Classic Clips: Wu-Tang Clan Interview From 1991 (Video)

Rap artist J-Zone, who just so happens to also write for Egotripland.com, unearthed some rare footage of the Wu-Tang Clan in their early stages for an interview on a cable access television program. This reminds me that I really need to digitize all the classic interviews I’ve had with artists from my time doing my ‘Strictly Hip Hop’ video show on cable access from around the same period of ’90-’95.

Chris Brown comes back with a visual freestyle to the ‘My Last’ joint that was released with him & Big Sean. Glad to see the kid changed that hairstyle back to black & rocking the African medallions. That’s wasup! Looks like Chris Brown is getting his stuff together & is pulling it all back together again. One thing that’s hard to ignore is the number of artists who are switching lanes professionally. R&B singers like Ryan Leslie, Chris Brown, & Trey Songz starting to rap now more than sing these days. Actors want to be DJs, DJs want to be rappers, Rappers want to be singers, & singers want to be rappers. I don’t mind it all as long as they study their respective crafts & are good what they do…..

I was feeling this song the first time I heard it despite the heavy luxury big baller references in the lyrics. Maybe it was the production of the track more so than the lyrics itself that caught my attention the most. Those Justice League dudes really do some great work on the production of many of Rick Ross’s bangers. I think Philly’s Meek Mill has a very good opportunity to develop as a artist as long as he constantly elevates his bars. Looks like that whole Maybach Music machine is already there for him to get the proper push, but he must stay cognizant to keeping his lyrics sharp. Maybach Music’s ‘Self Made’ album drops May 24th just before the Memorial Day Weekend….

The staff at XXL are starting to put artists I respect on their front covers as of late. I wasn’t upset with the Freshmen 2011 cover when that dropped because I could understand what they were doing with it in terms of the balance amongst the newcomers. I wasn’t mad at the SlaughterHouse, Yelawolf, & Eminem cover & now the folks over there at XXL keeps the integrity going by placing the West Side Chicago kid on the cover for May 2011. Not mad at this one either…..

Jamie Foxx’s interviews are always hilarious to me! I’m still laughing! Recently he stopped by Jay Leno’s show to talk about performing for President Obama, Dancing With The Stars, his new animated film ‘RIO’, & other stuff that only Jamie Foxx can make seem funny as hell. After the first break Jay Leno’s band played the Village People’s ‘YMCA’ so I’m wondering if they were trying to hint that Jamie Foxx is suspect! Haahaa!

Comedy Central’s First Annual Comedy Awards aired last night & one of the highlights was seeing Pharoahe Monch & Buckshot help out Jon Cryer with his new rap single since his show ‘2 & A Half Men’ has been on indefinite hiatus with whole ‘Charlie Sheen Gone Wild’ events in the past few months. The title of this skit ‘Jon Cryer Will F*ck You Up’ seems to be a not-so subtle jab at Charlie Sheen too! Hahaa! Check out more video from the First Annual Comedy Awards under the hood…..
