The Jay Dee Pause Remix Suite (Mixtape)

From the good folks over at BamaLoveSoul:

“Jay Dee’s Welcome 2 Detroit was released almost ten years ago to this day! BBE says the album was an inspired work that reflected Dilla’s varied influences which ranged from The Carpenters to Sergio Mendes. Now, a decade later, BamaLoveSoul releases The Pause Remix Suite: a compilation of remixes that honor Jay Dee’s influence on Hip Hop and the musical world at large. We like to think of The Remix Suite in the words of Frank (of Frank N Dank) as, “Brand New Sh!t With a Blend!” Just like Dilla’s influences when crafting Welcome 2 Detroit, this compilation presents many different perspectives to the originally gritty Pause for your listening pleasure. Enjoy!”

Rittz – ‘White Jesus’ (Video)

To be honest I’m not that familiar with Rittz’s music, but I’ve seen him around Atlanta alot before I even knew he was a rap artist. I don’t know him personally but he was one of those characters that you’d see in the crowd, but didn’t really know his angle. His distinctive style of dress & overflowing locks coming out of the skully cap made him stand out. To sum it all up he pretty much looks like a thugged out ‘White Jesus’. This is the title track from his new project with the video directed by Yelawolf. The video is creatively done & the song sounds pretty cool utilizing that double time rhyme style in which only the most skilled southern emcees can manuever with the utmost fluidity. It’s true that Jesus was Black & could walk on water, but Rittz is ‘White Jesus’….a southern emcee with flow.

Maurice Garland Chops It Up With Killer Mike & Big Boi (Video)

The homie Maurice Garland recently conducted an interview with Killer Mike & Big Boi in a recent video. If you aren’t familiar with Maurice Garland outside of his literary work, in person he would always be a quiet & reserved individual so seeing him in come alive hosting gigs & on camera for interviews may be shocking to some. Hahaa! Big up Maurice

RAPPER BIG POOH – FAT BOY FRESH VOL. I (MIXTAPE)

Guest Column: ‘Face It. Hip Hop Is Grown’ by Kool Kila

Face It. Hip-Hop Is Grown.

Face it. Hip-hop is grown. Hip-hop has BEEN grown. And rap music is a full-fledged genre now. You can see hip-hop’s influence everywhere, fashion, movies, food, toys, etc. with both young artists and veterans alike. Grandparents can recite Run DMC, T.I., Public Enemy and Snoop Dogg. A few select radio stations across the country now play classic rap songs lightly in their rotation. XM/Sirius satellite radio has a channel dedicated to “old school.” And artists like Doug E. Fresh, Slick Rick, Whodini, Sugarhill Gang constantly tour. As a matter of fact, Public Enemy tours abroad in Africa and Europe more than they do in the US.

The Singularity Of Ray Kurzweil: He’s Seen The Future & The Machines In Us (Video)

Tomorrow Apple will be releasing its iPad 2 & many ways I’m still in awe at just how fast technology is changing in just the course of a year. I found this video very interesting about just how far technology will take us in the future. Ray Kurzweil is an inventor & futurist who has predicted many events before they occurred & in one of his new books he talks about ‘Singularity‘. He coined the term ‘Singularity’ for which he believes by the year 2050 man & machines will be one in the same. I found this video to be pretty fascinating because with the speed in which technology is advancing I’d guess this road to ‘Singularity’ could possibly happen a decade or so sooner.

Lil B feat. Jean Grae & Phonte – ‘Base For Your Face’ (prod by 9th Wonder)

Now this joint is heat! I can’t say I’ve ever had a genuine interest in Lil B’s music prior to this joint although I understand why he appeals to HIS particular fans. There’s always going to be different lanes in the rap music industry. Some may appeal to you & some may not but I do like when artists from different worlds are able to collaborate especially when the final results turn out dope! Thank you Based God. Hahaa!
