I missed the private event here in Atlanta for Big K.R.I.T.’s album release, but it was more important to me to spend time with my family celebrating my new nephew’s birth. I’m just getting around to posting this new album from Big K.R.I.T. & many people are telling me the free album is pretty good. I’m gonna load it onto the ipod & check it out right after this post. I’ve enjoyed what leaked so far so I’m sure I’m going to enjoy the rest of it.

Ethereal – ‘No Saliva Vol. 2’ (Album)

Can’t honestly say that I’ve been that familiar with producer Ethereal up until recently when my homegirl Jayda B conducted an interview with him, but I know I’ve heard his work before. Â It’s not a secret he’s worked with new Shady records signee Yelawolf & popular Atlanta rap duo Clan Destined, but I can’t recall ever meeting the brother around Atlanta other than hearing his music. Â The Atlanta based producer has crafted some ill soundscapes not necessarily tailored for the average rap artist to rhyme over. In fact from some quick research I’ve found most of his projects appear to be instrumental compilation projects. His work is mostly comprised of that coolout, downtempo, & sometimes drum & bass vibe that I generally like to listen to on occasion but is not limited to any one direction. I was surprised to see Ethereal is also performing at the Kendrick Lamar show at Masquerade on Thursday night so I’m interested in seeing what he puts together. I’ve listed a few tracks I’m feeling but the download link to the free album project in association with Greedmont Park is below. Ethereal has a new album coming out called ‘Abstractica’ in June to be released on Yelawolf’s ‘Slumerican’ label.

Big shout out to the homie Goldi Gold who is arguably one of the most sought after illustrators in Atlanta & beyond. Goldi Gold IS one of the hardest working Graphic Illustrator/Designers in the game….period! His work has also been seen in several music videos, album covers, mixtapes, in businesses, in people’s homes, & everywhere beyond Atlanta. He’s also done the covers of our Beatz & Lyrics 2 Go Mixtapes that we record & release following the A3C festival. I’m proud to to call Goldi Gold a friend & all around good dude! Before he began focusing his interest into doing feature length films, Spike Jonze was a dope video music director for not only rock bands but he also was the mind behind the Pharcyde’s classic ‘Drop’ video. I knew the Pharcyde’s ‘Drop’ was a hot record the first time I heard it, but when the video actually dropped it became the tipping point to pushing the song & video into classic status. R&B/Soul: John West – ‘Lovely’ feat. Pusha T

One of my friends swears that I’ve seen John West perform while I was in L.A. on a visit but I can’t honestly remember. I gave her the ‘Oh ok’ acknowledgement, but I didn’t have much of a clue. I’ve seen a gazillion new artists perform in my lifetime. Apparently John West has been around for a while having been in rock bands & is now a solo artist signed to Island/Def Jam. I didn’t expect much when I came across this song in my email except for the fact that this song ‘Lovely’ was featuring Pusha T. I’m glad I checked this out because this joint is hot! John West seems like a mix between John Legend & Robin Thicke & I wouldn’t be surprised if the label was trying to push him into that ‘blue eyed soul’ lane. The positive side is John West doesn’t sound like anyone else in R&B/Soul today vocally speaking. This particular song reminds me of Kanye West’s ‘Heard Em Say’ from a musical perspective so I wonder if Yeezy had something to do with the collaboration in some way…..
