Kid Cudi – “Just What You Made” feat. King Chip
I pressed play on this joint from my laptop while sitting on the balcony of my friend’s high rise apartment peeping the Atlanta skyline. At that very moment & with the environment I was already in at the time this song was perfect. I had to replay it back several more times. Traditional Cudi fans shouldn’t be disappointed with this at all featuring the artist formerly known as Chip The Ripper aka King Chip. As a fan of Kid Cudi’s first two ‘Man On The Moon’ albums, my ears are ready for something new from the G.O.O.D. music artist. In a recent interview with Complex who debuted the track, Kid Cudi mentioned that he’s gonna try something a little different from his style on his next album entitled ‘Indicud’. I’m not mad at the old style as long as whatever he’s cooking up sounds good.
K’naan – “Hurt Me Tomorrow” (Video)
Somali born emcee & the troubadour himself, K’naan, delivers a colorful new video for “Hurt Me Tomorrow”. The song is further in the direction of the R&B, Pop, or World Music lane than the earlier days when we had K’naan on the Beatz & Lyrics Show years ago. It’s not surprising though considering the Toronto based emcee is now considered to be an international hip hop star. Although he’s a bigger international name these days I made a small observation of him not wearing any shoes in this new video that appears to signify that K’naan hasn’t forgotten his roots & the memorable alias he used coming up as the ‘Dusty Foot Philosopher’. Having collaborated with artists like Nas, Nelly Furtado, David Guetta, Wale, & touring with guys like Lenny Kravitz I’m positive his feet are a lot less dusty financially although K’naan still drops his good life philosophies within his music.

R&B/Soul: House Shoes – “Castles” featuring Jimetta Rose (Video)
Now, while “Time” (featuring Big Tone posted a while back here) is still a banger worth spinning, the latest House Shoes single off his album, “Let It Go,” entitled “Castles” (featuring Jimetta Rose), gets the needle on Beatz & Lyrics Saturdays nowadays. Definitely a JayForce favorite! And why not? The joint is banging, and so is this video for it! By the way, “Let It Go” is available via iTunes now.

No Doubt – “Settle Down” (Video)
No Doubt has been on a 10-year music video hiatus. Will fans think the next videos they put out be worth the wait? No Doubt! C’mon…you didn’t see that one coming? The group has always infused dancehall vibes into its joints because that’s a part of their history as a band. “Settle Down” keeps with that artistic direction. Check it out.
The Black Opera – “The Magician” Featuring Vaughn G. x Jade Lathan (Video)
It’s been a minute since we posted The Black Opera “Enterview”; but it looks like the enigmatic group has kept it moving. This subsequent video “demonstration” is for “The Magician” – a cut off “EnterMission” (out now via iTunes; with physical CDs available via Mellow Music Group August 28, 2012, and vinyl available on September 25, 2012).

R&B/Alternative: Szjerdene — “4th Stranger” (FS Green Remix)
Here’s an up-tempo club remix of Szjerdene’s “4th Stranger” for our listening pleasure. We posted something on Szjerdene a while back (a collabo with Mar which you can find here). This is more of the good stuff…a dance remix produced by FS Green for the love!

Yamin Semali – “Never Leave”
BB King had Lucille and Yamin Semali has his beloved instrument MIDIna. In celebrating their 10th year together, Yamin penned “Never Leave,” and they (he and MIDIna) created the music for it. Is it that serious? In a word…yes! Here’s a word from 1/2 of the group Clan Destined & the solo artist Yamin formerly known as Amdex himself:
“This is probably my favorite composition thus far.  It has no samples and it is a good example of how much one can do with a small idea.  I got my MPC in 2002, so on the 10th-year anniversary, I wanted to do something special for MIDIna, since she has been such a rider.  I couldn’t have made this track, and 1000s more, without her.  I am thankful to have her.”
Love real artists, maaannn; especially those who love their instruments!

iLuvLola Presents – “Get to Know Colin Munroe” (Video)
As part of the Get To Know series, iLuvLola sat down with the talented Colin Munroe. In this video shot (by Phil.The.God) at a recent show in Atlanta, Colin Munroe discussed his current tour with Sony artist K.Flay, working with Pusha T, his mixtape “Unsung Hero” (found it here), and a little bit of who he is. Munroe has had several career highlights since emerging in 2008 with a hot remix of Kanye West’s single, “All of the Lights”; which received thumbs up from peers and from Yeezy himself! Over his career thus far, he has worked with the likes of Wale, Drake, Talib Kweli, Travie McCoy, Slum Village, Asher Roth, Kendrick Lamar, and Slaughterhouse. Colin recently embarked on a North American tour with K.Flay; stopping in Toronto for his first hometown show at Wrongbar on Saturday July 7th. For more on Colin Munroe, including recent singles, visit colinmunroe.com.
Nice vid. Impressive artist. Been tracking this guy’s movement here on JayForce.com for quite some time. Â Here are a couple a recent posts (as an info refresher).
Kero One – “To the Top” (featuring Jane Lui)
Shout to BamaLoveSoul for putting me on to Kero One’s joint “Top the Top.” It makes my head sway… not nod or bob…but sway. Way smooth. Kero One is not only an emcee, but also a musician (does most of his own beats); influenced by jazz, synth music from the 80’s, and funk basslines from the 70’s. Check out “To the Top” from Kero One (featuring Jane Lui). Worth it…and you’re welcome.

