Politics: President Donald Trump Promised To Protect The Sick And Poor, To Give Them A ‘Better Deal’… And He Is Not… At All (Video)
Donald Trump ran promising to protect the sick and the poor. He's governing in ways that will seriously harm them. pic.twitter.com/ByWiTod0Ze

Wow. Still hard to believe that we elected a U.S. President in much the same way we elected a class president in grade school – the guy that promised spaghetti and pizza for lunch and two recesses every day won… because we bought the lies. But when we did not get more pizza and play time, we lived. This VOX clip illustrates how, with Donald Trump as the ‘head of the class’ as President, many of us might suffer and DIE.
So… What folks hate about Obamacare (The Affordable Care Act) is exactly what Trumpcare (The ‘Higher Cost Care’ Act) will allow MORE of??? That’s not what ANYONE voted for, is it? IS IT?!
Just watch. It’ll make you wanna say, “I can’t…” until you realize ‘you have to’ (because the ‘Yes We Can’ guy is gone).

Ice Cube Confronts Bill Maher About His Use Of The “N” Word (Video)
That’s our word now, and you can’t have it back.
– Ice Cube
Certainly not ‘nothing’ and much ado should be made of it. Uber-Progressive, sh!t-talking talk show host who walks the talk Bill Maher opened the can and got himself into a jam loaded with n-word on a prior show. Bitter n-word use that left a BAD taste in everyone’s mouths, esp. Black people’s). Just used that word like he was one of the the n—
(Nope. Not gonna.)
But you know what? This is a teachable moment. And like an adult, Bill went to the cabinet and took his medicine. He had Michael Eric Dyson AND Ice Cube on the very next show. And they addressed that sh!t. Worked it out. No sugarcoating. Very frank, to the point, grown-folk talk about what Bill knows: It is NOT okay for him (as a White person) to invoke the n-word.
Watch and be impressed how the NWA (irony much?) articulated the matter and what was the matter to Maher and by extension to the millions of people who follow his lead (including many who might be getting a bit too comfortable using the n-word). Teachable moment…
Ishawna Speaks On Her Career, “Equal Rights” And More (Video)
Fair warning: You are going to fall for Ishawna’s voice almost as fast as her fineness. Interesting talk about her being where from where so many other Dancehall greats are from, her coming up and her uniqueness in the genre. Of course, Sway and Ishawna had to get into all the dirty and the ‘dutty’ in her hit “Equal Rights” (hot). All kinds of great convo. Watch!
(Oh, Ishawna! The one Jah Prince interviewed back in the day. She mighty fine and stayed on the grind. That’s maaahd!

Technology/Human Interest: Bringing Solar Energy To A Remote Himalayan Town (Video)
Great point dude made on the ride in. Our natural reaction when we walk into a dark room is to reach for a light switch, but the folks they are going to see have likely never done that. Never even had that capability. But they soon will, thanks to this team of volunteers and their openness to being powered by solar panels.
Volunteers pack sustainable solar energy parts toward the remote Himalayan town of Lingshed.

There’s a blessing and a lesson to appreciate in this docu-short.

Food: South L.A.’s African-American Taco Movement (Video)
Okay, you know Memphis for the barbecue and Philly for the cheesesteak… Basically, there are a lot of cities with food that reps. Check out a new food movement: South Los Angeles’ African American Tacos. Just a taste of Food Grails, a new First We Feast travel series.
Welcome to Food Grails, a new First We Feast travel series hosted by Miss Info. As a music journalist, she’s travelled the world and seen the power of artists who rep for their hometown sound. Now, she wants to discover how foods define a city’s flavor—from Atlanta’s lemon-pepper wings, to NYC’s beef patties. These are America’s food grails.
– First We Feast
Learned some math: Profit from slanging tacos > profit from selling weed (wow, plus weed heads probably come through with ‘the munchies’ yo). Serious business here. Watch.

Power To The People: Most Of This Texas Town’s Energy Comes From Wind And Solar (Video)
How about that! A Conservative “red” town, in the “red” state of Texas, is walking the renewable energy talk for real! Did the city’s Mayor Dale Ross say that Georgetown was “90% renewable” right now? Like not in talks or planning to be, but currently 90% renewable???
In From the Ashes, Dale Ross, the Mayor of Georgetown, TX, talks about his city’s commitment to a renewable energy future— as that’s what’s best for his residents.

