Ryan Coogler Interviews J. Cole For #MLKNow (Video)

Above: Ryan Coogler (Director of “Creed” and “Fruitvale Station”) with a deeper than in-depth interview with J. Cole. You can tell it was more a frank discussion than an interview though; Coogler admitting to this being his first time as an interviewer and Cole admitting to a gang of things: the tragic death of Oscar Grant as told in “Fruitvale Station” makes him cry every time… fear-frustration-sadness and artistic motivations that came from subsequent incidents of police brutality… feelings on Black-on-Black crime… life as a married man (stunned the crowd, and toned down the ladies’ screams…for the time being).

Watch the whole 20 minutes. Very appropriate conversation in the wake of the Martin Luther King, Jr. commemoration. Engaging, enlightening and empowering! The web was on fire due to news of Cole’s nuptials being dropped like a bomb in this clip, but the most powerful moment was when the brothers were exchanging thank-yous to end the interview.

Stop thanking me… We a part of the same body. Bruh, my hand don’t wake up and thank the other hand.
Ryan Coogler

Wow… feel that chill? That surge of pride? That’s #MLKNow and hopefully motivation to take strides.

Journey Home (Trailer)

An injustice often makes for a good movie storyboard; unfortunate that the situation has to be so tragic in this case. Did you see ‘Fruitvale Station’ (the tragic story of Oscar Grant’s shooting)? This is going to be another incredibly painful why-dammit-whyyyy experience like that. Should be a powerful film to watch. Inspired by the tragic shooting death of Trayvon Martin.

Killer Mike – ‘Burn’ (Video)

Perfect timing for Killa Kill from Adamsville to drop this video in the midst of Oscar Grant’s murderer being released earlier from prision….Killer Mike’s Pledge III is available now…

Self Scientific feat. Krondon & Freddie Gibbs – ‘Peaceful’ (Video)

“Composed of a strong partnership between the lyrically prolific Chace Infinite and Grammy award winning producer, DJ Khalil, Self Scientific definitely makes a strong statement and gets Freddie Gibbs to add some southern-fried no-pork spit to the track along with L.A. veteran and Strong Arm Steady hook-minister, Krondon. The video is directed by The ICU and explores the historic scene of the 1992 L.A. riot that rocked South Central and includes various footage from the incredibly unjust lynching of Oscar Grant by the Oakland BART police.” -BlowhiphopTV

Creed (Trailer)

Damn. I… DAMN! This is a great idea. All that is left is the delivery. What if we took the guttural energy of the “Rocky” franchise, put it in a movie, but not necessarily a sequel? How about a movie about a son – not Rocky Balboa’s, but Apollo Creed’s son – that we never knew about? That kid, could come up HARD, like his dad. Gravitating toward boxing, as a metaphor for a life rife with fights, this kid could be brash and indignant – just like his dad – but not like his dad. He doesn’t even have to like his dad; because he never knew his dad.

But he knew of his dad’s greatness… and his dad’s great in-ring nemesis and out-of-ring friend… the guy his dad trained to go next level [against Clubber Lang]… the guy who seconded in his corner the night his dad DIED in the ring…

The guy who would ultimately coach him to greatness. WOOOOO! Balboa teams with a Creed (played by Michael B. Jordan) again. Give him the damn red, white and blue shorts. LET’S GO!!!

Oh wait, it doesn’t come out until this Fall (November 25, 2015). In the meantime, watch this trailer for “Creed” – from the makers of [Jordan’s breakout biopic] “Fruitvale Station.” Please, Hollywood, PLEASE get this right.

BIGREC – “BLSM” (Respect To J. Cole)

People getting fed up, and it HURTS, when it seems that our lives DON’T matter…

New music from the man making sure Real Hip-Hop Is Back and here to stay! The realest part: BIGREC talking to his little boy about dealing with the cops. And not that “policeman is your friend” mini-speech that TV parents (read: White parents) give their kids. This is real life; too real.

Rest In Peace to the myriad of Black Men lost in similar fashion: #RIPWalterScott #RIPEricGarner #TrayvonMartin #RIPMichaelBrown #RIPAmadouDiallo #RIPTroyDavis #RIPOscarGrant #RIPSeanBell #RIPEmmettTill (…and the list goes on).
BIGREC

Unfortunately, there’s nothing new for Black folk here but the song. That said, like everything BIGREC’s been dropping, this “BLSM” (Black Lives Still Matter) work will hit you in the chest – dead center. And respect to J. Cole, true indeed. He has spoken on occasion on situations, too. FREE download below.
