Prodigy – ‘The Ellsworth Bumpy Johnson’ EP

Complex Magazine links up with Prodigy for his first musical release since returning home from the bing. Havoc doesn’t appear anywhere on production end of this joint, but I think that’s a smart move just to keep the Mobb Deep sound different for when that particular album drops.  The production is largely handled by Sid Roams although Alchemist & King Benny have a track each.

BLITZ – 4/19/11: Manifest Destiny

One year ago today fans of hip hop, jazz, & soul lost the legendary Guru of Gangstarr at the age of 43. His death at a relatively young age reminds us to never take life for granted & to always manifest destiny. Take care of your health, live your life to the fullest, & leave the world with something great. Just like Guru. These are the words that I manifest……I manifest! Jump into today’s BLITZ!

‘Black In Latin America’ Premiers Tonight On PBS (Video)

I was fortunate enough to meet Dr. Henry Louis Gates while he was speaking at my university years ago. Good to see he continues the great yet difficult discussions regarding race by putting them in the forefront. I’m very excited about this PBS piece that airs later today at 8pm called ‘Black In Latin America’. Having visited many spanish speaking countries I can recall one person, who was much darker than I am, telling me that they were Latin but denied that they were also Black. I looked at the woman like she was crazy. Immediately I thought to myself that if I had the time & resources I would love to do a piece on this very particular duality of race.

Black in Latin America is the third of a trilogy that began in 1999 with the broadcast of Professor Gates’s first series for public television, Wonders of the African World, an exploration of the relationship between Africa and the New World, a story he continued in 2004 with America Beyond the Color Line, a report on the lives of modern-day African Americans. Black In Latin America, premiering nationally Tuesdays April 19, 26 and May 3, 10, 2011 at 8 p.m. (ET) on PBS (check local listings), examines how Africa and Europe came together to create the rich cultures of Latin America and the Caribbean”

Pusha T – ‘My God’ (Video)

‘My God’ is the first video to drop from Pusha T’s mixtape ‘Fear Of God’ that dropped last month.  The video features a cameo from video vixen & model Dollicia Bryant who’s seen whipping the Lambo while Pusha rides shotgun.  The mixtape has quite a few bangers that I’ve been playing on the radio show so hopefully Pusha T doesn’t just stop here with the visuals.  Especially considering he’s gonna drop ‘Fear Of God 2’ on June 21st.

Senor Kaos – ‘Till Your Dead’ (Video)

New true school banger from the homie Senor Kaos over some ill production crafted by NYC’s DJ Eleven. The video was shot over on the 17th Street bridge in the Atlantic Station area of Atlanta & was directed by Rick Foy who reps DVID Films. ‘Till Your Dead’ appears on Senor Kaos’s ‘The Most Interesting MC In The World’ project featuring guest appearances from Boog Brown, Anthony David, 4-IZE, & Don Will of Tanya Morgan among others.

Zo! & Phonte – ‘Return Of The Mack’ feat. Tigallo The Tay God

They never should have gave you nikkaz studio equipment! Hahaaa! This song is hilarious with all the ‘Swag Swag Swag Lil B type’ ad-libs going on, but on a serious level this smoothed out remake of the Mark Morrison original song ‘Return Of The Mack’ sounds pretty good. He when they seem like they are just playing with the music it still sounds good.

Skillz – ‘Enjoying The View’ (Video)

I remember after I first listened this song that just so happens to appear on Skillz most recent album ‘The World Needs More Skillz’, I just so happened to be speaking with a record label rep who worked for another company. We briefly discussed how the singer on the song’s vocals sort of stood out for this particular track. At the time there weren’t any visuals for this particular song so we were left in the dark until now. Skillz drops new visuals for this joint & we are now able to recognize said artist, but its still clear the name of the artist is that’s giving him the assist. Maybe Skillz was embarrassed by the over emphasized facial expressions the artist gave while shooting this video…..hahaa!

Estelle – ‘Break My Heart’ feat. Rick Ross (prod by Don Cannon)

The UK singer links up with another ‘American Boy’ by way of Miami for this new track produced by DJ Don Cannon. The combination of the Bawse Rick Ross, the production, & Estelle’s vocals seem to mesh well for this joint. It’s her first single from her third album entitled ‘All Of Me’ scheduled to drop this year.

JR & PH7 – ‘Do It For You’ feat. Torae (Video)

The production duo from Cologne, Germany are back with some new tunes featuring Torae. These guys have been doing thier thing for a few years now working with some of America’s best MC’s like Elzhi, Sean Price, Oddisee, Edgar Allen Flo, Black Milk, and Skyzoo. Check out another track from their long awaited project The Update

Focus… – ‘I Know’ feat. Sha Stimuli

Not only is Focus… producing on this new joint right here, but he’s also rhyming well alongside Sha Stimuli with relative ease. Unlike most artists in the game, Focus… is always smart & meticulous enough to include a dirty & clean versions so that the DJs who can support on the radio can get right to it.

Raphael Saadiq – ‘Good Man’ (Theory Edit)

Raphael Saadiq’s standout track ‘Good Man’ from his current ‘Stone Rollin’ album was already a great soulful song with an equally as good video, but DJ Theory put a nice spin on it with this remix/Re-edit that will give more hip hop & dance oriented DJs reason to spin the song as well. Although I primarily do a hip hop show, I’m playing this on the Beatz & Lyrics Show this Saturday night! Raphael Saadiq should get a Ghostface verse & make this an official remix! This is hot!

New Music: Mac Miller – ‘People Under The Stairs’

Yo I gotta give props where props is due! Pittsburgh’s own Mac Miller is a student of hip hop & it’s becoming ever more clear to me when I see the types of beat choices he rocks over. Los Angeles based rap group ‘People Under The Stairs’ may not be as well known to mainstream rap fans, but Mac Miller is introducing them to new fans with this new track right here. P.U.T.S’s underground classic ‘San Francisco Knights’ STILL gets rotation from me on the ipod & an occasion flashback spin on my radio show. I NEVER get tired of that song. Ever. When I saw that Mac Miller decided to rock over this joint I was excited to hear it. While every new rapper is trying to rhyme over some new radio hit that just came out, Mac Miller is going back deeper in studying his lessons. It’s obvious Mac Miller is a student working hard to earn his respect & graduate in this game. He still has a long way to go, but I see you Freshman. Keep going Mr. Mac Miller. Keep Going……