Technology: Bill Gates Is Backing Cranfield University’s Waterless Toilet Concept (Video)
The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation is going hard for ‘the toilet of the future’… still. We posted on a prototype the Foundation backed in 2012 on here.
And now this…
In developing countries, access to public utilities like running water and sewer systems are often not available. The lack of those resources leads to unsanitary conditions that can put people’s lives at risk. Researchers at Cranfield University hope to put an end to that with the waterless Nano Membrane Toilet. The design has so much potential to change lives that it’s been backed by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

Karyn Parsons Talks A Bit About Her Sweet Blackberry Foundation, Being Close To ‘The Fresh Prince’ & Cast And Her Life Since Being ‘Hilary Banks’ (Video)
Maaaan, Karyn Parsons was and IS that kind of fine that makes you wanna cuss out loud and call a friend over to celebrate her hotness with you. But you don’t cuss, you don’t call out… You stay put and stare, engaged, not even sure how you’d react if she gave you convo; let alone “a shot.” Yes, gentlemen and ladies, you would so wanna ‘cuff’ Karyn. Even now that cuffing season is over. Even more so after you watch this interview.
You’ll remember today’s guest from her role as Hilary Banks from the popular NBC sitcom, “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.†Today, actress and writer Karyn Parsons is the founder and president of Sweet Blackberry, a foundation that aims to teach children stories of African American achievement. Parsons stopped by ‘Sway in the Morning’ to tell us all about her Sweet Blackberry initiative, being a mom, and her acting career.
– Sway’s Universe
Oh, sooo Karyn is already married with children and making moves to benefit all our children. Wow, bittersweet. Know what though: She is so wonderful and worthwhile, you gotta still wish her well. Great interview. Worth the watch!

Cover Story: CEOs Elon Musk And Bob Iger Quit The President’s Advisory Councils After Trump Dumped The Paris Accord (Video)
Remember the shocking revelation that our very own ‘real life Tony Stark’ – Elon Musk – would be advising Donald Trump in the White House? We posted on that on here.
When I saw the news that Trump dumped on Musk’s advice, and pulled out of the Paris Accord, I found myself wondering, borrowing a lyric from 4-IZE, “How’d That Work Out?”
Well, Tesla CEO Musk said he’d leave the White House advisory councils on which he serves if President Trump withdrew from the Paris climate agreement. Well, Trump withdrew.
And Musk left.
So…, “How’d That Work Out?” It didn’t.
In the aftermath of withdrawing the U.S. from the Paris Accord, Trump really sees no downside. He had his reasons, and he is not looking to impress folks, at all, including advisors like Musk or Robert Iger (Disney CEO, who also just resigned from his advisory role).
So, to review, the President has just lost the support of ‘real life Tony Stark’ and the CEO of the ‘Universe’ in which movie ‘Tony Stark’ lives… Plus taking the most powerful nation on the planet off the nations-try-to-save-the-world climate change team. Kinda eff’d in the sci-fi world AND real world.
Yup.

Keith Olbermann With A Way To Corner President Trump In The Oval Office: Let’s Go To The Tapes (Video)
Damn. Keith highlights a good point on this episode of ‘The Resistance.’ If the tape or tapes that can clear President Trump of former FBI Director James Comey exist, investigators should demand them. And they better prove Trump’s innocence of EVERY allegation; because if he is proven guilty of even one Comey accusation in the recordings… he’s OUT of the White House.
By casually raising the idea he’s got tapes, Donald Trump has found new trouble.
– GQ
Plus, by now, Trump cannot simply claim the tweet about the tapes was in ‘error’ nor can he deny their existence. Well, he can. Because, you know, The Donald. But he should not be allowed to do that.

Okay, SNL is still the champ of President Trump roasting, but yoooo… this Super Deluxe video starring former Mexican President Vicente Fox though. Bahahaaaaa!

Chris Brown – “Die Young” feat. Nas
Put a hand up, make a fist. Now keep it there and hold up two fingers for peace.
Yes, indeed. We are still getting powerful music to inspire us to fight against violence… to fight for life… to keep the fallen in our hearts & minds and keep hope alive! Let no more “Die Young.” Solid work from two of the best: Chris Brown and the G.O.D.M.C. Nas.

