I have with the song is that it’s way too short….

UK producer Jeymes Samuel is the mastermind behind the The Bullitts & the first single released back in April was “Close Your Eyes” which featured actress Lucy Liu & emcee Jay Electronica. This joint is just too fly to ignore…..Check out this preview from Portland Oregon artists Roane Namuh (aka DJ Roane) & singer Reva DeVito. Revo DeVito dropped a dope 5 song EP last year called “The Catnip Collective” which showcased her range in style from R&B, Jazz, Soul, & some indie pop vibes. I’ve had this “Should Have Known” track on repeat a few times after hearing this jawn for the first time. Reva DeVito also has a few songs for free download on her soundclound page.

One of my favorite songs off of Frank Ocean’s Nostalgia, Ultra project gets a new video. “Swim Good” is the latest visual from Frank Ocean & they keep coming. Frank’s videos remind me of a period in the 80s when some videos you’d have to watch several times to get the full meaning if there was one at all. Overall you’d just enjoy it because it was creative, artistic & visually interesting. I’m not mad at all……. Frank Ocean does it again! Quality!

There was a slight twitter controversy with these two artists after Frank Ocean was offended with Chris Brown comparing him to singer/songwriter James Fauntleroy. Frank Ocean may have thought it was a diss, but he may have been unaware that James Fauntleroy wrote many of Chris Brown’s hits. It’s evident that things have been cleared up & it’s all love now as they have this new track together.
