DJ Jah Prince x Face Off Fridays (Dancehall)

This is the dancehall and reggae selections that were mixed by DJ Jah Prince and physical cds passed out to the patrons of the now 7-year monthly club party in Atlanta called ‘Face Off’. This mix features new music from Capleton, Tommy Lee, Demarco, Chino McGregor and a few cuts from the MixPak Kling Klang Riddim. The hip hop selections that compliment this were mixed by DJ Rasta Root and can be heard at: http://classicexample.podomatic.com

But mostly, he talked… about life (and boxing, of course… once Whoo Kid brought up 50 Cent getting into the fight game). Real talk for real. Good clip.

Alternative/Soul: Lianne La Havas – “Is Your Love Big Enough?” (Video)

Caught wind of the buzz on this single just doing my thing online. A Facebook friend inboxed me… hours later I got an email… and saw a Facebook wall post for “Is Your Love Big Enough?” Figured I better get on the job and check it out. The song’s performer, alternative folk and soul singer/songwriter/instrumentalist Lianne La Havas, was born and raised in London, England, the daughter of a Jamaican mother and Greek father. Recently, “Is Your Love Big Enough?” (La Havas’ debut album for Warner Brothers) was released in the U.K. in July 2012; followed up with a U.S. release earlier this month. The single and full length (both carrying the same title) are available now via iTunes. Lianne La Havas is currently on tour across Europe. Saw no U.S. dates on her site yet, but who knows? For now, take a chance to get up on this talent before she makes her way to the states.

Two of Philly’s favorite sons were engaged in a good ‘ol fashioned snap session backstage during Meek Mill’s ‘Dreams & Nightmares’ tour recently. Comedian Kevin Hart took on Meek Mill & his crew as they traded jokes at the House Of Blues in Los Angeles prior to the show. Meek Mill’s debut album ‘Dreams & Nightmares’ drops October 30th. Amen!

Dope song. Intense subject matter – touching on religion and improper touching by religious leaders. Par for the course where Lupe Fiasco is concerned. Of course, the banging beat (by Mr. Inkredible) could easily hide the blunt lyrics from your conscious hearing; but once you get them, the words will touch your conscience. Whew! This joint, “Lamborghini Angels,” is slated to appear on “Food & Liquor 2: The Great American Rap Album Pt. 1,” due out September 25, 2012 (according to Henry Adaso at About.com). DC-based singer Deborah (pronounced Deb-BOR-ah) Bond declares that she channels Anita baker, Chaka Khan, and Sade for her brand of R&B-Funk-British Soul. It’s dope. Having put out two prior LPs, she (with production team/band Third Logic) is banking on the third time being the charm. Well, Deborah is doing the work. She got Nicolay to remix “Say It” – which originally appeared on the most recent full-length release, “Madam Palidrome” – and it is hot joint; sure to lengthen this album’s run. I caught wind of Genius Collective, a seven-piece crew, and their flip of an Amy Winehouse piece, “Stronger Than Me” (Yam Who? Remix) from BamaLoveSoul. The folks over there declare that this joint “will inspire ChiTown stepper’s to get their footwork right!” No word on a release date, but keep checking the Genius Collective’s Bandcamp page for good leaks.