Maya Angelou: ‘And Still I Rise’ (Trailer)
Miss Calypso? Really?! Wow…Had no idea. And it’s a good bet there will be much more stuff many of us did not know about the late great Dr. Maya Angelou in the forthcoming “And Still I Rise” feature. Watch the trailer above.
Dr. Maya Angelou’s legendary writings including I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, Phenomenal Woman and On the Pulse of Morning are merely a few examples of how words can truly change the world. Although she is most well-noted for her poetry, Maya Angelou and Still I Rise celebrates her multiple talents including singing, dancing, filmmaking, academia and civil rights activism, how she inspired generations, pushed boundaries and never ceased in her long fight for freedom for all. Bob Hercules and Rita Coburn Whack’s extraordinary film seamlessly weaves the key messages of her poetry into the narrative of her life with rare archival footage, interviews and of course, recitals of her original works. Powerful, proud and prolific, Angelou’s story is one of true courage and creativity of a woman who fought for her beliefs and lived life to the fullest.

Politics: Follow the Money… It May Well Connect Russia To President Trump
Keith Olbermann says, “Follow the money,” a LOT in this episode of “The Resistance”… and it’s okay, because it has apparently ben said by EVERYONE except who we think (e.g. credit) as the person who actually said it first. To the point Olbermann is trying to make above, folks who want to get to the bottom of what Trump is up to might do well to heed those words. Here’s Olbermann’s latest rant and his reasoned path to his conclusion about probable Russian collusion (with Trump’s campaign on his Presidential win).

Saving An Ancient Language Using Pop Music (Video)
Something very Hip-Hop about this story. We (Hip-Hop Nation, Black people, all people) know about griots who tell stories they were told, preserving history through generations, how slaves communicated stories (and plans) through song, and how Hip-Hop built on those traditions, speaking to and through the Culture… Well, Renata is doing that at the essence; not just speaking stories, but attempting to save the mode of speech (her language) itself using songs.
Renata Flores is a 16-year-old singer from Peru who is using her voice to save an ancient language. Though Quechua is the second-most spoken language in Peru, native speakers have suffered from discrimination and social stigma for generations, and today, many young people aren’t learning the language at all. But with her powerful vocals to covers of pop songs by Michael Jackson and Alicia Keys in her native tongue, Flores is sparking a renewed celebration of Quechuan language and culture.

Awake, A Dream From Standing Rock (Extended Trailer)
The fight is still on, just not on your TV any more. Like most relevant revolutions… not televised. So what are the Sioux still beefing about over there? Pipelines for certain. But “Awake” goes deeper; telling the story of Native-led defiance that forever changed the fight for clean water, the environment and the future of the planet. You know, ‘trivial’ pursuits like that.
Guess this is not worth the mainstream (or those who say they are not mainstream) media’s air time, huh? Good thing for this documentary.
Rodney King (Netflix Trailer)
Spike Lee with another Joint. Can you believe it has been 25 years since the uprising over the “Rodney King” verdict (that exonerated the LAPD cops that beat the F**K out of him)? Given recent events, you likely think:Â ‘Damn. It has been 25 years since we thought the police beatdowns should have been over… and they STILL aren’t over.’ Watch this trailer and get ready for another hot-blooded summer, courtesy of Netflix and Spike Lee.
His story shook the world and lit LA on fire. Now it comes to life in a powerful one-man show.
Compelling presentation & performance by Roger Guenveur Smith.
The Assassination Of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr (Documentary)
“Martin Luther King, Jr. was an American clergyman, activist, and prominent leader of the African-American civil rights movement and Nobel Peace Prize laureate who became known for his advancement of civil rights by using civil disobedience. He was assassinated at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee on April 4, 1968, at the age of 39. King was rushed to St. Joseph’s Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 7:05PM that evening. The King family and others believe that the assassination was carried out by a conspiracy involving the US government, as alleged by Loyd Jowers in 1993, and that James Earl Ray was a scapegoat. In a 1999 civil trial that did not name the US government as a defendant and sought $100 from Jowers, with both the family and Jowers cooperating together and the only presenting parties, the jury ruled against Jowers and Unidentified Conspirators”