Terry Urban Presents: Nas x Amy Winehouse – “Me & Mr. Jones” (Mixtape)
On July 17, 2012, the incomparable emcee Nas releases his long awaited album “Life Is Good.” On July 23, 2012, fans commemorate the first anniversary of the passing of the unforgettable Amy Winehouse. What’s the tie-in? Leave it to Terry Urban to make one. His incredible mix of work from the two incredible artists – entitled “Me & Mr. Jones” – is a concept that is (to say the least) an unexpected treat. This is an appropriate release in advance of both monumental events; and a good piece of work on its own merits. Respect.

Based in Gothenburg, Sweden, veteran Swedish-Japanese singer Yukimi Nagano is the lead vocalist for Little Dragon, which also features keyboardist Hakan Wirenstrand, bassist Fredrik Kallgren Wallin, and drummer Erik Bodin. Kids These Days – “Flashing Lights” (Revised) [Video]
Here is a video for the Kids These Days (KTD) version of “Flashing Lights.” The talented anti-style alt-Hip-Hop band has artfully flipped Kanye West’s song and redelivered it as a brooding story about police harassment.
Cool…but what do you mean when you speak of KTD’s anti-style, ojones1? Well, it is the best descriptor I could assign a band that defies conventional description. However, I did some digging; so you could at least understand KTD and why they are so hard to categorize…and you’re welcome.

R&B: Rochelle Jordan – “Losing”
Toronto native Rochelle Jordan is back with another quality R&B joint that follows the familiar atmospheric vibe her producer KLSH is becoming known for crafting around her. Occasionally I still go back to play tracks from her R O J O project that she released last year. Apparently this new joint “Losing” will appear on her upcoming EP entitled P R E S S U R E due later this summer. Definitely diggin’ the artwork with the T-Dot skyline in the background for the single too. Listen or download the song below & check out the video trailer for the EP under the hood…..

14KT – “Blessed” (Video)
“Blessed” is a feature single from the 2012 album “A Friendly Game of KT” by Ypsilanti’s (Michigan) own 14KT. The feel of this instrumental track is conveyed beautifully in this video. Director Andy Madeleine and 14KT collaborate to take the viewer on a scrapbook tour of snapshots of 14KT’s life. By the end of the journey, you cannot help but feel that it is a wonderful life. Enjoy.
The Best of Frank Ocean Collection (Mixtape)
R&B vocalist Frank Ocean has kept his grind low, slow, and steady so far…and still, his reputation precedes him! Well, the time for this son of New Orleans to debut in full-length is approaching. In the meantime, we have this offering to hold us over. “The Best of Frank Collection†is a compilation of 24 tracks that includes music released by Frank Ocean himself, unreleased songs that surfaced online (some old, some more current), and four recordings of live performances that will likely be on his forthcoming debut album. Check the tracklisting below….

The Flaming Lips feat. Erykah Badu – ‘The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face’ (Video) [NSFW]
Saw a bunch of people on twitter talking about this video for The Flaming Lips & Erykah Badu remake of the Roberta Flack classic ‘The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face’. This video is definitely not safe for work as Erykah Badu’s sister Nayrock gets bucky nekkid in this this visually erotic yet odd artistic clip. I’m still not sure what to make of the video portrait although I do kinda dig the song. Check out the video but just a reminder that this is definitely NSFW!
Cocaine 80s – “Chain Glow” feat. Nas
Cocaine 80s has been been hitting us with more ‘no look passes’ than Lebron James in the past few days with the release of “Queen To Be”, “This Can’t Be A Crime”, & “Take My Keys” all in the last few days. I’d bet no one saw this one coming at all as Nas links up with NO I.D.’s musical clan for this new “Chain Glow” jawn. Common is the only rapper in the group Cocaine 80s so this is truly a special guest appearance & ‘no look pass’ to the fans from the Cocaine 80s team.

Cocaine 80s – “This Can’t Be A Crime” | “Take My Keys”
Producer NO I.D.’s group Cocaine 80s featuring James Fauntleroy on the vocals is back with two more joints they just released following the “Queen To Be” record they just dropped a few days ago. Check out two more with “This Can’t Be A Crime” & “Take My Keys” below. Interesting choice of artwork…..

R&B: Jhene’ Aiko – “2 Seconds”
After blowing up independently before being signed by producer & label exec NO I.D. to Def Jam, Jhene’ Aiko is poised to release her debut album “Souled Out” very soon lead by her upcoming single “3:16”. She teases her growing fanbase with this unfinished joint produced by Kevin Roosevelt called “2 Seconds” & it sounds like’s it’s shaping up rather nicely. I usually don’t post unfinished songs, but this one is a gem & most of you wouldn’t care or even notice the difference. It sounds THAT good. I’m sure in ‘2 seconds’ she’ll release the final version or her official single first….
