Lorde – “Royals” (Weeknd Remix)
The first time I heard this song I played it back like a hundred times. This joint is gangsta! This is joint is extremely dope to me musically & lyrically. The Weeknd has a mix of New Zealand songstress Lorde’s track “Royals” with the shots and eagle screeches in there over a nice beat. Don’t know where the original mixing ends and The Weeknd’s remixing begins, but who cares. Press play and rock with this.
Hiatus Kaiyote – “Nakamarra” feat. Q-Tip
Already a worthy track, putting Australian group Hiatus Kaiyote on the map last year, Q-Tip (of A Tribe Called Quest fame) drops lyrics on an alternate version of the cut. Tip doing his “People’s Instinctive Travels” throwback flow on this one is nice. Relax to this.

Alternative: Thundercat – “Lotus and the Jondy”
Recorded in Adrian Younge’s studio, Los Angeles (California, USA) bassist/songwriter/vocalist Stephen Bruner aka Thundercat takes us plenty of places on this track “Lotus & The Jondy.” There is structure to this single – in that it has a beginning and end, instrumentation and vocals… But the flow is very fluid. Organic to say the least… with Thundercat’s chanting lyrically throughout and drummer Thomas Pridgen going off in the latter half. Check out this auditory experiment from the album “Apocalypse†(due out On July 9, 2013).
R&B/Soul: Eric Lau – “Where To Go Now” feat. Tawiah
I’ve become a fan of DJ & producer Eric Lau’s work over the past several years after initially discovering his music. Whenever he drops something new I know without fail I can ALWAYS expect quality work. This new joint featuring the talented UK based soul singer Tawiah called “Where To Go Now” is the second single from his upcoming project “One Of Many” due June 17th. His equally as hot first single “Everytime” we had posted just a few weeks back in case you missed it. London-based singer Tawiah has been releasing some great music on her own that we’ve posted previously so discovering this new collaboration with Eric Lau was a no-brainer that the end result would be nothing short of special. I’m sure this is just “One Of Many” of the great musical pieces Tawiah & Eric Lau have coming our way. For now go ahead get cop the FREE download of the new single below.

Janelle Monáe – “Q.U.E.E.N.†feat. Erykah Badu (Video)
The beautiful Janelle Monáe & Erykah Badu are two women in the music industry I respect for always exhibiting a higher level of creativity & quality within their art & music. I was excited about their collaboration appropriately titled “Q.U.E.E.N.” that we posted about a week ago but now fans are being blessed with a brand new video for the new single directed by Alan Ferguson. Be on the lookout for Janelle Monáe’s upcoming album “The Electric Lady” this year! Yeah…. the booty don’t lie

R&B/Alternative: Thundercat – “Heartbreaks & Setbacks”
Give a listen to the first single from the bassist Thundercat (born Stephen Bruner) – “Heartbreaks & Setbacks” – off his forthcoming album “Apocalypse” (due out On July 9, 2013). Warning: HIGH-energy voltage on the track!
Alternative: YUNA – “Let Love Come Through” feat. Kyle
Malaysian-born synth singer YUNA is releasing her “Sixth Street” EP on May 7, 2013. This is a track off it – “Let Love Come Through” featuring rhymes from Kyle.
“Sixth Street” is probably a new chapter for me. All of the songs were written in my apartment where I’m most comfortable, and at that point I understood who I was and knew what I was feeling about life.

Alternative: My Midnight Heart – “Solace” (B! Refix)
Puerto Rican/American songwriter Angélica Allen has been compared to the likes of Kate Bush and Bjork; and the group she helped start – My Midnight Heart – continues to make moves that put its and her career on par with such greats of alternative pop culture. Latest example of a big marketing move: The “Solace” remix contest. It is drumming up a participant fan base of producers (who have fans of their own) whose appetites will be whet for the first official release from My Midnight Heart, a forthcoming four-track EP entitled “Chest of Hearts.” The winning remix contest submission earns its producer $2,000 and a Converse Rubber Tracks feature. That’s some motivation right there!
This “Solace” remix contest submission is from Oakland producer B! I kinda like it. I think you will, too. Catch other submissions at mymidnightheart.com. Learn more about My Midnight Heart at the group’s Facebook page www.facebook.com/MyMidnightHeart.

Janelle Monáe – “Q.U.E.E.N.” feat. Erykah Badu
Atlanta based shining star Janelle Monáe is gearing up to release her new project “The Electric Lady” this year. The first new single called ‘Q.U.E.E.N.’ couldn’t have been a more appropriate title with her collaborating with another music ‘Queen’ in Erykah Badu. Gotta love when two beautiful, talented, & respected women in this music thing sit down to collaborate together..

