Food: Homegrown Tomatoes Taste Better (Video)
My Dad was a sharecropper through late his preteen years before his family moved to Tuskegee. The farmer in him meant we would have a pretty big garden every year, overflowing with tomatoes. They were not heirloom tomatoes like these, but those ‘maters did taste different. Guess that is no surprise. Homegrown vs. storebought, you know… It’s just that this video gives a ‘fullness’ to the argument that I cosign. Check it out.
Ever wonder why homegrown tomatoes taste so much better than ones you buy in a store? Renowned seed saver and farmer John Coykendall hits it out of the park with this explanation – and shows how heirloom veggies, like tomatoes, link us to our ancestors!

Franchesca Ramsey Declares That It Is Time For These Black Female Stereotypes To Die (Video)
Hahaa! This reminded me of the ‘Black Acting School’ part of Robert Townsend’s “Hollywood Shuffle” (with White ‘instructors’ insisting that ‘students’ act ‘Blacker’… like ‘jive turkey mothaf**ckas’). Sharp commentary in that, too. Watch Franchesca’s commentary on long-standing Black Female stereotypes in media.
Ever notice how black women in media tend to looped into a few basic stereotypes? Like, get portrayed as the sassy friend who has an instant comeback for everything, or the over-sexualized woman who wants it all the time, or the helpful Black maid. Well, these stereotypes don’t come from nowhere. And on this Season 3 throwback episode of MTV Decoded, Franchesca “Chescaleigh” Ramsey shows where they come from and explains why they need to be buried good and deep.

Texas Congressman Gives Perfect Answer To ‘Take A Knee’ Question (Video)
Seems like this was a ‘take the bait’ question, a political landmine, more so than an actual question to gain clarity or understanding of the Representative’s view on the issue of #TakeAKnee
But like an OG, Representative Beto O’Rourke gave a perfect answer. Any remaining opponent to the peaceful protest, after hearing this argument, is choosing NOT to understand. The issue was made plain and clear here. Watch.

Speaking On The State Of Hip-Hop, Darryl ‘DMC’ McDaniels Raw & Uncensored (Video)
Okay. Run DMC’s Darryl McDaniels just went the hell off! Rightfully so. Hip-Hop is definitely different today, but we had our bullsh!t going on back then, too. I do agree, wholeheartedly, that whatever was wrong then or now… was WRONG! Nonsense, violence, not a good policy (word to Heavy D and RIP).
Hip-Hop is our Nation, our Community and Culture. We ought to act accordingly. Listen to DMC.

DJ Bobbito Garcia Speaks On Rocking Analog Vs. Digital From Back In The Day To Now (Video)
When DJs speak on how it used to be, as opposed to what it is today, in whatever way, don’t you expect them to speak from experience; to talk about what they know? Well, suffice it to say, Bobbito Garcia was there!

Comedian Chelsea Handler Focuses On Political Activism (Video)
Interesting. Comedians, esp. when there’s an “easy target” in the White House, usually make fun of political folly. And Chelsea did that. But she is really moving into the ‘woke’ lane to ride that for a long while… at least until President Trump and his ilk are out.
Comedian-turned-activist Chelsea Handler shares the moment she recognized her White privilege and dishes on exactly how she wants to see Donald J. Trump humiliated.

Black Man Falsely Convicted Now Helps Others Wrongfully Convicted (Video)
Jarrett Adams could have gone home and gone quiet after his exoneration, but he chose to turn that page of his life in a different way… going to work for The Innocence Project to get other wrongful convictions overturned. Incredible NBC Nightly News story on Attorney Adams. Salute to the brother!
Lester Holt interviews Jarrett Adams, who was wrongfully convicted of sexual assault when he was just 17 and — as an attorney — is now helping others who are in similar positions as he used to be.

Jalen Rose & Jadakiss Talk About Artists’ Taking A Stand And Defending Their Music (Video)
Jada spoke on it: “All money isn’t good money.” It was good that Hip-Hop let EA Sports know that we stand with Kaep. Rappers can take a knee and take a stand, esp. when it comes to ‘mistaken’ censorship of their music.
(Hard to believe they called removing Kaep’s mentions in song lyrics a mistake.)
Jadakiss joins Jalen Rose to talk about the fact that Colin Kaepernick’s name was edited out of a verse in Madden 19 from a Big Sean song, and how the former San Francisco 49ers QB’s name was added back in after Big Sean’s complaints.

This ‘Dr. Frankenstein’ Mechanic Salvages Tesla Cars Doomed To Go To The Scrapheap (Video)
Hmm. A great example of how a craft or hobby can be expressed in the form of activism. We might more readily think of print, TV, or music content creators as activists before a Tesla fix-it guy. But peep. Rich has a mission and a message; putting both out there at great risk. Watch.
Rich is a car enthusiast whose passion is to find wrecked Teslas, bring them back to life, and then share his repair adventures on his YouTube channel Rich Rebuilds.
When he found out that Tesla would not service or support his salvaged cars, he took it upon himself to scour the internet and harvest working parts from several busted Teslas. He Frankensteined them together until his creations were fully operational, at a fraction of what it would cost to buy a new or certified pre-owned Tesla.
Motherboard travels to Massachusetts to meet with the rogue mechanic leading a grassroots movement of DIY fixers who are taking back the right to repair the things they own.

Why “40 Acres And A Mule” Is No Longer Enough Reparations For Black Americans (Video)
Word on the street, dirt road… hell, everywhere… is that that 40 acres and a mule promised to Black folks in the United States… IS. NOT. COMING. And even if it was, it would NOT be enough to ‘catch us up’ and make things fair & square for how far slavery, Jim Crow, and follow-on disenfranchisement has set people of color (esp. Black people in America) back. The ‘why’ behind this is skillfully “Decoded” above in this throwback episode.
Out of 536 billionaires in the USA, only 3 are Black. Why the stark racial divide? Well, it’s complicated, but it turns out our history of racism has a lot to do with it. From segregated schools that receive less funding in property taxes, to the history of redlining Black homeowners, to the long history of slavery, oppression, and segregation, White families were accumulating wealth. That “old money” has provided the capital for the modern-day billionaires, and even average-income white families, to stay significantly ahead of Black Americans. So how can we fix the wealth divide in America?

Protesters ‘Makes Some Noise’ For Social Justice At “The Public” Library (Trailer)
Look up ‘moral dilemma’ in the dictionary. It’d probably reference something like this movie’s plotline in the definition. Hmmm… “The Public” library is a good place to find a good dictionary… and shelter from deadly cold winter weather. Watch the trailer above.
In The Public, an unusually bitter Arctic blast has made its way to downtown Cincinnati and the front doors of the public library where the action of the film takes place. The story revolves around the library patrons, many of whom are homeless, mentally ill and marginalized, as well as an exhausted and overwhelmed staff of librarians who often build emotional connections and a sense of obligation to care for those regular patrons. At odds with library officials over how to handle the extreme weather event, the patrons turn the building into a homeless shelter for the night by staging an “Occupy” sit in. What begins as an act of civil disobedience comes to a standoff with police and a rush-to-judgment media constantly speculating about what’s really happening. This David versus Goliath story tackles some of our nation’s most challenging issues, homelessness and mental illness and sets the drama inside one of the last bastions of democracy-in-action: your public library.
