This is the second single from Jamie XX’s Gil Scott-Heron inspired remix album called ‘We Still Here’ that is now available. I’ve been feeling alot of the remixes Jamie XX has done from his Kanye joints to the most recent remix of Adele’s ‘Rolling In The Deep’. Looks like Jamie XX choose to take it a step further by releasing a video for this Gil Scott-Heron inspired project. I’ve been feeling this joint alot since I first heard it & a well done video will only increase my ipod play counts. The revolution is being televised…..

While over in the U.K. for a recent show, M.O.P. was interviewed about their first time meeting DJ Premier, Fat Joe, & Freddie Foxx aka Bumpy Knuckles for the first time. They discuss how Lil Fame studied DJ Premier heavily before actually meeting him, how Fat Joe’s brand new whip was stolen in Brooklyn, & also discussed an altercation that almost went down the first time they met Freddie Foxx. It’s always good to hear stories like these. Ran across this earlier and I zoned out reminiscing on the days when ill emcees jumped on R@B remixes and they turned out super dope. They actually rhymed about something relevant to the song and gave you a strong 8 or even a classic 16. Many may not remember Davina, as she dropped one label album on RCA in 1997, and kinda disappeared, but this was mos def a banger. Enjoy! -Isreal

The BLITZ – 3/4/11: Drinkin’ Ice-T With Ice Cubes Edition

It’s the morning BLITZ! Even Gangsta Rappers keep up with world events…..the Lethal Weapon Is the Mind Right O.G.? It’s friday & time to put this week behind us & on Ice….Ice Cubes for my Ice-T. Time to chill. I choose this photo for a variety of reasons that are merely coincidential. For one we’re one day removed from the Rodney King verdict which sparked one of the most infamous riots in the history of the U.S. & within the country in general. Both Ice Cube & Ice-T are rocking ‘Looters’ caps from the film they both starred in years ago & there was a whole lotta lootin’ going on during the riots. Ice-T & Ice Cube have both created gangsta rap music with social commentary but these days Ice-T is playing a cop on television & Ice Cube is known for making family oriented films. If you happen to be in Atlanta then you know Ice Cube is performing tomorrow night. Maybe I’m just reaching with all of these coincidences or parallels I’m trying to put together but here’s to the end of the work week. It’s time for the BLITZ! Today should be a good day…….Jump in!

Hard to believe the Rodney King verdict that caused the L.A. riots happened just 20 years ago today. For me it seems like almost yesterday. Thurz, 1/2 of of the Inglewood California rap group U-N-I , decided to deliver this at the appropriate time to remind the heads about that day in L.A. the country will never forget. I hear Fred The Godson is fairly popular up in NYC but I may need to hear more material from him to make a adequate assessment of his work. Someone may need to put together a compilation or something of his best work for me to check out eventually. In any case I know that Cookin’ Soul’s production team always does a great job on remixes & original material so when I saw this video with “Cookin Soul Remix” I knew I had to check it out & it didn’t disappoint. The kid Vado rocks pretty well over this Cookin’ Soul beat too. His presence made the song seem like a ‘Vado featuring Fred The Godson’ record. Vado may want to employ Cookin Soul’s production services for a few bangerz.

Kurupt’s ‘Streetlights’ album was one of the most slept on albums of 2010 in my opinion. There were more than enough bangers on there to rock with that I believe many people overlooked. Recently Kurupt arrived in Montreal & did an interview where he drops a few gems like his upcoming album with Pete Rock, how he got one of his nicknames from Tupac, & his thoughts on Dr. Dre’s Detox album. Later in the interview Kurupt does what he does best as a battle skilled emcee….
