Serge Severe – ‘No Biting Allowed’ feat. Luck One & Cool Nutz

Some Portland based hip hop sent to me that sounds pretty dope! The Northwest continues to build on their presence & rep for crafting quality hip hop. Serge Severe alongside a few patnas ‘Luck One’ & ‘Cool Nutz’ are reminding cats of one of Hip Hop’s most cardinal rules that most people seemed to have forgotten. No Biting Allowed. This is off of Serge Severe’s new project ‘Back On My Rhymes’ which is available now

Classic Clips: Pete Rock – “The Making of Soul Survivor” (Video)

To Hip Hop enthusiasts, Pete Rock is generally considered one of the top 5, if not the best Hip Hop producer of ALL TIME. His classic horns, bass lines, melodic pianos, James Brown samples, and gritty drums generated a signature sound to produce timeless joints such as “The World is Yours” and “T.R.O.Y”. I always though it was dope when artists gave glimpses into their world as they were creating material, so as a fan we can see what their creative process is and how they get down. Well this documentary gives us a look into the Chocolate Boy Wonder’s world as he was creating what I would consider a classic in “Soul Survivor”. With the likes of Ghostface, Big Pun, Mc Ehit, Nore, Sticky Fingaz, Prodigy, Inspectah Deck, Kurupt, CL Smooth, Method Man, Raekwon, Tragedy Kadafi, Cappandonna, Heavt D, O.C, Common, Large Pro, Kool G Rap, Black Thought, and Beenie Man, some would agree that this may be one of the great all time line up’s for a solo/concept album (I would throw Prince Paul’s Prince of Thieves in the there too). With PR’s navigating and directing this magnum opus of a project , no artist seemed out of place, and each track banged out as they transitioned into each other smoothly creating a great album flow. Check the the rest of history in the making after the jump!-Isreal Read the rest of this entry »

Boot Camp Clik – ‘Hate All You Want’ (Video)

I’m not mad at the idea of artists going back & releasing videos for songs that came out a while ago. It actually breathes new life into a previous project. Unlike Nice & Smooth’s video for ‘No Delayin’ that was shot with entirely new footage, this joint seems like it was shot a while ago & was recently unearthed & edited. This joint called ‘Hate All You Want’ was from the their 2006 album ‘The Last Stand’ but I have a feeling this won’t be the last video the BCC drops for us in the coming months. I used to play the ‘He Gave His Life’ track alot on my radio show from the ‘Last Stand’ album so hopefully they’ll shoot a video or unearth one for that banger too.

The Child From Biggie’s Classic ‘Ready To Die’ Album Cover Is 18

The NY Times was able to locate the kid who appeared on the Notorious B.I.G.’s classic album cover for ‘Ready To Die’. 18 year old Keithroy Yearwood said his mother was paid only $150 for the 2 hour shoot, but he just wanted people to know that it was him on the cover as he became older. He says when he turned 8 is when it began to hit him after seeing friends & family hanging posters of the album on their walls. Yearwood says he wanted people to at least know it was him on the iconic cover, but many people including family didn’t believe him. Yearwood says it was a honor to be on such an iconic album & adds that his favorite Biggie songs today are “Juicy” & “Big Poppa”.

Keon Supreme – ‘Just Cause’ (Album)

Keon Supreme is a visual hip hop artist from Claremont California who just dropped his second full-length project entitled ‘Just Cause’. I took the time to give it a listen over the weekend & thought it sounded pretty good from the concept, the storytelling, & the most importantly the music itself. The album plays out like the day in the life of an average guy with dreams & aspirations to move beyond the regular 9 to 5 to pursue his passion. The overall theme is ‘Love’ as it pertains to the love of family, friends, a girlfriend, & most importantly loving what you do. Key tracks include ‘Lobster Talk’, ‘Roll It Up’, ‘Pretty Lady’, & my favorite from this project ‘Joyride’ that I posted below, but you’ll really appreciate the concept when you listen to how the project flows from beginning to end. It’s a free album so you can download the entire project from the link provided & should you want an hard copy of the project Keon Supreme does have a pay link on his bandcamp page. Check out his EPK here

Breaking News: Wyclef Jean Shot In The Hand In Haiti

A spokesman for Wyclef Jean says the hip-hop star has been released from a hospital after being treated for a gunshot wound to his hand. According to reports, armed gunmen opened fire at Wyclef’s BMW in which Busta Rhymes, Jimmy Rosemond, & other members of his entourage were riding in. None of the other passengers in the vehicle were hit. Joe Mignon, senior program director for Jean’s Yele Foundation, says Jean was shot in the hand after 11 p.m. local time Saturday in the city of Delmas, just outside Port-au-Prince.

Wyclef was later released from the hospital around 2:45am this morning. The shooting comes on the eve of presidential elections in Haiti. Jean is supporting friend & fellow musician Michel Martelly.

Canibus Drops DJ Premier Diss Record; DJ Premier Responds (Audio/Video)

Not too long ago DJ Premier was being interviewed & was asked a simple question about the most difficult artist he ever had to work with. Primo mentioned he had a minor issue with Canibus but in the interview he didn’t diss Canibus in anyway. Canibus apparently took offense to DJ Premier’s response (which personally I thought was a respectable & noble one) & released a diss track aimed at DJ Premier. Last Friday night I was actually driving listening to DJ Premier’s radio show on Sirius XM radio when Primo responded to Canibus’s diss record not only verbally but also on the 1s & 2s. Check the video first & then listen to the audio the below as they follow the proper sequence of events……

Ne-Yo Does Benefit Concert In Nagoya, Japan (Video)

Ne-Yo did a benefit concert for Japan yesterday & is one of the first R&B artists to get things in motion over there. On my radio show last week I interviewed Nate of Boyz II Men who mentioned that they too had a benefit in the works for the Japanese people affected by the recent disasters out there. Japan is arguably a huge supporter of R&B music abroad so it’s great to see artists already working to give back. Big ups to Ne-Yo for this & also for a doing a decent job in the new movie Battle: LA I saw at the theater too…..

Flavor Flav Talks Chicken & Vodka With Davey D (Video)

While on tour with his band Public Enemy, Flavor Flav talked with Davey D about his chicken franchise, a new vodka he’s releasing & his new book that’s coming out. Chuck D’s comment at the end is kinda hilarous. Hahaa! Erykah Badu, ‘DJ Lo Down Loretta Brown’, Spinning At SXSW (Video)

She looks a little nervous but she’s just getting started with the DJ thing….A massive amount of celebrities are beginning to compete with ‘working DJs’ for gigs. As a matter of fact there were also reports at SXSW that Fonzworth Bentley was closing out a DJ set at SXSW as well. No umbrella. ella ella ella…ey