R&B/Alternative: Phil Beaudreau – “Raid (Enemy)”
This is a personal track for Phil Beaudreau, moved to put “Raid (Enemy)” when he heard about the recent Boston Marathon tragedy. This is another instance in which deep suffering yields meaningful art. Hell of a tradeoff. Play the track. Be strong Beantown.
“I was listening to this Madlib track that D Park told me about when I heard the news about the explosions at the finish line of the Boston Marathon. That’s my home that was attacked… I feel like it was personal. This one is for my Bostonians.”
– Phil Beaudreau
R&B/Alternative: Tawiah – “FACes” (Prod. By Jodi Milliner)
From the upcoming “FREEdom Drop” project, due out April 12, 2013, London-based singer Tawiah blesses the people with “FACes” (produced by Jodi Milliner). The project will be a FREE download; part of International Day for Street Children. This song right here sounds very special. Check it out below….
R&B/Alternative: The Supremes – “Stop! In The Name Of Love” (Yoroku Saki Remix)
Okay, so take the Supreme’s joint and slow it down to a moan. Then simplify and air out the track with synth and chimes. That’ll work.
‘Here’s a gift from me to you! Enjoy!’ – Yoroku Saki
So… what do you think? Not much on Saki on the interwebs yet. Peeped the Facebook page About section and got ‘I manipulate air particles.’ Oookay. Interesting sounds on his ‘Cloud though.

R&B: Miguel – Kaleidoscope Dream Experience Vol. 1 (Video)
Without a doubt Miguel’s Grammy awarding winning album “Kaleidoscope Dream” was one of the best projects to come out in the last year fueled largely in part by his mega hit single “Adorn”. Now as Miguel begins his tour for the album he wants his fans to experience the ride with him in these new videos he’ll be releasing as he goes from city to city. Dope to see he started things out here in Atlanta at the historic Fox Theater. Check out vol. 1 of the mini-documentary above….

Joshua Worden – “The Line” (feat. blctxt) (Video)
This track comes to use from singer/producer Josh Worden via our homie blctxt. Josh has a very unique sound and approach to music. I’m not sure what genre I’d categorize this song as but I’m feeling it. Check out the video and dowload the track HERE.
Phil Beaudreau – “This Is Why” feat. Dawuan Parker
I haven’t heard not one subpar record from newcomer Phil Beaudreau upon discovering his music within the past year. His unique vocals coupled with the production talent of producer Dawuan Parker is a winning combination for him. Without question “This Is Why” I believe this kid could make an even larger impact in the music industry if he wants to & if the stars align properly.
Dawn Richard – “86” (Video)
Dawn Richard is criminally slept-on & many people around the world need to wake the hell up. I’ve been singing the praises of this talented woman for a while now. This “86” record that we posted back in October has been in my personal rotation of hot joints in my itunes playlists that I often keep on repeat. When I first heard it I played it back about 10 times in a row. Clearly I was in need of some more joints of that quality. After a few delays her new album “GoldenHeart” , which features this very dope “86” joint just dropped . For now just check out another one of Dawn’s very creative videos for the new single go cop the album. Simply Awesome.

R&B/Alternative: Willow Smith – “Sugar & Spice”
When I saw a 1 or 2 people tweet about Willow Smith’s new song “Sugar & Spice” I immediately dismissed it thinking it was some bubble gum pop song from the 12-year-old daughter of Will & Jada. When I finally got around to hearing it I was deeply surprised for a variety of reasons. For one I realized the music she chose as her backdrop comes from one of my favorite Radiohead songs off of their 2011 “King Of Limbs” album called “Codex”. The second thing that was glaringly apparent was the writing, lyrics, & vocal arrangement was perfect & it felt deeply personal. The third thing running through my mind had me asking myself if this little 12-year-old girl is crying out for help. Deep.
R&B/Alternative: Frank Ocean – “Wiseman”
Frank Ocean created this song “Wiseman” specifically for the “Django Unchained” film that comes out tomorrow starring Jamie Foxx. Unfortunately director Quentin Tarantino says he was unable to find an adequate scene for the song to fit in the film so it was excluded. Frank Ocean appeared to express no hard feelings via his tumblr page as he mentioned that he thought the film was still “ill” without his song. He also has the words to the song posted on his tumblr page too if y’all want to peep it here. It’s a shame because the song sounds & feels very good. Deeply great emotional song where a large part of the beauty is in the songwriting.
